Not gonna lie...

This is exactly the break I needed at the right time.

I hate my job and would rather not interact with my coworkers.

I told God That i needed a second away just to gather myself and being the Standup man that he is, he gave me 2 week paid vacation.

I've been enjoying myself immensly.

Earlier in the month... I had a feeling that plans would be changing and they did.

Lol at least you're making the best of it girl. When all of this is over, are you gonna go ahead and make that career change?

Been applying since 2018!!!

Still waiting on a great offer.

Getting my mind right has been priceless.

Did you see that they're starting to order shutdowns of religious services places too? Coronavirus is popping up in congregations.

God sure "works in mysterious ways." 😬

The Catholic church here suspended physical services more than a month ago. We have services still but online via youtube.

The churches of other denominations are still having physical church services.

When we started having the Covid-19 outbreak here, the biggest cluster was from a church here (I think it's Baptist, not sure). Apparently they had some visitors from Wuhan who interacted with the pastor, who in turn infected some of the other local churchgoers.

Last week our govt discovered that some Singaporeans (about 90+ of them) visited a religious event at mosque in KL. That event had 16,000 attendees. 5 out of the 90+ Singaporeans had the virus, and upon their return to Singapore, visited 10 mosques over here.

The Islamic authorities have since closed all mosques in Singapore for 10 days.

Congregations are one of the biggest spreaders of the virus, mostly because of the level of physical interaction.

I think the core motivation of it is twofold:

1. People do dumb things even when they have been told what will happen if they do the dumb thing. The whole thing might work without an offical shutdown if people just would stop doing dumb things.

2. To provide legal certainty, because that opens up additional routes for things like finance etc. like for an example for exhibitions. Once the goverment offically tells you you aren't allowed you are eligible to be compensated for it.

That's very true. I'm curious to see how it'll turn out for those countries who still allow their citizens to roam freely. I think the idea behind that is to develop herd immunity, but only time will tell.

My question to your 2nd thought would be, where is all that money coming from? Seems like even more strain on the economy.

In the case of my nation, Germany, it will be done by adding truly new debt for the first time in years

That's saddening 😢

Well I primarily wanted to point out how unfortunate it was that the religious communities are also being impacted by Coronavirus.

I also found it quite ironic that, while some people have been thankful for the positive things that have been happening (which are entirely great don't get me wrong), there are still god-loving members of the religious community that have also being negatively impacted by this. Hence my comment "God sure "works in mysterious ways"."

That's all. I mean no disrespect.

During the time that passed between my initial comment and now I have actually been looking to see if it was even constitutional for them to limit their right for assembly. Seems questionable.

Oh ok now I understand, just needed some context lol

I too was wondering if the government were violating people's rights, but apparently they can if they declare martial law? I feel like people would definitely protest if they declared it officially.

Technically yes, BUT due to the size & population of the US considered against the availability of military personnel, along with the fact that it's a quarantine issue, Martial Law is not realistically feasible.

Since the military would replace regular law enforcement they would be tasked with regular law enforcement jobs also. Not only that but you factor in that they would be risking bringing themselves into contamination further perpetuating the contamination cycle is not realistic to do.

That actually makes sense but logic doesn't seem to matter right now, some officials have been calling for military aid.

Aye. It goes beyond just breathing the air though.

Do you know how many hands go into that holy water? How about the donation plate? Kissing a religious leaders hand/ring? The religious text kept in the pew for people to use that don't have their own.

It's clearly not the most sanitary place on Earth, so it's not a total shock. I mean... I am Deist personally, so the closure of the church's is neither here nor there for me. At the same time I still have a respect for the people that are religious, and in their beliefs, so it is a bit disheartening to know that there are those who put so much faith in a God yet they're one of the biggest communities that is being impacted by the virus.

You know what would be hilarious if they tried to call a mandatory draft and martial law, lolol. That's probably the only way they can make it happen.

"Hey... you guys. Look... I know we're trying to keep you locked in your houses... And I know you're really pissed about that because we took away all your freedoms, but we kind of also need you to come outside to enlist in military training in order to help us keep people locked in their houses"

As I read that back that's totally something Trump would say on Twitter so who fkn knows, hahaha

I would be totally fine if I never had to go outside again, lol. I try to leave this house as little as possible anyway. I'm totally a hermit.

