"John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" around a month ago.

After watching it - was kinda hard to believe - this movie scored 8/10 on IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6146586/ I mean, i guess the action scenes and the special effects were decent enough (same goes for the random humor here and there), but... there's so much nonsense in this movie. It's so detached from the real world.

For one thing... there's no freaking cops in this movie! Even tho, the first fighting/shooting scenes take place in New York City (let's face it... it's enough for someone to fire one shot in New York - and that place would be crawling with cops). Not only that... this guys were fighting in crowded areas (like a train station) - they were practically surrounded by people, yet... nobody was reacting in any way. It's as if they were all invisible. Another example... they managed to break into a weapons museum (filled with swords, guns and ammunition) - "by kicking a basic door (instead of a secured entrance, an alarm system and a security guard - which is the standard for this type of building)". Next, we have a stable filled with horses in the middle of New York - yet, again... nobody was guarding it - nobody was taking care of the horses. You'd think it was conveniently deserted - so this guys could fight and shoot each-other without being disturbed. This movie is filled with stupid/illogical shit like that. 🙄

John Wick 3 - was clearly not made for a mature audience (or anyone who can think for that matter). If you're to compare it to similar titles like "The Bourne Identity..." I take that back, there's no room for comparison. The first John Wick was pretty decent tho.

US...(2019) was good.

Before that, Hereditary.

I havent been able to sit through another movie since 2011 l think, they're such crap these days...

Nah. There's still great films being made I just ignore superhero films and silly teen comedies with no good jokes.

Could you name a few? Superhero films are embarassing...along with the hordes of adults who rave about them...jesus..🙄 But Annihilation, Bird box, Arrival, John Wick, Passengers, Alien Covenant, they're just all terrible.

Keanu Reeves was really popular this past years - so they're milking him (: getting extra points just for that).

@MyStarsShine mentioned Three Billboards and Baby Driver. I've not seen the other films she mentioned.

I've included films I've enjoyed, some are from 2011:

Stan & Ollie

Backroads (2018)

Filth (2013) - I'm biased because I really liked the book.

Peppermint

Snowpiercer

Frances Ha (that one might be love it or hate it as it's a hipster drama)

Holy Motors

Combat Girls

Darkest Hour

Tyrannosaur

Drive

The Guard

The Revenant

Headhunters (2011)

Frances McDormand was amazing in the three Billboards movie, wasn't she? I was on the edge of my seat..

Try and watch Get Out if you can....

She's good on everything. Also check out Six Shooter the directors first film. It's about 50 minutes long I think and I found it very funny, might be on YouTube or similar.

I will add get out to my watchlist.

Once upon a time in hollywood

The first 15 minutes are fucking brilliant. Full of energy and breathtaking cinematography. Quentin perfectly captured the spirit of that epoch, there is something to be learned in this movie, to witness how the people were living the dream without second guessing, while constantly listening or watching loud entertainment all the time. It's the origin of the uncomprehensible world we're living in right now. Try to work it out.

Then the movie kinda loses itself. The pointless scenes with margo robbie almost kill it. But tarantino must have had some contractual obligations to give this bitch some screen time, or sthg.

Thankfully the messy puerile tarantinesque ending does not for once ruin the movie, but instead save it.

First time I genuinely appreciate a tarantino movie, despite its flawed pace. First time I see di caprio actually act. Pitt as wonderful as always, pure masculine energy, a living god. The ending works very nicely. Try not to spoil yourself about the plot before seing it.

Once upon a time in Hollywood

Too long

Boring, drawn out scenes

Gratutitous and predictable violent scene at the end

Figures why he is retiring....running out of original ideas..

LOL I loved it but I am biased.

-From LA/am familiar with the filming locations.

-Was previously interested in the Manson murders history and polanksi controversy.

----

Locations and driving scences all made sense.

Dissullioned actors chasing the hollywood dream.

also loved the allusions to polanski controversy in general.

Did you catch them?

( both Dicaprio's character and Pitt's character ask two different young women their age at different points in the movie)

IT Chapter 2

Wow, this was really not good.

It was already bad that we had to wait a year for the sequel, thus forgetting most of what happened in the first chapter, but it's bad.

It's like they can't manage to describe realistic adult characters that are not one-dimensional plot advancing devices. Although you can legitimately wonder if it's still possible to have a story of believable adults in the age of social media and outrage-culture.

Here, the characters are just going through a catalog of cliche reactions and weird initiatives that lead to a canned ending.

The movie is a vaudeville of jump scares, bad CGI and dream-sequence garbage. You can tell that the cast of semi-celebrities don't believe in the movie themselves, and neither do the writers. The 4th wall is broken a little too often for comfort. All the flashbacks are just there to evoke that trendy vaporwave faux-80s-kids-riding-bikes bullshit that hipsters will love.

They completely omited the underlying narrative and opted for a cartoon episode with a cartoony ending that is insulting even to the first chapter. It was pretty much like watching a Tom and Jerry episode.

Let's not talk about ambiance, there is none.

Stick to the book or the old adaptation.

Invisible Man [2020] +++++

Best movie of the year that I've seen so far. Contrieved at times, but if you go into it as pure entertainment about gaslighting with an twist on 'The Invisible Man' it's fucking awesome. Definitely added to my list of Noughties horror essentials, alongside 'Hereditary', 'It Follows' and 'The Vvitch'.

The Lighthouse [2019] +++/++

The symbolism is kind of the driving narrative here but since I'm not very interested in - or bothered to polish up on Greek mythology and legends of the ocean I'm pretty much stuck with two lighthouse watchmen drinking, fighting, farting, making up, repeat.

The Hunt [2019] +++/++

Well, this was cathartic: Smug SJWs portrayed as scum for once. Times they're 'a' catching on. In its greatest moments it resembles 90's Tarantino.

Color Out of Space [2019] ++/+++

It kind of drags on with no place to go. The color is prettiiii though.
