It seems like every time I try to set boundaries with my gem he feels like I'm being a bitch, and gets all salty, but then if I go to the nice route of just asking him to be nice, I get nothing out of him. I can't force him to put effort in and be present in the relationship, so what am I supposed to do? He's very closed off emotionally, even though he does fully trust me already and right now pretty distant all together. Other than ignoring him for a while and just seeing if he will give a shit after that, I've done everything that I could think of, and it doesn't work.
