if you know solondz - his films are meant to provoke. this particular scene needed be edited out in order for the film to receive a pg rating. he opted to cblur one of the props in the scene. think the film has an R or nc 17 certificate. but the film is about lies, storytelling, hypocrisy, stereotyping. todd solondz is ruthless but ultimately right.

Personally I find that most sex scenes feel forced, like they're trying to sell you something. I still think In the Realm of Senses has the best sex scenes and not because they are unsimulated (most unsimulated sex scenes along with their movies are pure pretentious garbage, e.g. Gaspar Noe, 9 Songs ) though it's a huge part of it:

Yes they may be in your face and they may even engage in activities you personally don't fancy but that's irrelevant because i's not the sex itself, the positions and whatnot... it's the fact that you got these two people and altough their fucking may fall short of the Hollywood standard, it's very vulnerable and realistic.

It just feels like you're there in the moment witnessing or participating in something genuine, and not like we're about to skip to the next scene soon.
