He posted a picture of his lunch last night, and it had a picture of Teenafish. The water was milky. FIND IT
I feel so triggered knowing the feesh has dirty ass water 😐
It looked depressed laying on the bottom of the jar too. No scenery to look at, but a coffee maker.
Ugh.. I kinda want to adopt it now. Gotta give her a bath first

I wanted to give him an aquarium for his birthday. But I'm not sure anymore.. that fish doesn't seem like it can survive till then!! ?
That's because you have it in a stupid bowl.

It's a HUGE misconception to put those guys in these shitty little bowls that pet stores pawn off as an appropriate place to let these guys live.

Get a small aquarium. I had a 5 gallon for mine when I had Bettas. Just because these guys CAN live in such an environment doesn't mean that they should. You can live in a closet but it doesn't mean you should.

Also, the average life of Bettas is like 5-6 years, but is cut down quite a bit because of the environment they're raised in via pet stores- bigger risk of disease and infections that shortens their life span.

Why do you think he's sick? What's he doing?

Thanks rocky. But the fish isn't mine. It's Ands's.

N do you think fish needs an aquarium even if it's just one? How does it affect the life of the fish? N how often should an aquarium be cleaned? I didn't know it can survive for 5-6years.

It all boils down to quality of life. You shove a pet in a small, confined place, that's a shitty quality of life and it does affect their life span. It's like forcing a dog or cat to live in a cage most its life. People have issue with caged chickens because they live in those things their entire lives and can't really move. Same goes for keeping fish in small cups or bowls like a dipshit. People need to educate themselves further before getting a pet and doing crap that's usually perpetuated by an industry that profits from such ignorance.

Fish "breathe" in water, therefore need oxygenated water. When you have a stupid bowl to put a fish in, that's stagnant water, with nothing adding oxygen to it. When you have an aquarium with a filter, not only is that filter keeping the water clean, it also adds oxygen to it. Bettas CAN live in an environment like a bowl with the lack of a filter, but those spaces are so cramped. The concept is based off of the rice paddies that they can live in, but those paddies are also much, much bigger than these stupid bowls and tiny cups they're advertised in.

Water changes should be done weekly. I've forgotten the scheduling, but Bettas are low "polluters" in the sense that their tanks don't get dirty as quickly as say, a goldfish. (also note, you cannot use plain old tap water to put in the tanks. So many people aren't aware of this and end up killing their fish this way.)

You'd be amazed how long fish can live. I had a goldfish for 9 years and he was one of those feeders you win at carnivals haha (golfish can live up to 50 years if I remember right). He got huuuge too. My parents made me give him away when we moved back out here. 😢

Since then, I've dabbled with some bettas since they're lower maintenance than goldfish. But they can be troublesome with getting sick because they are a "tropical" fish of sorts and you have to pay close attention to water temp. The common issue with my last two was just sickness. One had a swim bladder issue which could be linked to something like cancer/age, and I forgot what the other had. I did a lot of troubleshooting/reading up on these guys and ended up learning a lot about how they tick, how to remedy common ailments (constipation is one, as strange as that sounds- solved with giving them a little fiber via peas).

When I clear up some room, I plan on getting a bigger aquarium and some goldfish again. I miss having a tank with purdy fish swimming around.

You seem to love fish....lol..you actually make me wanna love them too.

Ok!! I think this fish needs an aquarium(better if it has a filter). Ands, you need to see this.

Weekly water changing is enough? That already sounds like low maintenance. Why wouldn't people do it?

You had a fish for 9years— Amazing!!! You must have taken real good care of it.

How do you know what the exact sickness is?? Like the way you're saying cancer n constipation..how would we know that?

N goodluck with getting a new aquarium 🙂

I like critters, yes. If I had my way, I'd have a total menagerie of animals. I have a lot of knowledge with fish because I owned a goldfish for almost a decade and did a shit ton of reading up on betta care when I had mine. It's what responsible pet owners do. Some people just buy pets as if they're intimate objects to collect without bothering to learn anything about them, as it appears Ands has done (the fish bowl ignorance).

The exact sickness? I looked it up. There are forums out there where there are some hardcore betta owners who get uber detailed into breeding and raising them and I'd read through those to get info. It was just narrowing down the symptoms that he was exhibiting. If they're "pineconing" which is basically inflammation and the scales stick out like a pinecone, that's some no bueno stuff right there.

The pic that was shown, he looks depressed. You do know they need something to keep them entertained, right? It sounds weird, but a plain old bowl with nothing in it is just ...not stimulating at all. Put plants in there, rocks, formations for them to swim around in. Fuck, mine chased a laser pointer! Haha. You want entertainment, shine a laser pointer at an aquarium and they'll chase it around, thinking it's food.

If this fish is just moping around, he needs a better environment. If he's swimming to the top constantly, he needs more oxygenated water. If he's pineconing, you've got some serious issues. If he's struggling to stay down and keeps floating to the top, he has swim bladder issues (the swim bladder is what helps them swim up to the surface), which is pretty serious.

Either way, that fish needs a better environment. A small, 3-5 gallon aquarium isn't expensive and they sell "systems" that include the hood and filter. I think I got mine on sale for maybe 20-30 bucks or something like that. Hell, you could get away with a 1 gallon. It's not THE best, but it's good enough vs a bowl or cup.

I think many people just buy them as objects to collect yeah. I've seen people like that. Our neighbors are one among them. They keep buying pets. They've got birds, a cat, a dog, a squirrel and an aquarium full of fish. They never took good care of any of them. Their birds died within weeks, fish always die (That's the reason I thought fish won't live for long), They lost their dog n squirrel. Their cat looks extremely shabby all the time. I also vaguely remember them owning a rabbit for a while.

I think Ands got the fish recently n maybe he plans to get an aquarium, accessories n decor eventually.

The knowledge you have about fish amazed me..lol... I wouldn't have even thought of all that. I never had any pets nor have I been much around people who own pets. So I don't know much about their care.

Yeah, I can't stand people who do that with any sort of creature. I've always had a bad stroke of luck of having neighbors who treated their dogs like shit. Drove me crazy because I'm the opposite. My family actually had to call the humane society for our neighbors dog- a chow mix. Sweetest baby. They treated him like shit. The humane society took him away and found him a fabulous home so yay.

My current neighbors are both pro dog people and treat their pets like family members. It's been awesome for a change haha.

Lol right!! I do not watch porn nor am I on fb/insta/sc kinda things. I do read a lot of stuff in general. I was just never particularly interested in pets n petting.

Good that they found the chow-mix dog a home ?
