I half agree with you, as there is usually a 'limit' in woman's minds as to how much a man 'interacts' with other women.
A good random example is snogging. A man caught snogging a couple of women will already be condemned by other women in the vicinity. Not so much condemnation from men when it's women going around doing exactly the same thing.
I've experienced this just from dancing with women - at least half of the time, the women approached me to dance with them! So, now I'm a player for acquiescing their wishes?

That's why so many men have given up on dating. Men are vilified for doing this sort of thing but women aren't.
It heavily reminds me of clubbing or social events - a man can't be seen flirting or interacting with too many women or most of the women will perceive him as a player, as opposed to someone who's simply assessing his options (aka the princess complex).
However, women will freely flirt with as many men as they want, knowing full well that men will still consider them as desirable or 'fair game', due to the flawed assumption that 'real men' should be competitive.
