Change your opinion of someone b/c of their political beliefs ...or has anyone change their opinion of you b/c of your political beliefs

So me and my cousin (whom not only do i love very much but also look up to) were talking about her political beliefs and it turns out that I'm a LOT more liberal than she is...at one point she goes you can't be serious and I go:I'm dead ass serious -_- ..she really couldn't hide her disappointment and at the end of our conversation I kinda of felt bad ...but what am I to do apologize for what I believe in—

With the election in full swing

Have you ever told someone you support Donald trump and they almost gagged

Have you ever told someone that you support Hillary Clinton and they gave you the stank face

Yes. I think they are stupid for thinking anyone in the American government actually adds up votes.

It's already paid for and over with. Everyone knows it who needs to and that's not the voters, obviously.

I've had a man who wanted to marry me agree to accept differences to only turn around and try to convert me on the sneak.... when it comes to my personal beliefs, you are a bull in a china store there is no sneaking.

I was enraged to tears. I dumped him. I pictured waking up to Rush Limbaugh every am.

Yes.

For myself, it's people whom I used to work with on the activist front. People who used to preach strength in unity to me, only to turn around years later trying to push very divisive ideologies down my throat.

Right how can you apologize for what you believe is right or wrong? And what do you do when some you love/care believe differently about what is right and wrong

Well, to be fair, it depends on what they believe in.

E.g. Someone who used to be against oppression suddenly turns around and says it's OK to oppress the oppressors because they deserve it. - my opinions of them will change forever.

Religious belief, cultural beliefs - it will only give me more insight into how they really are personality-wise, and as long as they are not using those beliefs to hurt or damage anyone, I am willing to accept them for their beliefs.

It blows my mind that ppl can't appreciate each other's opinions. Now if your extreme and I can't find a common ground then yes, I've changed my opinion on you but with most ppl we can find common ground, but I have known ppl who just couldn't stand knowing a liberal hippie like me and have chosen to exit from my life.

It always catches me off guard, yes. When you think you know someone and then they drop the N word or come out with something about men are just gonna dress like women to use our loo and assault people.

I detest most pushy people, regardless of their politics. I don't cram my beliefs down other people's throats and I appreciate the same in return.

That always sucks when it catches you off guard ...me and my cousin almost agree on EVERYTHING but we are very DIFFERENT politically...so our political discussion turned it to what is right and what is wrong ...and there was an undercurrent of judgement maybe on both parts ....

For me and my cousin its not just a matter of opinion ...its a matter of what she feels is right and wrong...she feels as though my liberal beliefs are counter intuitive of my our faith..and for her this is unacceptable

See this is the extreme, I never understand how my liberal beliefs aren't exactly what my faith dictates... I'm sorry, your having to even deal with that.

That's to be expected, in any argument of a political nature.

Only when it becomes dangerous or hurtful, otherwise I generally welcome different perspectives.

Having differing opinions on trade or fixing social security is one thing.

Being a bigot, racist, or criminally insane assclown is another.

Is this why you're afraid to roast me? 😢

one of the guys in our office is from Kansas and he said he's voting for Trump and immediately the rest of the guys started it is because he's from Kansas and brought up a whole redneck scenario into it lol

so it's natural to get judged for things like political beliefs because it's your choice and opinion, that defines you. no myself and everyone else I'd talked about this to if for Hill so haven't got the stank eye on it yet.
