The idea of punishment implies that one partner is trying to take control of the other. I think that both partners should always be on equal footing.

Well eventually if you are in a long enough relationship and its rocky sex will come into the fray.
As will all things. When having sex with your partner feels as a reward for bad behavior or you don't feel like it and still maybe hurt from from whatever and this feeling continues on. Its time to start the exit because it will probably never get better.
Now if your angry but not hurt and you carry it on longer and then use sex as a weapon then the other partner should start the exit plan. Once you get a taste for the nuclear device its hard not to pull it out of the emotional arsenal.

The only time I've come across this personally was when my two friends were going out with one another for about 2-3 years, he cheated on her. I can't remember if he admitted to sleeping with a woman or something else. But anyway her punishment was for him not to touch her at all for 2 weeks.
Long term, they didn't work out.

LOL a couple I know, the guy cheated on her, she found out a few years back, she's still punishing him. She must've withheld sex for months. I don't know why they stay together.

Yes it's real. Absolutely all Virgo stereotypes are true for ALL Virgos. We consider it our personal duties in life to behave like frigid cardboard in the bedroom and aspire to have the most mundane of semi-motionless missionary sex because anything else could be enjoyable. What's enjoyable could upset our knitting needles and get messy. Don't even think about trying to get fresh outside of your scheduled day and time for biological recreation.

At what point does it become punishment because I personally won't sleep with someone if I'm angry with them. It's not about "punishing", it just means I'm too cross to find you sexually arousing right now.
