Ooh so it's out?! As a fan of Paul Schrader "First Reformed" will definitely find its way to my livingroom sometime soon
Caught me off guard
I completely forgot about this one, it freaked me out when I first saw it.
The soundtrack is equally creepy and surreal as the film itself
La decima vittima (1965)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059095
A very stylish social-fiction movie with the flair of the italian 60s and some great cinematogaphy.
Recomended, if you can put your hand on a translated version of this movie. A real gem.
Up in the Air
Please stand by
Enjoyed them both
Historically inaccurate but its good to watch as a story and its the best chase movie ever. I can watch it over and over and over again and never get tired of it
great movie
a bit hardcore, but with a soul
Drag me to hell and Chronicles of Riddick
I've been on a Wong Kar Wai kick lately. Chungking Express is next.
I just love watching Peyman Moaadi on my screen
One of my faves. The acting and writing were so on-point.
I remember you posting about Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, I just saw a trailer for a 2012 film that reminded me of it (indirectly -- but mostly from the focus on the unconscious and also the trippy soundtrack and the cinematography):
Same guy who directed Mandy directed this
Three Identical Strangers
A documentary with a twist.. kinda almost relates to astrology, or at least an astrology lover would find an added meaning in it
it comes at night
what a load of hipster bullshit.
It's like they ripped the 5 most vacant minutes from a TWD episode and decided to made a full length feature movie with it, but mid length, they decided to turn it into a cryptic philosophical metaphor about the refugee crisis, or the recent cop shootings, I'm not really sure which one. 90 minutes of nothing
Malevolent it's not as scary as I hoped.
Annihilation
Science fiction horror film with Natalie Portman

Hold the Dark. Was looking for a Stephen King movie but ended up watching the Netflix original instead.
One of my favorite movies. An action archetype not engaging in action, lovely
I'm the biggest jarmusch fan, but I found he was trying a little bit too hard in this one, like he was making a parody of himself

How? The one thing I love about his films is that he actually DOESNT try too hard.. they all have a slow/still buildup too and its always worth it.
Whats your favorite Jarmusch movie then?

I don't think I have a favorite, I like them all, but this one is going a bit too much into the forced aesthetics and the actors themselves don't play natural.
I don't really like dead man a lot either, but probably because it was overhyped
[EDIT]
also, since he got a cult status, all the trendy actors want a bit in his movies, so I don't like the actors he's been using since the 2000s. Bunch of hipster celebrities.
I've not seen all of them but I realy enjoy simpler movies such as Stranger than paradise and Down by law.
The girl on the train
'The Sixth Sense' by M. Night Shyamalan (stars Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment)
Beautiful, spiritual, chilling, deep...'first-rate acting, great script..i loved the mood and pace of this film; sticks in my mind; one of favorites...
M. Night Shyamalan - I always thought he had the coolest name I'd ever heard.
i watched all movies from this new star mike flanagan who made this new tv show the haunted hill house - which is cool so far, and the new movies are comme ci, comme ca. absentia and oculus are still way better.
I have a secret for you, all those Tv shows on the new networks like netflix and co, are just filler material made to bait and captivate the audience with really easy tricks.
Generally, there is a mysterious plot that keeps being mysterious and is generally never explained (like in LOST). Just some really mysterious shit that keeps becoming more and more mysterious with each episode. Then you add a couple famous ancient memetic actors mixed into a cast of nerdy millenials ("wow, gillian anderson, really?! I need to watch that"). Then you add all the usual baits : paranormal, violence, gratuitous softporn, power fantasy, etc...
And you keep milking this for as long as the show gets some audience.
You just abandon the show once the audience dwindles and start a new one, don't bother bringing closure to the fallen shows.
In the world of speculative capitalism , growth is more important than capital.
Dead of night (1945)
Very cool mystery/fantastic movie, the scenario and ending are brilliant and make you wish for a remake. The old fashioned aspect can make it a bit difficult to stay immersed though.
The house that dripped blood(1970)
This anthology movie with C. Lee/peter cushing is more accessible to modern audiences. The stories are entertaining and make a good halloween movie.
The limehouse golem
Interesting movie that was done in an oldschool style , which mean it doesn't rely on special effects or stupid action scenes and focuses on the story, it felt like the type of thriller movies made before the 90s. Only problem is that the killer's identity is so predictable it ruins the movie slightly. Still enjoyable.
Guess I'm having a retro day.
I never liked this franchise, even back in the 80s, found it boring.
That said I found the TV show very nice, at least the first two seasons.
''Sangria. They say it quenches the thirst of anyone who drinks it. Even the thirst one would never confess to. In fact, they call it the drink of oblivion.''
''No one understood the perfume of the dark magnolia of your belly. No one knew you martyred a hummingbird of love between those teeth.'' I was dead
This looks flawless β€
Have you seen this movie? Its low energy but I think youre going to like the storyline

