don't call people by their name?

Like EVER.

Even when dating or just texting a person, I always stick with "hey" When someone calls me by my name, it sounds so foreign and proper to me and I don't understand why they are using it. Like I'm in some type of trouble or something.

When having casual conversations, I will say your friend with the red car- even though I know their name.

At work, I just address the person I'm talking to by standing directly in front of them.

It seems like I'm being too personal and vulnerable by using an actual name, so I choose not to.

Is this weird?

Might be weird for those people that keep forgetting their name while having sex (the ones that keep asking... "what's my name?").

And you'll be like... "Hey!" ... "Hey!" .... Hey!" 😄

Why would people think using someone's name is intimate lol....?

Not intimate in a sexual way, just in a way that makes you warm, like you said, and it gives the illusion that I like the person more then I do. I like creating distance instead. I don't want a person getting too comfortable with me.

I've never liked names (not even mine) let alone calling someone their own name. Always get a cringey feeling when having to do that. Kind of like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard.

I feel it's a limitation, a label, an injustice to the limitless greatness that each one of us as a soul represents.

I'm good remembering faces though which comes in handy!

I was like this until I met someone who used my name and I like it when they do it but not anyone else lol

Lol I do that but not consciously. Sometimes I'm so into the habit that I get anxious that I somehow have mixed up their name or that I will mispronounce it... So then I completely avoid saying it.

I was once friends with this girl in high school for weeks, hanging out everyday, before I realized I actually had forgotten her name. 😬

I have gotten better since then but names are still tricky for me. I tend to remember random facts about people before I remember their name.

Yes! I can see exactly where you're coming from! I never use my name either, but i guess it would be pretty weird talking about myself in third person 😛

I love your explanation of what a name represents! In a sense, it really is a limitation and fitting someone inside of their own little box, maybe that could be another reason why I don't use them. It's restricting, with no sense of freedom. Great point, and thanks for making me think about this from this perspective.

I don't think its weird... i think there is a whole physiological strategy when using peoples names....

like you get lost and you need to call out their name... by that time your brain would have already registered the person's name otherwise you wouldn't be calling their name...

or you want to make someone feel closer to you or special... like when you need something and you look at a person's name tag and make the request more personal by adding in the name...

i think names are learned for the proper functioning of day to day activities.... so if that person's name is not required for your survival then your brain wont register their name. maybe that's an extreme example but i mean our brains can only hold so much information and we HAVE* to narrow things out to whatever helps us survive in our own* way. 🐣

This is why I don't like using names. I don't want the person feeling close to me.

Thanks for your thoughts on it. and yes it's true, I do have too much stored up top. So names aren't necessary for me, if I can shout out a "Hey you!" instead!

lol. I don't forget names, I just never use them.

But that is pretty funny. How'd you ask her name again? That must've been awkward.

perhaps our ancestors were so into names because it gave them a sense of trust in that if they knew your extended family and they were good then you were assumed to be good - but to me that usually brings along a sense of entitlement of the person who is asking like they want to know too much of my business and I'm a private person so there you have that - too many nosey people - just too many people here on earth has changed the societal norms

basically I'm saying that we no longer need to feel shame when we just can't remember it all and well, fuck um if they don't like you