Meanwhile... have you seen the beaches in Florida? Damn fools they are. Hundreds and hundreds of fools laying out on the beach like nothing's going on in the world.

We're not new to stuff like this. The SARS outbreak in 2003-2004 was when the Catholic church first started putting in necessary precautions. But SARS wasn't so bad, we didn't have massive clusters coming from congregations.

The Catholic church already removed the holy water from the containers at the entrances of churches as soon as the first few cases of Covid-19 popped up. The Archbishop decided to suspend all physical services after the 5th (and biggest) cluster was reported from that Baptist church.

I'm not really bothered by the closure of physical services. We were taught from young that God is omnipresent. So worship doesn't have to take place in a physical church all the time.

I was wondering... why aren't people protesting or questioning the coronavirus lock down?? We are completely shutting down the ENTIRE country. A lot of people will lose jobs, a lot of small businesses will have to close their doors permanently. The economy will be devastated, possibly to the point of no return... We are taking such drastic measures for a virus that we really know nothing about.

Not to mention the government officials who are using this to push agendas and laws that are borderline authoritarian.

I think I also read something that there are calls for military intervention... would that mean we are officially 'unofficially' under martial law?

Something seems real sabotage-y and underhanded to me. Thoughts?

Is this a joke—?? Almost every country are either preparing for lockdown or have officially locked down. Do you actually think that it's a global "martial law"—— Is there even such thing—?

The reason for drastic measures is exactly what you said. A virus we know nothing about. Would you rather be infected and see for yourself before you start caring? Coz not everyone wants that.

There's military involved in countries kn lockdown. Why? Because of people like yourself for example, who don't take it seriously. It's very hard to trust that people will do the right thing such as self isolate or even declare the right travel history. Imagine exposing our medical practitioners to people who are dishonest and can lead to further infecting more people including health workers? Military is needed to keep everything in order so that medical practitioners can focus on their job. So that people don't go out in the street without a mask or more so, whilst being infected, don't infect other people. It's such a simple thing tbh. I dunno why there's even doubt about this. And if it's just your country utilising the military, maybe its OK to doubt the process. But you see, China, Korea, Italy for example, also Utilised their military to make sure everything is in order.

For once, its disappointing that people cannot follow simple instructions. It's upsetting for me as I am pregnant and high risk. Second, I have family and friends who are doctors and nurses out there risking their lives so we don't get infected. I don't want to risk getting the virus because I don't know how it will affect my unborn child. But it's annoying when people don't care about high risk people like us.

No not a joke... more like a thought.

A lot of countries are in lock down yes, but other countries allow their people to carry on with business as usual. I'm just wondering if carrying on business as usual would be the better plan and wanted to start a discussion about it.

Do you know me well enough to say I don't take the situation seriously or that I don't care about vulnerable people? The answer is no, you don't. I care deeply and feel vulnerable people should be protected, but I'm allowed to question things and have opposing point of views.

Anyways, stay safe out there.

My country hasn’t locked down yet, but I want them to.

Too many people can be affected. Just because you think you’re healthy, doesn’t mean someone you come in contact is.

Yea that's true, but a lot of decisions are being made off of what ifs. Maybe your country has the right approach by not shutting down it's whole economy?

I feel bad for people working in shops having to come in contact with all these panic buyers.

I’m on the vulnerable list so I don’t want to come in contact with anyone that just got off a plane.

I feel bad for them too, having to deal with all the hysterics.People who are vulnerable should definitely quarantine themselves.Be safe girl!

Here is where the problem lies. Some people who are vulnerable and/or already infected are not doing this. Apart from imposing fines/jailing them, there is little else anyone can do to assure this.

Also there is the problem of healthy carriers, i.e. people who have and show no symptoms and don't even know they're infected until they pass it to someone else who has a less robust immune system.

If the vulnerable people aren't quarantining themselves, then why should whole cities and nations be subject to lock down if the rules aren't going to be followed anyway?

Do you think it's possible that we can naturally develop immunity over time? It seems possible to me especially if there are carriers that don't have symptoms.

