Hi All,

So nowadays policies in the workplace has become more lenient on exposed tattoos as long as they are not offensive.

I work in a corporate environment in which they do not have a tattoo policy. However, majority of the folks I work with are conservative. I have always been they type to step outside of the box and not care what others think. However, since this is my main source of income, I wouldn't want to do anything that would hinder my success.

With that said, I am looking into a tasteful flower neck tattoo. What are your opinions on tattoos in a professional environment?

Thanks,

Milani

I like tattoos but I do feel that they are inappropriate in certain environments. If you are in a corporate setting and your superiors or clients are conservative a tattoo will hurt your success. It's sad, but people are judgmental. My advice is to only get tattoos that can be hidden by clothing if necessary. A face or neck tattoo is a big no no.

Ultimately it is your choice. Is your self expression worth more than your career?

I am a Finance Manager, so I am in a corporate setting more often than not. I have an ASS ton of tattoos.

With that being said, I am strategic with my tattoo placement. No matter how modernized and mainstream tattoos have become, the corporate industry will always be on the conservative spectrum. Hence the reason why I have only gotten tattoos that are easily covered with clothing. On a day to day basis, at work, no one would know how heavily tattooed I am because I dress conservatively.

In my opinion, I have always found that neck tattoos and tattoos behind the ear look a little trashy on people in professional roles. That's ME though.

As far as my opinion on tattoos in a professional environment - I think it will be a long time before they are accepted

I know there was a time when dangly earrings were considered unprofessional - or even having your ears pierced at all - but tattoos have a long way to go

I guess because of how permenant they are ? Idk

I personally have nothing against them - many of my friends are heavily tatted - but tbh I've never seen a tattoo on someone and thought "wow that's pretty, they needed that ...really completed their look..." so I understand why people don't find hem professional