Escape from L.A. Hilarious B-movie stuff. Terri-bad, PS1 grade CGI.
have you seen the first one? It's miles better. The sequel was only dones as a joke imo. It looks like one.
escape from NY, otoh is a cult movie, deservedly so
Venom.. pretty decent and funny
I like Chris Hardy π

Die Hard.
It's not Christmas until I hear "Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC as John McClane cleans out terrorists from Nakatomi Tower.
Matrix Reloaded - Remastered in 4K
I did watch the original back in the days on DVD and now rewatched in beautiful remaster in 4K resolution on a 4K tv of course. The action scenes are well worth the watch especially the agent fight, chateau fight scenes and the highway scene while the story is okay.
The first one was great though.

Escape from New York
A lot of fun. I donβt know why they made the L.A. film as it was essentially exactly the same. The acting was a lot better in NY.
Star Trek: First Contact
One of my favourite Trek films. Great action sequences and explains a bit about the universe of Star Trek. Unbelievably, made in the same year as Escape from L.A. but the SFX blow that film away.
first contact is generally considered the best star trek movie, along the voyage home.
That scene at the end when the alien reveals his species, would send chills down the spine of every trekkie.
Christmas Evil (1980) or Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) - which one is better? @Prince_Pisces

silent night deadly night has cult status and the sequel has one of the greatest psychopath killers of the 80s
Mortal Engines
After the first 20 minutes, I completely lost interest. Poorly conceived and edited, with forced jokes and trite dialogue.
The following day, I decided to finish it but gave up about 15 minutes before the end. I couldn't give a shit about the protagonist and too many ideas (especially during the second half) had been lifted from the Star Wars OT.
Great CGI but that's worthless when every other aspect of the film is shite. Meh!
Saw this last night. The 2 mains were so unlikeable so it was hard to get behind anyone other than Agent Smith and Jihae. The concept & universe is interesting; I wished they showed more cities like Panzerstadt-Bayreuth (in the book, it's bigger than London and would've shown the destructive power of MEDUSA) and didn't simplify everything.

I haven't actually seen either, I just know SNDN2 is where the "garbage day" meme comes from and the killer makes some outrageously campy kills.
But most of these movies get tedious.
Let's wait for PP's expertise.

Giving Christmas Evil a chance. Seems a little closer to the whole mythology of the season; it actually starts with a kid catching Santa "kissing" his mother's kitty.Β So far so good lol.
Plus it's made 1980 before the slasher genre got worn out.
Terminator 2 - Judgement day
Remastered to 4K
Old but gold. I had to rewatch this one in glorious remastered edition and it was great. For its age the special effects are still awesome and the story is one of the best in the series. Its in my top 10 of best movies ever.
Finally watched Bird Box last night. It was good until Sandra Bullock started reaching for an Oscar when she was trying to convince the kids to keep their blindfolds on. The memes are killing me though

Aqua man was simple
why did he go hot and cold though?
Aquaman in 4DX:

(above image could be from that exact cinema or another with exactly the same settings/decor).
What can be seen in above image is only half the experience. Beyond the shaking (during action scenes) and water being sprained in your face/hair (when there's a scene involving water splashing or raining / since this was Aquaman - that happened quite a lot... cold barely see at times - since it was spraying the 3D glasses π€) - there's some mechanical thingy in the chair that keeps punching you in different regions of the back (i didn't like that part π). And there's also some air tubes both in the head region and beneath at your feet (blows some hair at times - even slow breezes during slow scenes - where the camera rolls down from above). The light goes off and on as well - and there's also some stuff pouring down from the seeling (like water balloons, decorative paper and so on... i guess it differs - depending on movie).
Overall was ok. Entertaining. Helps at times, especially if the movie is kinda bad. Tho, if it's a really good movie - all this extra mambo jumbo can be in the way (it's hard to get in the skin of the characters or focus on the movie properly - while being shacked and punched in the back at every turn, plus all the other stuff mentioned above).
Aquaman but I'm headed to the movies today to see

The Girl in the Spider Web.

Death Wish 2018
5/10 - basically Bruce Willis version of Taken. It was ok for what it was but very predictable. Had some amusing moments (intentional or not).
'The Sixth Sense' by M. Night Shyamalan is connected to Split which is connected to Glass. Surprisingly the actors in Glass also have something in common. If you watch these movies together you'll understand it.

it's 'unbreakable' no 'the sixth sense'
the sixth sense is the only shyamalan movie that doesn't suckkkkk hard, and it's probably because it was his first and they didn' let him free rein. Once he got famous with 6th sense, he started producing all this terrible terrible crap
