I find the recent fad of coloring books helps my mind shut off and to relax. That or reading is what helps stop over analyzing and the random thoughts.

Eckhart Tolle really likes to focus on this, try the "Power of Now". Basically its book that makes you feel so ridiculous for not being in control of your own thoughts that it shames you into it doing it. It's helpful.
