NO! you're not gonna wait for the right time or opportunity because it will not come unless you make it happen. Any experience fimperson will tell you that. Picking up writing is the best start! It allows you to create something from the ground with an minimum amount of effort, in terms of material expences.

So much time and energy is wasted on preparing everything BUT the script, which is the very foundation! YOU ONLY NEED A PAPER AND A PEN, so don't waste time waiting and doing other things that are related to the project because without a script you don't have a project, you're only setting yourself up for nothing.

So many people want to get into fim business because they want to be the next Tarantino or whatever, but they are in it for all the wrong reasons, because (a) they cannot write a shit, and (b) they cannot write a shit because they want to be something and someone the're not! It's like saying I want to be Elivs but I cannot carry a tune.

All I can say is stop looking at what everyone else is doing, alright - I know it's tempting to try an pull of something you've seen before - but very few of the successful filmmakers are actually making the kind of films that they admired themselves before they got into the business.

When it comes to artistic insecurities, APPROACH FILMMAKING AS IF YOU WERE MAKING PORN. The mantra is, I'm gonna make a porno flick, I've got nothing to loose. It may turn out like shit, but it's my personal shit!

Don't make movies for others, make movies for yourself. Rip something out of yourself that you want to see materialized. Don't worry about maturing, I didn't think about maturing when I pulled off a 100-minute horror flick with my friends at the age of 14 (It may not sound like much these days but back in the old days kids weren't running around with smartphones and DV cams). By definition, a filmmaker is a child at play, someone who never matures. The day you stop being playful in your artistic endeavours is the time to call it the quits (why do you think all old filmmakers loose their juice?).

But story fragments are good, they show you where you were once upon a time and where you are now. Sometimes it's depressing reading them because it's clear you were decieving yourself, other times it's very inspiring and liberating because you feel you've written something personal.

But anyway, who am I to speak? I've lost all faith in filmmaking. It's not what it used to be. All I see are reproductions. Even if I wanted to make a fresh start, the digital technology wouldn't allow me. I'm very old school in that sense.

So for the time being I'm stuck at writing, not even that actually.I've hardly written anything but "fragments" for the last two years. It's been too much work and studying.

Oh and I don't know if this is only me, but discussing filmmaking makes me kind of depressed . Like, if I went to a filmschool I would imagine I would be very depressed because in order to be in my best creative mood, I'd need to mingle outside the pool. In fact, I usually don't want to have anything to do with other aspiring filmmakers.

Isn't that weird? I mean I like discussing movies, just not filmmaking. :-/
