Hi guys, BLM weren’t going to protest today but there’s been peaceful protest in Hyde Park. In the past few hours they moved towards Trafalgar Square. Some clashes going on with both groups in the Center and by the bridges across the south 😬😬

So when I was very young I went through a heavy ‘British boys are the dreamest’ phase and ‘no matter what I want to some day move to England’. My encounter with actual British people have been very limited. So I would create this allure around them being all charming and polite and possibly secretly a prince of some small unheard of kingdom or a heir (the Prince & Me was clearly very influential). Then in high school it expanded to actually trying to understand some part of British culture so I started watching shows for the youth like Skins UK and Misfits. I would also listen to Radio Xfm a lot (britpop/alternative stuff) and dubstep at its peak. It eventually clicked British people can be as fucked up as Americans and aren’t actually any more or less charming. So then by like senior year of high school I started becoming irritated by anyone lollygagging over British accents/people. Specially when we had just got a new kid who moved here from the UK. Everyone was all over him even tho he was just another typical scrawny high school asian boy simply cause they LOVED his accent and would literally melt every time he said ANYTHING.
I’m sure at some point we have all romanticized a certain type and had our bubbles popped (or not for those of you still chasing that unicorn). Now for me England is the last place on my list of desiring to visit. And making money in America is way easier than there. But I do still love their music.
I also feel ashamed that I lowkey made this thread cause I want any British guy seeing this thread to post a vocaroo. No chicks pls.

Accents can be attractive simply bc they are different from your usual norm. I tend to like them for that reason alone. I get bored with the same old all the time. The more you learn about any culture, the more you realize people are just people no matter where they are from. There are the same types everywhere, just sounding a bit different. I do find language in general and cultural subtleties very interesting. I’d love to be multi-lingual some day.
