I’m on this neighborhood app and this old granny mentioned how she’s never going to this restaurant again because they didn’t give her a senior discount. I made a comment mocking her and then it escalated to a debate about social security and all these old people are like “I feel sorry for you and I pray you never have to worry about money when you reach that age.... you just wish old people were thrown in the garbage.... get a grip.... I paid social security for 60 years, are you saying I don’t deserve to receive fixed income?” I don’t even expect to live that long so why should I give a shit?

There wasn't a lot of opportunities to invest back then.
The 401k programs didn't start until what.. the late 70's?
You have to remember.. that when social security was implemented, we were coming out of the great depression.
Money was scarce in most households. Most didn't have the ability to put away extra money for retirement, because they had no extra money. Take a tiny portion of everyone's paycheck and put it into a bank so that when these people with nothing their whole lives retired.. Or could physically no longer work, they wouldn't be homeless or unable to eat/pay medical bills.
That's almost 30 years without any real way to "invest".
Obviously the program has it's flaws.. and will soon be non-existent.. But those that are now in their 70's-80's, depend on that money to survive. And, the amount that they receive did not keep up with inflation. Hence senior discounts.

Dude they were so mad! And I mentioned the charity work I’ve done and the money I donate, and this lady was like “you must have a degree in BS”. See this is why I don’t openly talk about the good things I do for this world because people just discredit it and don’t believe that someone who lacks empathy for people who have houses and can actually afford food can have empathy for people in unfortunate situations.

But example of discount at top notch restaurants is a bad example because it is UP to the owners.
It doesn’t affect economy.
There are bigger problems. But I don’t see it is getting attention. But one can bitch...🤷♀️

you're not a heartless monster, but you seem extremely privileged and ignorant of life. You also seem to have zero values and culture. Most society view the elderly with respect.

I love old ppl though.
I have no respect for vegans complaining of lack of options on a Denny’s menu.
They should cop the geriatric discount for us putting up with their demands.
I think if they paid their taxes and slogged their entire lives to make someone else rich, they should be entitled to something in return.
Demanding vegans are a completely different story.
