Hello, I dream of ditching everyone and going on some nomadic travels some day. I feel one can learn so much about themselves on such journeys. Of course safety would be my biggest concern. I do like how no one thinks twice about bothering you when you're with a bunch of family or a male partner. That doesn't happen when you're alone and also small. If any of you ladies have traveled alone, please share your experiences! So far I've got Iceland on my list. I like warm countries the most. Not sure about how well safety is in Central and South America as well as Easten European countries.

Your husband won’t come with you?

More like I don't want him to come with me xD Kidding. We have our own big vacations together planned so I wouldn't go to any major countries alone that we'd both be interested in. Other than that he works a lot and likes to use the rest of his vacation time to rest at home. I on the other hand like to travel more frequently and have a more flexible schedule. I don't think he'd like me traveling alone but that's ok, I'll figure it out. I've always wanted to do something like this before I got married. I see it part of a spiritual journey. It needs to either happen now or when I'm in my 40s 😭

Read a Dervla Murphy book. That will blow your mind

You're a Kiwi?!? and you haven't travelled the world yet 😅 Get yourself down to flight centre (are they still going?) . You have easy access to Bali and the rest of Indonesia for a start. There's tons of independent female travellers, it won't be a problem

Will definitely look them up!

Lol I'm not a Kiwi person, I'm an American. I will definitely be visiting Bali and the rest of Indonesia one day but it's pretty far. I want to start somewhere closer first.

I was looking into going to Bali with my sister sometime this year or next. Is it really safe for solo female tourists?

Bali is super popular with solo female tourists! Go for it and get back to me on it!

You'll be fine especially in Iceland. Iceland is the safest country in the world. 😎

and the most expensive

Seriously, if you are on any kind of budget don't choose Northern Europe as your destination

Oh dang, I didn't realize to check how expensive it would be. I don't want my first solo trip to be too expensive and I like end up like crying in my hotel room or something you feel haha

I've been to Japan, South Korea and England alone. The only issued I had, was being stalked by 2 old men in Asia, but nothing happened in England.

I've learned a lot about myself by travelling alone though. Yes, I'll do it again in the future.

However, I suggest you to be careful about where you want to go, there are many dangerous countries in the world. No country is safe, but some are more dangerous than others.

Oo how were your experiences in each of those countries?! How long were you there for and what accommodations did you have? Did you travel between cities there? What are some things you learned about yourself by the end of the trips?

Hey! Female solo traveller here... I’ve travelled through Central Asia, canada (hitchhiking) and Central America solo. Totally understand that safety is your concern and I can only speak of my personal experience but I’ve had 0 bad experiences as a female solo traveller. However, I am vigilant and cautious. I wouldn’t just walk out and about in any place at certain hours of the day. I am in quite in touch with my intuition or “6th sense” which some may scoff at but I seriously think that it is, in part, what has helped me steer clear of certain people or scenarios.

Some of my most transformative and most liberating memories of my life came from those solo travels. There’s nothing like it! ❤️

I travel alone all the time. I just do it with common sense.

I don't close the bars down, I only go out to places in safe neighborhoods, I mind my drinks and how many I have.

I map out my whole trip and plan my days. They are filled with tours of beaches, museums, and landmarks.

Sometimes I even walk by bar in the day time so I can see what the surroundings look like because I won't be able to tell in the dark.

It's very easy for me to do. I go at my own pace, take naps in the middle of the day if I've had too much sun and am on my own time schedule because I don't have anyone else there to keep up with.

I eat lots of local food and find hole in the wall places that my travel friends would never go to because they would think they are too grimey.

I've even brought toothbrushes and school supplies to orphanages to pass time, visit the school/home and see the kids there.

The possibilities are endless when no one is relying on you or pulling you in different directions.

I think the kiwi fruit and word is cute 😁 And the first part is pretty self-explanatory 😇

I've traveled to other countries and continents, but always either with family or my husband. Never alone. Maybe I should go smaller and start with traveling solo to another state huh. I've always wanted a RV and travel interstate. But the issue with that is I don't like driving for extended amounts of time.

I traveled to Peru alone in my early 20s for around a month. But I went with other Americans (all strangers) in a group. Was a good time. All other international traveling I’ve done with friends and family.