"Do you think it's possible that we can naturally develop immunity over time? It seems possible to me especially if there are carriers that don't have symptoms"

Please see for yourself and let us know how it goes. I personally don't wanna risk it.

This whole thing is a mess, I wonder how long people will be able to stay indoors before going completely stir crazy.

It all comes down to how many luxuries I think a person is used to.

What’s the likelihood that someone on that beach has the virus? Slim to none. Less than 1% of the population has the virus. Think it’s less than .05% worldwide.

How do you know for sure that it's slim to none? 75% sure? 100% sure? You're willing to risk it and let those chances put more strain on the healthcare system, as if it's already not under enough pressure?

Less than 1% of the population has the virus - that's less than 1% who got tested or were forced to get tested. You're not even accounting for those who might be infected but don't bother to get tested because they don't think they're sick.

Lol where were you even going with this comment? I feel like I missed it lol

They mentioned:"I told God That i needed a second away just to gather myself and being the Standup man that he is, he gave me 2 week paid vacation."

So I said:"Did you see that they're starting to order shutdowns of religious services places too? Coronavirus is popping up in congregations."

Nobody ever thinks they are the 1% until they're the 1% and that's exactly what makes the 1% so dangerous. We all think what are the odds it's going to happen to us, but at the end of the day it has to happen to somebody. So what are the odds someone there has it? About the same as you or I having it.

What you’re seeing is the expected response from governments and citizens alike. There’s nothing to analyze here, really. Do what needs to be done and watch it all unfold. Go easy on yourself and everyone else.

There’s plenty of good in this and the outcome will have many upsides. Worry and fear are present (right alongside their opposites, like always), but indulging in them is so unnecessary. The virus will do the work it needs to do and then disappear, or it will stick with us and we’ll find ways to adapt. Or whatever, really. What’s happening now is supposed to be happening, it can’t be any other way.

Find a way to enjoy the extended vacation.

I mean... Cholera and the Bubonic Plague are still around which were two of the most deadly outbreaks in human history. Sometimes some things just stick around.

There is inconvenience and there is death.

I choose inconvenience.

People should be protesting non essential business is still happening, tbh.

Do we really know if this virus is as deadly as it is made to seem? I just feel like we don't have enough info.

I can understand where you're coming from though.

Malaria kills 3,000 people every single day. Where’s the outrage over that? People are still allowed to enter those countries.

The flu and heart disease are major killers too, but we don't get a play by play about those.

To be fair the coronavirus is probably getting so much attention because there is no vaccine. But I also feel like it's being exploited to the nth degree.

You actually said it better than me lol.

Just an update on the church issue, the Anglican church here recently got its first case. They closed all doors on 14th March after one of their congregants was suspected of having Covid-19.

I think in Italy they've started fining people 200 Euros if they're caught going out or having unnecessary gatherings. The only exceptions are grocery shopping or getting medical supplies/seeking medical aid.

China has been arresting people who don't wear masks. Over here in Singapore they threw a couple in jail for falsely declaring their health status (turns out they did have Covid-19) and omitting information for contact tracing.

It's great to be optimistic, but I disagree and feel like there is plenty to analyze here. In my opinion, this virus is being exploited and used as a power grab, especially here in the states.

Even before the outbreak, people on one political side wanted an economic down fall in hopes to hurt the other side. There are also laws that are being passed that has absolutely nothing to do wit coronavirus relief. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I question things like that.

You forgot about Ebola. And MERS. And H1N1. All three are still around and just as deadly but only cos they're restricted to certain regions so no one cares and life goes on.

Meanwhile... have you seen the beaches in Florida? Damn fools they are. Hundreds and hundreds of fools laying out on the beach like nothing's going on in the world.

80% of people that are infected never know they’re infected. No symptoms

I'll wait. 🙂

Lol where were you even going with this comment? I feel like I missed it lol

They mentioned:"I told God That i needed a second away just to gather myself and being the Standup man that he is, he gave me 2 week paid vacation."

So I said:"Did you see that they're starting to order shutdowns of religious services places too? Coronavirus is popping up in congregations."

