Posted by tizianiThat still is very coolPosted by WitchmitchAriesLol nah I only just took it up a few weeks ago. But unlike most of my hobbies, as soon as this got hard and i hit a roadblock, I wanted it even more and stuck with it. Now it's growing into the obsessive phase.Posted by tizianiyour a song writer. Posted by ApparitionMine is odd, but it's large numbers of maggots and larva. It's odd because I actually love bugs, and find them interesting. Idk what it is, but when I see a large number of them in unsettling places I freeze up, my heart sinks, and I feel dizzy. That type of control it has over me alone is a fear of mine all in itself.Posted by SoulOh, yeah... Misery Loves Company, or so they say.... I shared mine. What's yours?
I don't mean death either. The great demise tends to be every living creatures fear, but I mean more personal things.
Maybe it's spiders and the idea of them crawling on your back, or on your face and eventually into your mouth while you sleep.
Or maybe its a snake hiding in the grass then slithering out and showing itself to you when you least expect it.
Or maybe the idea of heights, and being at a life risking altitude while looking down with no control.
Or maybe its the pitch black of darkness, where you can't see the objects or creatures around you.

Posted by ApparitionTo say it is to think it.Posted by LadyNeptuneI understand what you're saying; however, I look at it like this. If whatever it is you choose not to put into words is your fear... I hate to break it to you, but it already has a power over you. It's there, and to deny that means you'll never be able to get control back from the thing that you, yourself, can't see because you don't want to see it. Why? Because it's scary and you're afraid? See how it quickly becomes a vicious cycle.Posted by HearttofTopazThis. To put words to it gives it power.

I'm afraid of this, but I won't say what this is, because I'm afraid of making it real, because it is and that truth scares me.
You have to break that chain somewhere, somehow. Why not today?click to expand

Posted by ApparitionIt could be pheromones. That makes perfect sense actually, and could possibly be a defense mechanism small larve have. I kind of feel the same feeling of surprise and freeze when I see a snake randomly slither by, but I don't fear snakes. I actually find them cool and use to catch them as a kid. I think it has something to do with the movement and shape that surprises me. When it comes to maggots though it's the shape, movement, location, and quantity all at once that makes me freak out.Posted by Soul1 question:Posted by ApparitionMine is odd, but it's large numbers of maggots and larva. What is your deepest fear?
Recently a friend had to leave town in a hurry, and I said I would stop by and feed their pets. They left a pile of dirty dishes, so I figured I'd clean them up. Half way through I could smell rotting food, which was getting stronger. I lifted up the next plate and there it was. Dozens of little tiny squirming wriggling maggots. They had tunnels all through the rotted food, and I completely froze unable to move or look away from the horror of it all. There were also hundreds of eggs planted all over the rest of the dishes. I'm feeling like I need to lie down just thinking about it. Anyway I got control of myself and decided to push through it and finish the dishes. I sprayed bleach and hot water all over them, and just pretended like it wasn't there. I didn't even tell them either. I just put the dishes away and let them eat dinner off clean plates a whole infestation of flys and worms nested on. Never offered to help them again after that.
I've had that fear of maggots since I was a child, so seeing that was really horrifying to me. I can remember many times walking through the woods and stumbling upon the corpse of a deer or another animal that naturally died. The sight of the hundreds of maggots all over them would make me freeze and just stare in horror, unable to move. It wasn't the corpse I feared, it was the insects swarming it. Idk why it does that to me, and nothing else in life has that type of control over me. Like I'm not afraid of a single maggot, or even feel uncomfortable or fear when I see them on tv. I know they are harmless, and practally defenseless. It's just a baby bug. But when they appear in unsettling places in mass numbers right in front of my face it makes me feel pure fear.
Do you think, perhaps, the reaction could be created by the pheromones that are being put off by the insects? It sounds totally odd, but if the reaction only happens if there are many maggots it's totally possible since a few don't have the same effect
1 statement:
I don't believe that's simply fear; man...
"Panic is an extension of fear, but in an extreme form; feeling totally overwhelmed by the physical and mental feelings of it. It happens when faced with sudden life threatening danger at this very moment now. The panic response – ‘red alert’ – is vital in this situation because it gets the body instantly into the optimum state for survival; getting ready to fight or flee, or sometimes even freeze.
Panic is more often experienced in the context of a panic attack. In a truly dangerous situation the physical effects of panic are put to good use fighting or fleeing, and the person would be focusing on doing just that; not thinking about how they were feeling. It’s only when panic strikes for no apparent reason, that a person has chance to become aware of its many physical sensations."
You may want to give it more thought, because (to me) it doesn't sound like it's the maggots themselves either. It sounds like (again, to me) it has something to do with the entirety of the situation you've been thrown in and not the individualized components.
To be fair, I can be 100% wrong. You are an introspective individual, so I'm not going to devalue and/or invalidate how you think/feel. I'm just trying to understand better I suppose.click to expand
