With the knowledge of this happening? - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/07/climate/ipcc-climate-report-2040.html

To me people that still want to actively pursue have kids with the knowledge that this will happen 20 something years down the line are sick narcissists.

Why willingly bring a child into this world when having the knowledge of this happening?

To be clear, I am not talking about people that already have kids when this was made public knowledge by the United Nations.

Just the ones who still plan on having them despite knowing what is happening to the earth in 20 years.

I've never been more thankful that I opted out of having kids. It cost me some potential great relationships, but I feel vindicated that I stood my ground.

"exactly this. Same thing could have people said looong time ago when they would lose so many kids at young age from simplest things like fever, women would die giving birth, so many diseases and short lives... It was just as drastic to them back then...as time changes disasters have changed too. Different times bring different disasters but some people try to justify their choices with these stuff...if people thought like this since the begining of time we wouldn't exist now as species at all..."

So I am not talking about unplanned pregnancies, I am talking about people pursuing trying to have kids. Secondly, climate change wasnt a horrifying reality 100 to even 50 years ago like it is now.

Basically what I am saying is when you PLAN on having kids and succeed in doing so, you are setting them up for a short life the way world is going in 20 years

That is why I am so supportive of the space program. We need to find planets that we can live on. You read further research on climate change and it is terrifying.

The fact that the media doesnt do more coverage of this and rather report donald duck's latest and greatest is utterly depressing.

The 20th century has seen the Holocaust, Hiroshima, the Cold War resulting almost in total annihilation, etc. and people still had kids. Chill the fuq out and don't panic, seems like there have always been reasons not to have kids

People killing people is not in the same realm of the ecosystems which support life dying.

Hey, you gave it your all.

A full scale nuclear war that was just barely avoided not once but twice, is pretty much up there.

No need to get pissy, you don't need an excuse not to have kids. It ok !

This right here is the core of human stupidity my dear. The bold part. It's the mirror of how stupid internet scientists are who blindly believe whatever they are served with and refuse to fucking use a brain for a change! Oh we need to search for other planets you say? How about we grow a brain and awareness for a change and stop ruining the only one we have?! Ever stop to think about that? Ofc not cause you are exactly that-internet scientist. My hair rises when I read statements like this. Simply people, stop making fools of yourselves and use a brain for a change, it's not that hard. People are what's wrong with planet and people are who can save it. Instead they speak of pointless and senseless solutions that they can't find or at least not in their lifetime.

Also, according to your "smart" ass it's ok if you get knocked up because you're too stupid to use contraception but people who plan carefully, chose their mates and take care of their health are stupid for having a child.

Please stop with those statements, you're only embarrassing yourself.

you got mad with internet scientists saying we need to "find" planets to live (plural OMG) because we need to save this one instead?

but humanity know how to "save" this one, but not with big money involved, and the change it requires will piss of politicians, big farmers and vegans alike 😆 In fact if the theory is right, we could even turn every desert in a fertile area.

now the "scientifics" part, lmao, we know what planets is the most plausible to use, venus, and mars, but mars is so far away, and requires terraforming it

it amuses me the use of "search" or "find" like if we actually look for it, we're gonna see a planet just like earth right in the solar system, we just didn't search enough, lmao 😆

internet scientist.... that's funny

ahhh, goddamn I'm bored.

Someone is very pessimistic. We're in no shortage of humans but you do realize that the moment we as a collective species decide to have no more children, is the moment we give up our existence on this planet. This situation is depressing but there is still an ability to fix or least lessen the outcome. We need to get out shit together and soon. Instead of complaining why not make a difference, so the future children of this world will be able to grow up on the same Earth you did.

@gobby LMAO man I needed that

I get on here very infrequently so I am going to close this out with some final thoughts.

Being fair, the article I posted was speculatory. And in retrospect I should have posted articles I have read that support in fact what the original article stated.

This is not a pessimistic mindset. It is going to happen, people say it can be changed but at this point based on the stuff I have read from scientists it is too late.

Again I am going to clarify this one last time. I am not telling people who are already with child aka pregnant to get rid of their kids. What I am talking about are the people who plan to have children

And once they are shown the facts about the lifespan of the planet only having 20 something years left and it is not speculation yet they choose to have them after being aware the kid isnt going to live to 20 but still having them are to me selfish.

I believe in my every day life of keeping a positive/neutral (aka dont think good or bad) mentality. But when it comes to real world events or a major crisis that we need to be realistic and pragmatic. There are some things you have no control such as this situation and cant change.

And as frightening as that is,you need to learn to make peace with it. But people can do obviously what they want to do and stick to their beliefs like me

I am just stating my opinion. I plan to live out the remainder of my life childless. This situation is not the only reason I dont want to have kids as there are many others.
