Honestly. I look at Japan and I see how advanced their tech is which is nearly like a decade or two ahead of us. And I wonder, WHY THE HELL ARE WE BEHIND?! Are we just not sending funding to science, tech, and educational institutes to at least bring forth innovation to make our tech rival other countries or at least get ahead of say Japan. Education is the most important thing out there and I feel the U.S is throwing it away to fight a meaningless war in Afghanistan and a war from a problem that was a created 13 years ago in Iraq and is becoming a yearly effort to fight what the U.S created. Why are we wasting this? I think it's time to let go of Afghanistan and stop playing World Police. Sure, I still think the fight in Iraq needs to be one because it's a problem the U.S created but every where else needs to be let go of and I feel we need to get back to domestic issues instead of foreign was. They wanna kill each other? Let them. Any thoughts?

They aren't that much ahead of us, but they do make some excellent products with a reputation for being quality at a reasonable price. Part of their success stems from a great work ethic: it's been hardwired into the culture for thousands of years. Honor, a pride in self and how it effects others, sense of duty in the hierarchy of family, community, country. That has it's down side, too, when people feel so much pressure to maintain a certain standard that anything less than perfection might send some into suicide.

As for our own issues, we've defunded NASA, sciences, education while increasing military spending, dumping loads of money into wars we have no business being in. Companies in the US are being run by greedy bastards that don't care about the final product, or their workers, they just want as much profit as possible, but when the sales dip down they want the government to bail them out. Jobs are outsourced to countries that have nearly slave labor, and the politicians pander to the big businesses.

We need to revamp how things are done and where the money is spent, and how if we want to compete on a global level. We're making ourselves fall behind while thumping our chests and declaring our ultimate greatness.

As for common core math, have you actually sat down and tried to understand it? I have, because I have 2 kids going through with it. Neither have had problems learning math using common core. I struggle with understanding it, but only because it's different than how I was taught to do math. Common core shows multiple ways of solving the same problems, that's IT, and that's actually a good thing, because it makes for more flexible thinkers, and it also caters to more learning styles, not just one, which means more students will be able to do the problems. I have the feeling that OP's post is a couple decades too old.

Japan being technologically ahead stopped being true in the 90s. Nowadays they have tough economic and demographic challenges to tackle, and a lot of competition from other asian countries. They manufacture very few electronics any more, it all comes from china. Japan automobiles don't dominate the market like they did in the 80s when they almost killed american carmakers. Western car makers dominate in their own countries I think.
Also the USA is not in a war in IRAQ any more.

See it isn't so much we're lagging behind. We're actually ahead 100 or so year from what you see.

The difference is the government discovered around the 1950s how bad it was for them for the general public to have their hands on such great and advanced technology. The people could then use the same technology against it's own government that the government used against the people and other countries as a form of control.

By leaving the general public 50 to 100 years in the past the government then gains that many years of control over Its public in advance.

Get it?

i would even suggest its not so much that the technology is hidden... its more that people don't pay attention and dont believe in the technology when they hear about it.

American and Constitutional History classes have been vaporized from most Pubrik Skrool Systums.

Only a fool would put his kid into that type of sewage known as "Common Core."
No real debate from you, all you do is barf out what you picked up from some right wing fear mongering page. Until you actually get your hands dirty and learn about what you think you believe you'll never understand.

Generating fear makes people easier to control. Fear the blacks, fear the whites, fear the police, fear the gays, fear some disease, fear muslims, fear immigrants, fear sin, fear hell, fear fear fear fear! Religions and governments have been using this for thousands of years, it's nothing new. Making the masses afraid means more money and power to the institution that's controlling them, because people will pay to have the "bad" guys stopped, have salvation from eternal damnation, etc.

America is behind because of cut funding on various sciences and research. Additionally there were laws that are passed and that are continually trying to be passed that allows for corporation to easily outsource and import workers that will take lower wages. This has caused the effect of pushing talent away from fields where most needed. This of course feeds into itself to allow for more outsourcing and more importing.

Such a shame to deeply think about it and realize something amazing like opportunity to live and breath as animated lifeforms is controlled by fear. Taking people's differences and using them against each other with fear as the fuel is truly sinister. And the only way to brush the fear under the rug is by chasing a bunch lies. I'm not saying God, the human spirit, or things along the lines of those are lies. Only when put in the hands of people to be used to ones advantage do they become just that.

People CAN live and breathe freely. They have to open their minds and think outside the box. When they do they'll see life differently. There IS a shift going on in the collective conscious, a shift towards more out of the box thinking/being/living, and those that are afraid, that can't handle change, or don't want to "lose power" are pushing/fighting against the shift, and that's why you see people being bold about their bigoted ideals while claiming not to be bigots, and why anything new is "bad" or some kind of "conspiracy"....but the pendulum keeps swinging. Everyone has the same chance and choice to be introspective, to cast aside anything that no longer serves them or the truth. Some embrace that moment of discomfort in an effort to live more freely, and some cling to the old systems like their life depends on it.

