It's like that here too. I'm near the Kansas City area. The thing that really puzzles me it that *most* of the time the female is very unkept looking. Usually greasy hair and sloppily dressed and the male is usually a lot more flashy/clean then the female. They usually have about 4-5 kids hanging out of the shopping cart too.

I am at work and don't have the time to go into this topic in as much detail as it deserves b/c I have to be in a meeting in 10 minutes. So, for now, I will give the quick and dirty answer. The answer has been lightly touched on at the begining of this thread. It has to do with the self-hatred that has been ingrained within both Black men and Black women. Yes, it does go back to slavery and is still is apparent today.
I have to go into a meeting then I will get into this a little deeper. But for now I will leave you with this. At the beginning of the school year last year, I provided a few of my Black "at-risk" students with this and we had a discussion around this topic. It is the Willie Lynch letter. Some have argued the letters authenticity not get into that debate. Honestly, I do not know if the letter is real or a fake. What is significant about the letter is that it is most certainly an accurate reflection of what slavery did to the Black community and how it continues to manifest itself in 2009.

natural: It has to do with the self-hatred that has been ingrained within both Black men and Black women. Yes, it does go back to slavery and is still is apparent today.
I agree that slavery left marks on the black psyche -- just as the Trail Of Tears and other injustices done to Native Americans did damage that is still with them today, too.
But... all of the issues facing blacks today can't be laid entirely at the feet of whites who've been dead for over 100 years...

I am not saying that slavery is the SOLE reason for the condition of the Black community but it does contribute a great deal to it. In previous posts in this thread, I have stated that Black men and women sometimes help to confirm and perpetuate these derogatory images that slavery has created and mainstream White America continues project today. I am not suggesting that Blacks are compeltely innocent. Nor, am I on here to blame the woes of the Black community on "the man." However, I do feel that slavery is an intregal part and must be looked at in order to have an objective conversation about this issue.

I do admit it bothers me to see a brother with a white girl and thats just real...maybe its just the issue of dating outside our race..i'm just not for it
I think brothers choose the white girl because they are so submissive which is a negative to me
that mean she's dealing with anything he dishes out....i would rather for her to put up with it then me

no its not at all....black woman can be too picky...they can talk to much....i have seen some woman put their man (if they do have one) down entirely, low rate black men....they want to be the man and the woman in the relationship...
some of that comes from past relationships or part of their upbringing...
thats why i think with any race if you are having relationship problems...you need to check yourself

I chose not to put any effort or energy in matters that I have NO control over. What I do control is my life...with that said, I do what I feel like doing with whom I feel like doing it. I achieve success not for anybody else, but for myself, and I strive to be a better person everyday, and rest assured I am far from perfect!
And I also agree with you Ms.P that I've lived on the East Coast and West Coast, and I have seen beautiful/successful/affulent people with other beautiful/successful afflunet people too - some of mixed races, same races, and everything in between.

This is a MUCH shorter way of expressing the point I was trying to get across a few pages ago in this thread. I also was born on the east coast and now live on the west coast so I'm not tunnel visioned by the "Orange Curtain".

It appears to me that white people are perfectly fine with interracial dealings of the varying kinds of relationships that we have with black people, there doesn't appear to be any holding on to the stigma ....... white people really have no qualms if a black person becomes apart of our families.

The issue at least among Black women is that many times Black men feel that they have to "publically bad mouth" Black women in order to justify who they are dating. Which perpetuates the very ignorant types of stereotypes that you refered to earlier in the thread. Futhermore, Black men DO NOT have to justfy why they date who they date. All a man has to say (if questioned) is hey, I am with who I like. Instead, I have heard things such as; I do not date Black girls because I want a women whose hair stays straight or wavy when it gets wet. Or, I do not like the smell of a pressing comb (what many Black women use to straighten their hair). Or, the classic, Black women have attitudes. When I have heard these types of comments, yes, it gets under my skin. Sooner or later it not only makes a person resentful towards the person who is spouting and spreading the ridiculous ideologies and myths, but for somem, it can also make them grow to resent the entire issue (black men dating outside their ethnicity)

Black men also contribute to the hightest percentage of homicidal activity. Black women outnumber Black men who go to college. 3 to 1... 5 to 1 (actually graduating from college). So, when you take what is left..when there is already fewer Black men to begin with...it becomes to look challenging.

Also, most other ethnicity/cultures (i.e. Asian, Latino, Native America, Jewish, Middle Eastern) teach there men to marry a women who shares their ethnicity/culture/religion. Whether this be taught verbally or simply through action. Similarly, you see this with White men as well. Even if a parent does not flat out say, date someone from your own race, children immolate (in most cases) what they grow up around when they become adults. But not enough to make a dent in that 70% (the stat of Black women who are single). I have stated this earlier in the thread. Black women are programmed the same way??_.stand by and wait for your good Black man.
