Vivarium [2019] +++/++

A couple is forced to play House in a suburb with no end where they're the only habitants. Anyone familiar with the Twilight Zone will know what to aspect. Feels more like a short film stretched to feature lenght but fascinating throughout nontheless.. in the most superficial way.

Young Adult [2011] +++/++

Don't know how I missed this one, probably got lost in a sea of worthless Hollywood comedies with similar covers. Altough never stated, Charlize Theron's character's main problem isn't that she's an alcoholic but that she's a textbook example of someone with borderline personality disorder. In light of that there's more depth (and hope) to the tragic aspects of this dark comedy.. credit to Diablo Cody.

Also an unusual perspective cuz in Hollywood culture it's usually male characters that refuse to mature and grow up, if it's a woman there's usually a redeeming reason for it, like an external factor.. Not here though, she's just a loser and that's why her journey is interesting.

Though like Ebert said, it's one of the unusual examples of an unlikeable character that we actually like even less towards the end than we did in the beginning.

Oohhh... this looks interesting!

soo good, one of my favs! first saw it at TIFF a couple years back 🙂

Really?!? I’ve already planned to watch it this weekend as well. Love the mix of cultures, the heaviness and unexpected humor... I’m excited!

What is TIFF?

About Time

❤️

LOOOOVE this movie😍😍👍🏼… watched it at least two times. Always makes me cry though 🥺.

It’s wonderful 😍

The way Tim looks at his kids, wife and dad had me 😢my ❤️out. I love his acting 👍

Yes, me too🥰💝. He explodes kindness, good heart and caring energy. He’s not someone I would consider attractive at first meet… but that personality of his debunks all😍

Yes! I feel the same way .... his ❤️ shines out of him. I’d love a male friend like him.

Do you remember the bit in the church when he did the little dance? Such fun 😀. I felt like i loved him 💗 lol.

And he’s Irish 💚😀

This was HILARIOUS!!! I need to watch the first one. But this one was so funny!

I stopped watching 30 minutes into it.

Modern movies are so badly written that I no longer have the tolerance for them.

There was no story and the humour was too forced. It was an unnecessary sequel.

Salma Hayek is the only reason why I persisted with it for as long as I did.

I didn't watch the first one, so maybe that's why I found the dry humor funny. There was no real story line, just enough to have funny scenes with lots of action. It was a senseless comedy to me.

Saw this last night. It has so much girl power in the movie. You can really tell Hollywood is following the #metoo trend and trying to be more progressive.

You know The Woke has infiltrated your common sense when you think Hollywood is doing anything out of the goodness of their progressive little hearts

Lol @ trying to be more progressive

OR trying to cash in on the latest hype?

I never get notifications when you quote me. I happened to come across this stalking your profile 😊

It's not my common sense that has anything to do with it. It's Hollywood trying to create movies that sell in theatres. This had way too much feminism in it. Have you seen the movie? It was overkill. Which seems like it's having an impact in Hollywood, like I said, sucka! 😛

4 days in September. Good movie about a period of time not well known nor remembered. Alan Arkin plays an American ambassador that's kidnapped by rebels in Brazil. At the time Brazil was under a military dictatorship. The kidnapping was a way for the rebels to get their comrades released from jail.

Being in the rebel "army" was interestingly depicted. Once in, the comrades all had to follow orders, profess their loyalty, hide out all the time. They had absolutely no freedom. They were extremely paranoid of any phone call, knock on the door, person that walked by. If they didn't agree or had different ideas, too bad. There was no way out for any of them. What was the difference between that and living in a dictatorship. Seemed like none.

Alan Arkin is great, as usual. The movie is available on youtube in several versions. Only one with English subtitles.

Old. What a steaming turd!

I'm not really a fan of M. Shyamalan. He's basically a one-trick pony, whose best early releases starred Bruce Willis (IMHO). Since then, his movie releases have been gradually getting worse and Old really takes the biscuit.

Everything about it is awful - the poorly written script; the contrived, clunky and cringe-worthy dialogue; the stilted acting; the blurry camerawork; the incessant need to pack in as many shocks as possible (instead of just telling a coherent story)...

And what's with modern movies always giving the impression that the production team are on an extremely tight filming schedule? New movies all feel so rushed now, with half-baked scenes and questionable editing. Seriously, the 'new generation' working in Hollywood need to go back to frigging film school!

Without giving too much away, there are so many things wrong with this movie. I'll point out three of them:

1) No skeletons anywhere. Yes, bones do decay, but it would take centuries for the bones to decay and meld with the sand. Going by the indication that another group of tourists was soon due to visit the secluded beach, and based on the rate of ageing, not enough time would have elapsed for human bones to fully decay.

2) The brother is younger than the sister, right? Then why is it, at one point, he was evidently much older than his sister (and let's not forget the sudden and mysterious appearance of his tanned complexion)? I was waiting for a plausible explanation but got nothing. Even the characters overlooked the obvious. Probably in a rush to wrap-up filming, Shyamalan lost track of which actors should have been in the which scenes.

3) The final line of dialogue at the end of the movie. No, you are not! Think about it, dummy! To think that the movie started and ended with atrocious dialogue, from a well-established filmmaker, is absolutely shocking.

I only gave this movie a chance because of Gael García Bernal but even his (underused) presence wasn't enough.

*facepalm*

I completely agree- Bad acting, terrible plot twist that was so ordinary, it wasn't even worth doing a movie about.

It was a waste of my theater money!!!

I loved the popcorn more!

Pig (2021)

Fear Street: 1994 (2021)

Come True (2020)

Swallow (2019)

The Boy Behind the Door (2021)

Recently it's been one shit-show after the other. It's too cheap and simple to make movies these days so anyone with (barely) 20 min worth of material can stretch it to a navel-gazing full lenght feature with "ambient" music and call it cinema.

Actually didn't even see The Boy Behind the Door (2021). Had to turn it off literally after 10 minutes, well right after that boy smashed the window to get back inside which if you think about it, no one in his situation would have done cuz you don't know where the fuck you are, WHY the fuck you are, who the fuck you're dealing with and where the fuck THEY are at that exact moment.... but sure let's break a window so the whole neighbourhood can hear it!

It had lazy writing all over it... the opening flashback of the boys discussing about getting away from the town.... wow, big dreamers in a small town, that's never been done before. Written in some screenwriting workshop?

Like really, is that flashback necessery before the movie even begins? Should have taken a few lessons from 21 Cloverfield Lane how to stay on point

Cool World

I'm a fan of Ralph Bakshi, but let's just say no wonder this film flopped.

Cool World is pretty hard to watch, disjointed and boring. I did appreciate the early 90s swag in the real characters, but the cartoon parts are shit, and 80% of the movie is cartoon.

The Last Duel

A Ridley Scott production! I *love* medieval era movies and shows. Adam Driver, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon are in it. It was incredibly done and has you on the edge of your seat.