@Soul Too many have gotten so caught up in this reality that they've completely forgotten and lost touch with their true self, their soul, so they pile shit and more ugly shit on top of their beautiful soul, but they struggle with how awful they feel, so they pile more shit on top of the shit. Some do this until they die, and some wake up from it. Being honestly introspective is never the most comfortable of experiences, even more so if it makes one have to challenge what they've insisted is the truth when it's not.

If I could I'd drop off the grid. Invest in some solar panels, wind turbines, and maybe a generator I can run off ethanol or biodiesel. Build a greenhouse and a fish pond. Leave this fucked up society.
Totally. Working on it. We won't have the fish pond until after Spring. Already have greenhouses from recycled materials of houses torn down.

yes, a lot is going on
in my country. we know.

now, how about yours?
what's going on there?

A lot of shit that will likely either result in a better safety and security net for the economy in the U.S and work for better foreign relations and end this stupid 65 year issue of fighting other country's wars. Or, something that will drive the economy down the hill, foreign relations get destroyed, and likely a giant civil conflict in the worst case scenario.

Common core math? Like this?

High School Example
Previous Math Question CCSS Math Question
If 3(y-1) = 8, then what is y? What are two different equations with the same solution as 3(y-1) = 8?

This question is an example of solving equations as a series of mechanical steps This question is an example of solving equations as a process of reasoning.

If it's this shit. Then I agree with Scorpfish. Fuck common core math it's a load of bullshit.

they do not like to tell us

He kinda forgot Ukraine as well. I can say Fukushima is no Chernobyl and Pripyat, but it's close if not right there at it. But luckily they won't have to deal with a cracking and falling sarcophagus for another 30 years. The sarcophagus around reactor 4 in Chernobyl is already falling apart.

naturally i am going to say
for my country.

we are not better than anyone.
but we have our good and bad,
like any other country.

honestly, there is no other place
like Japan. we can only deal with
our issues. other countries need
to focus on their own as well.
What about the weird, secular culture?

And the nuclear radiation?
its only weird to you
because you are not
Japanese.

im sure your country has
a lot of weird things too.

is Japan the only country
with nuclear radiation?
are you looking for an
argument? or just wanted
to be negativity stupid?
Why are you being belligerent? I'm just asking a simple question.

Are you not worried about poisoning your food supply? Don't you feel guilty as a nation for poisoning the Pacific Ocean with nuclear waste for the next several millenia?

Fukushima is arguably the most terrible environmental disaster in world history - and it's still dumping tons of nuclear waste into the ocean on a daily basis.

I'm speaking to you from human to human - not from American to Japanese. It's troubling.

my name is not TEPCO.
you are not going to try
to guilt me for what they
did. im belligerent that
you point fingers, but
have not said anything
about your own country.

we are fully aware what
is going on in our place.
how about trying to help
the issues going on in
your country before you
dare talk about mine?

You are indeed not TEPCO, but I feel that Japan as a nation should step up and take a more aggressive approach to cleaning up the nuclear waste.

do you not read the news?
it has been out of Japan's
hands since it happened.
this is not longer just a
'Japanese' issue. it' is a
world issue now. So what
are you going to do about
it? we cannot contain it or
solve alone. so how about
helping instead of harping?

meanwhile, shouldnt america
learn from our mistake and use
less nuclear energy?

how many nuclear plants do
you all have? what if they go
through a meltdown? will
american government be so
fast to share the news? they
never cover up anything or
give distractions, do they?
didnt america already get
busted for dumping nuclear
waste in the waters too?
and arent they still doing it?
hmm.... i'd look at my own
home problems first.

So what could said about nuclear power? Many say its clean and efficient but Chernobyl and Fukushima say otherwise in some regards. I think it's clean if properly contained. Reactors meltdown= far worse than anything an oil spill or burning of fossil fuels could create.
Do a search for thorium.

I've researched it. It seems like a good alternative to uranium. But it's pretty rare and would likely be expensive as hell if it ever saw use in reactors for plants. But I think if the U.S does send better funding to science, education, research, and economic safety nets then I think the country will be far better off and for once we could be able to accomplish something again and stop encouraging rampant stupidity through reality television, social networks, and politics. But that maybe wishful thinking on my part. A good way to do that would definitely be getting rid of common core math.

feel free to love your
european trash heaps.

unless you are in europe
driving them, the trouble
to maintenance them is
not worth it anywhere else.
too costly to fix any damage.
parts must be imported in.
but each to his or her own.

and what is with the
Japanese threads?
weren't you the guy
who said something
along the lines of if
you didnt win the war
you'd all be speaking
Japanese? -_-

please focus on another
country. dont compare
our countries. we are 2
different places entirely.

wait you mean me or katana? I'm comparing the U.S and Japan based on an educational and technological aspect. To which I look at the technological and wonder how they're ahead of us or why we aren't innovating this technology.