So far I've got Iceland on my list. I like warm countries the most 🤔 ICE - land 🤣 it's not the warmest of places tbh

If you're brainstorming destinations and you don't want to spend too much then take Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden off your list if I were you. They're all in the top 10 most expensive countries in the world

If you haven't been then Costa Rica is very safe and stable and has amazing wildlife and is well set up for tourism. It's not cheap by C.America standards but it's still cheaper than US I believe

Lol GREENland is colder than ICE Land ok! Costa Rica's just a few hours away from me too! My dad recently went there and loved it. I wanna go to Spain too and Turkey. I've had layovers in Turkey but never got to explore the actual cities *cue colorful hot air balloons in the distance*

Hi! Wow, I'd love to hear some detailed experiences for each continent. Like how did you even hitchhike through Canada 😦 I would love to also read about how transformative you felt afterwards. I'm sure it was also all very empowering. I want to feel all that.

Travelled pretty much in all continents alone.

Could blend in quite well...

Only real problem that occured to me was a

man in Iran throwing rocks at me because I wasn't replying due having a headset on.

If it's your first solo trip alone maybe stick to the bigger cities and go not too remote.

What helped you blend in well? What kind of living accommodations did you have? And ugh can men ever stop being so sexist and weird.

Spain is a great country to go alone. People are really friendly. I especially love Barcelona but beware of pickpockets though. Turkey wouldn't be my first choice to go alone though.

Get a door lock from Amazon for hotel rooms while your sleeping.

Only travel with what you need. Stay light.

Pick hotels or stays in areas with things to do in walking distance or choose cities with great public transportation.

Wear shades

Always get a rental car that shows strength not no neon little car

Locate all exits

If this is your first solo trip, choose a destination where if things go bad you can walk home and not have to rely on air or swimming across oceans. If a war breaks out, aliens or pandemic, you’ll have an easier time getting home from Mexico than Europe, if y live in USA

Omg yes it's the last sentence that's literally everything. I want to be my own little explorer on my own accord. My dad and so many other male relatives from previous generations have these exotic, foreign travel stories. When you grow up hearing them, you just wait to get older to be able to make some of your own.

I also wonder how those who travel often fund them. Use the savings after quitting work and then get new jobs when they're done? Rich parents funded?

I feel the same way, I would travel alone if I felt that it was safe. Honestly I don’t feel that it’s safe though unfortunately.

Don't let safety concerns stop you

You live in USA. That's not a safe country by world standards

Other countries are a lot easier to navigate, there aren't guns etc. Not saying bad about the US but most other countries are a lot more traveller friendly so you won't feel unsafe

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Peace_Index

You're ranked just above Saudi Arabia and below South Africa 😂

Not only about guns though but women are abducted everyday and forced into sex trafficking. My state is third in rank with highest sex trafficking so I actually would prefer to have a gun for myself. Lol but even aside from gun violence, you hear about women disappearing off of cruise ships and vacations. Idk I’m the scary type I won’t do it lol

This is literally the main thing holding me back too. Not sure how to shake out of it. Especially when you'd have your family against the idea as well because of the safety concerns. I don't want to some day expire in this world unfulfilled in such a way :/ Must learning some jitsu become a prerequisite? 😒

Tempting, but ai still think it’s better to travel with your BFF (or even better, your gay male friend, if you have one).

It’s safer, cheaper (get to share the hotel room), have common memories to fall back on, and pictures taken by someone else are much better than selfies 🙂

Ugh I know but I legit want to experience no annoyance from anyone for once lol. Just left to my own thoughts and devices #lotsofaquasagenergy

It deeply upsets me how female solo traveling is still often taboo and frowned upon (singlehandedly cause of the unhinged male species being a threat to it).

You know pictures are the least of my concerns, I've come across so many solo travelers using tripods and remotes to capture amazing pictures.

"I've had my fun. I need a good man to settle down with. Don't waste my time."

Wtf you rambling about? I'm married. And unlike your disgusting hypocrite self, my husband and I BOTH saved ourselves for marriage. I can foresee your future spouse use you for money and pop out plenty of babies (future child supports) whilst sleeping with others on the side simply because of your one-sided mentality. You should be scared.

Case in point Afghanistan.

I don’t know who searches for Afghanistan on Expedia but yeah, stay light and always be ready to move on a moments notice

Keep granola bars on you at all times . Doesn’t hurt to have a water bottle that purifies water