Because people like you want to “protest” measures to keep thousands of people from dying. The military won’t be needed if people act civilly and understand that no one wants to shut shit down for shits and giggles.

But how do you know thousands of people will die? We are going off of assumptions and what ifs.

I'm not saying the virus isn't dangerous and we should abandon all caution to the wind. I'm only asking is it so far fetched that the virus could be used as a weapon to create fear and panic? Can't fear be used, which is seen throughout history, to make people compliant?

Girl you sure are spicy... how do you know most of us aren't already infected?

Pardon me but I'm pregnant. If you're worried about inconvenience, I'm actually one of those inconvenienced by this. It's not just about the job now. It's the safety for me and the child I'm carrying. They released information about the symptoms. For one, that's a basic rule. Check it. Second, if you still don't have it, act like you do and continue with precautionary measures. I don't know how it helps to even ask "how do you know most of us aren't infected yet?"

I completely understand your position, I'm not saying don't be cautious.

But like I've been trying to say, there are countries that protect their vulnerable while allowing others to be free. And other countries that are locking down. Only time will tell which how each method plays out.

Trump said to stay home. Is that not good enough for you?

I mean... Cholera and the Bubonic Plague are still around which were two of the most deadly outbreaks in human history. Sometimes some things just stick around.

You forgot about Ebola. And MERS. And H1N1. All three are still around and just as deadly but only cos they're restricted to certain regions so no one cares and life goes on.

Aye. Essentially every fatal bacteria, virus, or disease to Humans other than Smallpox and Polio still exist somewhere in one fashion or another.

Italians are known to be kind people who likes to have fun and spend time with family and are fairly religious and traditional. Why would their government want to make them panic and force them to comply? And comply to what? Producing goods is China's biggest asset. Why would they destroy that? Italy's really big on tourism.

Magic. The answer to your question is magic. More specifically Sleight of Hand

In order to create illusions, magicians present one reality to their audience while concealing another that they are secretly performing actions that make their magic tricks work. They hide the method or mechanics of their tricks by combining two essential magic techniques.

The first is misdirection, focusing the audience’s attention on an object or action so nobody notices the other movement happening right before their eyes. The second is the sly physical manipulation of objects with imperceptible movements, commonly known as sleight of hand.

People are using the virus just like a magician uses a distraction. In the end both things are being accomplished, you just didn't notice one of them being done.

Lol where were you even going with this comment? I feel like I missed it lol

They mentioned:"I told God That i needed a second away just to gather myself and being the Standup man that he is, he gave me 2 week paid vacation."

So I said:"Did you see that they're starting to order shutdowns of religious services places too? Coronavirus is popping up in congregations."

How do you know it won't? Should we risk it? The entire Italy, on lockdown, with thousands infected and dead, is far fetched to create fear and panic to make people compliant? The thousands of people infected and dead in China is the same? Chinese people have already been compliant with their own government way before this. Italians are known to be kind people who likes to have fun and spend time with family and are fairly religious and traditional. Why would their government want to make them panic and force them to comply? And comply to what? Producing goods is China's biggest asset. Why would they destroy that? Italy's really big on tourism. Why would they close their country for that? What kind of conspiracy theory do you have?

I don't know and don't claim to know. I couldn't possibly tell you the motives of people, much less the motives of whole governments... there are laws that are being passed here that has nothing to do with coronavirus. An abortion clause was hidden in one of the coronavirus relief package. An official in Illinois has passed an ordinance that affects people's firearms freedom... that is not conspiracy.

Why push these agendas when we should be focused on helping the people?

What the fuck are you talking about?

They were trying to pass an abortion clause in one of the coronavirus relief package. A mayor in Illinois passed an emergency ordinance that affects people's gun rights. All of which can be easily researched if you really wanted to know instead of throwing insults.

Trump said to stay home. Is that not good enough for you?

Girl I like to think for myself and look at things from different perspectives. How about you?

I have the self-awareness and intelligence to know when a decision is above my paygrade.

You should also add passive aggressive to that list lol

I like to question things and will continue to do so.

No. I'm aggressive-aggressive. Please stay home and don't get old people infected, you stupid cow.

