"Toxins."
Used by the obnoxious "health" crowd who have no idea what they're talking about

Omg, I want to smack people who use this word. It is so overused and beaten to death as a way to describe anything "bad" that they cannot explain, nor understand.

"Drink this magical juice!! It'll cleanse your body of toxins."

..no. Just no.

"Literally
Used by too many
I do not think it means what you think it means.

"Amazing"
Used by anyone who's easily impressed or drama queens.
Most of the time, no, it isn't "amaaaaazing" like one says. You're just so simple that anything impresses you.

Any combination of a celebrity couple name
Used by celeb heads/illiterate media types
We seriously are dumbing down our language with this garbage...

"I feel like..."
Used by those who fear backlash for their opinion and passive aggressive types.
This seems to have replaced "I think" in many instances. There are situations where "I feel" is appropriate, but now it's just replaced any precursor to one's opinion or statement toward a matter. It's a defensive tactic for some. "I want to voice my opinion, but I don't want to offend someone/get attacked for having such views. If I replace it with 'I feel' it softens it a bit."

Women mostly do it and it's another good example of social conditioning. Do not fear stating opinions or, God forbid," THINKING for yourself.

"On fleek"
Used by more illiterates who are just making up babble speak to describe things
This one could date me, but I don't care. SO fucking stupid. How about we make people put down their phones and pick up a fucking book. Sure, they can read shit on their phones/tablets, but you know they won't. Social media and porn would be too distracting.

What are words/terms you hear too often that make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end?

I just hope no one mention the word dope, because that would make me use it more often.
Yeah i need to find more contexts in which to use "on fleek" asap.
Me last night while watching Gotham: "The ladies' earrings are ON FLEEK this episode." *cue accompanying troll face* 😄
Lol I seriously don't understand what it means but I heard Future use it a couple of times now and it just sounds like something I want to be saying

Lol, yeah, I don't get it either. I just say it when I feel like "being down" but have no idea how to get there gracefully. 😆 I can never say things like that and be taken seriously, which is part of the fun for me. Hint: really get into the "ee" part of "fleek" and do a gesture to emphasize further. A lateral head shake, a shoulder shrug down, the raise of a hand with your thumb and index finger touching, the brief closing of your eyes...or all of them if you're feeling especially dangerous. *nods knowingly*

My boyfriend says I use "traumatizing" a lot.

Me at Red Lobster: "Being in a tank with people crowding around them must be traumatizing to the lobsters."

Me at the library: "I almost misshelved those DVDs and it was traumatizing."

Me at the pizza parlor: "Are there mushrooms on that pizza? Because that would be traumatizing!"

Me at the student lounge: "I thought she was someone else and when I saw her face and realized my mix-up, it was traumatizing."

Me on the stairwell: "I missed a step and it was traumatizing!"

Honestly, I don't see any of those scenarios as example of me misusing the word.

I hate it when people use "AF" or "as fuck". I just don't associate with people destroying the language with stupid sayings.
You mean instead of judging saying the curse word?

Personally, when in an Academic setting, I resent it when students say "N-word" instead of just saying it when explaining a point. You've mentioned it, we're all now thinking it, it's part of history, we are in a college setting in the classroom, so just say it.

Admittedly, I've been known to say "cuss," instead of actually cursing. For example, "Cuss it! I'll take are of that later."

It's like if "on fleek" survives ten years into the future, there's going to be someone down the line arguing that people should write "on fleek" correctly and act like it's life or death if its written as "OF"

I don't see the point in getting worked up.
I agree. An acronym of a slang word doesn't really matter.

"I know, right!" I am so guilty of that one sometimes.

The English language has been bastardised to hell and back
And it continues, but I try to put a stop anyway I can.
Slang has become so common place now

When you're referring to a man as a guy in your conversation with your boss, you know you need to start reading and fixing your vocabulary.

That's strange. If I'm in a history class and I'm talking about how black people were referred to in the past, I'd directly say "nigger". People need to be objective, but the discussion is about slangs and incorporating made up words in everyday vocabulary.

Let's return to a shakespearean time and speak like olden day thespians.
LoL! Why not?! Old English is beautiful.
Haha.
I'm sure it's beautiful now. But back then they also had their fair share of risqué words.

Oh, absolutely! I love that saying "Get thee self to a nunnery" †… It's insulting, but sounds nice.

"just saying" or "j/s"

after stating one's opinion
That's a way to avoid lash back for stating your opinion and you know there will be fragile flowers who will be coming at you for your opinion.

Yeah, but usually people say this after saying something mean or giving some "advice" and still want to stay appear being likeable and nice. Not always but many times it is used insincerely, so it's annoying to me. And yes, overused.

"CONVERSATE" *finally remembered*

Omg, people say this so they sound intellectual or smart, but sound like small children trying to use big words haha.

Another that makes my skin crawl because it's usually tied with someone who's full of shit or in the wrong-
"Well, you see what happened was..."

I DO NOT CARE. YOU'RE BEING A DICK/ARE STILL WRONG. YOUR STORY DOESN'T MATTER. STFU.
