Guess it depends how much it's used by other people too. Every classmate in the first four grades of primary school calls me by my middle name...the rest of the world by the first.
But I almost didn't have a middle name.
After I was born, my dad was at the civil registry to put my first name down. My Gemini grandfather leaned over him and said "Put this name too", which was the feminine version of his name. The official there went "SIR YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER", so the Gemini stepped bad annoyed. The Virgo found it funny and endearing so he said "Ok, ok, we'll add the other name too".

I was born on St Alexander's day. They had decided on Alexandra, Alexa or Roxana. In the end they went with 2 names that have no correspondence.