That's your government. definitely not ours. Not China's or South Korea's or Italy. Not others that I know of. Basically, you cannot generalise questioning the virus and how it affects people simply because your government is sneaking some unjustifiable law. For us here, for the other countries affected by this, it is bigger than politics. So I'd say maybe your post should have indicated specifically for the US. We won't question our side of the fence. We need order, we need quarantine, self isolation, we need what is being put in place now to help us all in surviving this. It did sound a bit offensive as you seem to generalise the virus and underlying motives when various countries have been working hard to get past this. Politics aside. For once, most of us want to follow rules, our government and do the thing we believe can help us all in the long run.

As someone that is high risk and that has family in Washington I am okay with the decision to lock down or shutter. Do I wonder about the what if’s? Of course, but I’d rather have a better chance of surviving than just embracing that so many will die.

I found out yesterday that my dad is sick, has been for a week, he hasn’t been tested yet- part from stubbornness, part from he hasn’t been in contact that can be proved. So they won’t.

I just am coming out of being sick with “something” they didn’t test me and I am high risk, what does that tell you? There isn’t enough to go around, there aren’t enough hospital beds, period.

I’m tired of the “this is minor” “this can’t be real” stance, it’s happening and it’s real. People are dying, even 1 death is too many.

But here's the catch: if we EVER relax suppression before a vaccine is administered to the entire population, COVID-19 comes right back and kills millions of Americans in a few months, the same as before.

This part can't be rushed: if you're going to inoculate all humans, you have to make absolutely sure the vaccine itself won't kill them. It probably won't, but you have to be sure.

Assuming the vaccine is safe and effective, it will still take several months to produce enough to inoculate the global population.

the first part is speculation, people could develop herd immunity and the virus spread would reduce significantly, that's a matter of time and will happen before a vaccine is ever finish, so far most people have become resistant to it, the biggest threat would be the virus mutating, but so far so good.

and no, we don't need nor will inoculate the global population, the vaccine is for people over 65 years mostly, and some special cases, the death rate for people under 20 is almost zero with hardly any complications, they are not the problem, except with spreading the damn thing.

also the reason scientist take so many precautions with vaccines is not so much if it kills someone, theres many ways to avoid that happening even with a general allergic reaction, but theres a big debate over our knowledge on ADE (antibody-dependent enhancement), if we distribute a vaccine that fools our immune system and the virus manage to use it against us, is game over for all.

everything else is correct.

What that means is I understand that you're an adult and I'm not here to make you do anything. I'm simply here to point out the fact that you are capable of having a civilized conversation without resorting to these words because I have seen you do it in the past.

now if you're having some problems understanding that still, well, that's on you and not me.

This discussion wasn't meant to downplay or claim that this virus isn't real. I was saying pages back that I really hope they are working on obtaining all the necessary medical equipment just in case they can't produce a vaccine or the warmer weather does not kill the virus.

Anyways, I really hope your dad pulls through and I'm glad you were able to pull through yourself.

Please stay home and don't get old people infected, you stupid cow.

lol lady you are salty and so triggered! You must be one of the susceptible ones, aren't you of that age?

No, bitch. And fuck you for trying to call me old.

You're better than this... Just saying. I can't stop you.. you're grown, but you are better than this

Better than what? No, I'm not. She needs to sit her stupid ass down.

I'm not going to argue with you. You are better than the word you were choosing to use to get your point across whether you want to be with me or not. I've seen you have a conversation before I know you're capable of better. Be better.

Who the fuck do you think you are now? I don't know you. Shut up.

The guy that's right that's why you're not arguing my point, haha

What point? That I am better than calling her a bitch? I'm obviously not. She's being a bitch, so I called her a bitch. Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch.

Also, a stupid as fuck bitch.

My bad I didn't realize you had tourette's.

As you were.

How are you part of this conversation now? Seriously? Why did you insert yourself into it and try to control my behavior? That is never happening. The very idea of a strange man on the internet trying to control my behavior...

I am insufferable although this is not about me, lol. It's simply a means to distract people from being an asshole to others, because I'd rather an asshole be an asshole to me since I'm an asshole myself in which case it won't hurt my feelings in the least than to be an asshole to somebody else.

😜
