Depends on the statements made before the person said "You have a unique mind"

*me discussing some idea*
*the other person going "oh that's a unique mind*..smiling, contemplative => compliment

*me discussing some idea*
*the other person rolling their eyes, dripping sarcasm in *well that's one way to look at it. i guess you have a unique mind" => diss

Unless this is my Taurus sun/Gem Moon friend..in which case I don't know which is it.

- me discussing some idea -
- The other person watching the tv at the time - "... you have a unique mind" -> I wasn't really listening, so i'll just let you keep talking so i can figure out the topic.

- me discussing the very same idea I brought up last week -
- the other person - "... you have a unique mind" -> Stop talking about this now.

this too.

but those fall under diss for me lol, hence bringing up the gem moon.

Does it make a difference if it's a guy saying it to girl, and the two have a bit of a romantic past?

No.

It can either means "you are bat sh*t crazy that's why we're not together anymore" or it can mean "although we're no longer together I always liked this about you"

As stated. Depends on the receiver and the person delivering the message.

Compliments on intellect or personality can be just as shallow as physical compliments.

Some physical compliments might actually be deeper.

It's really easy to coin some metaphor as far as compliments go.
