"The original etiquette manuals of Western civilization were in fact success manuals. As author Steven Pinker notes, they taught knights and nobles how to conduct themselves in the court of the king—which is where we get the concepts of “courtly” and “courtesy.”

People still bring plants as a gift to parties?? I want a baby cactus.
They are nice.

I want air plants or a bonsai.
my bonsai lost all it's leaves! can't imagine anyone would want it at this time. in spring though maybe.

What kind is it? An evergreen wouldn't lose it's leaves in winter, so I'd likely go for one of those.

I can try, sure. 🙂 I'm not as knowledgable about trees as I'd like to be, even though I live surrounded by forest.

7. When you get to the front of the line at Starbucks SBUX -0.03% , don’t tell the barista to wait while you wrap up your phone discussion. The barista hates you, and so does everyone behind you. They are hoping the barista spits in your latte.

This.

I've actually not even greeted tables when they sit there on their phones. I approach them when they're done. "I was giving you time to finish your call!" (aka you're a dick and I'm not even going to attempt while you inconsiderately sit here on your phone). I've had people rudely hold up their finger and insist on continuing with their phone calls. I've proceeded to ignore them until they have some decency or were ready. Even then, if I'm in the middle of something when they're ready, they're going to have to wait. sorry assholes.

Self important twats...

It may be okay, if it's supposed to lose it's leaves. Some do, if they are deciduous trees, not evergreen. Well, as far as I know.

The soil looks a bit dry, though. If it is an evergreen it should keep it's leaves and maybe it isn't getting enough water or light or something.

I'm not sure what type it is, there are so many.

The page below has many pictures of different types.

You might try sending that picture to a company that sells bonsai to ask. They probably could identify it quickly.

Or someone here may know.

I think I'd care less how people behave in Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. Most of the time I'm not even awake yet when I'm in there to care about surrounding humanity.

I did totally post this for that "don't break up over text/don't say that your relative died over text" point tho lol

Dear, rudely talking on your phone when it's your turn to take your order, making EVERYONE wait on you, is a total twat thing to do, regardless of where you are.

People are so self important that they're insanely inconsiderate toward others in the process. THAT is an ongoing problem. If you "don't care" about that so much, then you're guilty of the same thing too.

Being guilty of it is actually doing it. Not caring about it is a different matter entirely, though I apologize if my post deeply offends you or something

"If you come late to an exercise class, don’t think you’re entitled to barge your way to your favorite spot in the front. And don’t block others from weight racks or other equipment—just step back three feet and make everyone happy."

I usually take a spot at the front of the class for Zumba, but one day I was running late and missed the first routine. I entered the room and took a spot in the back. After a routine, the girl in the front turned to me and asked if I wanted my spot back up in the front, and I declined, telling here it was alright and that I would be in the third row that day. I didn't realize that that was the proper etiquette as my initial thought was to take a spot in the front row because I like full view of the mirrors. But, now Forbes is telling me I did the right thing. *pats self on back*

"Don’t lend someone a book or item unless they specifically ask for it. They’re probably too busy to ever get around to it. They’ll feel guilty about that, and you’ll be annoyed that they didn’t appreciate it or even get around to returning it."

THIS. There's a older co-worker who INSISTS on forcing books/DVDs on me, and then following up on how I liked them relentlessly days later. I have gone from politely thanking him, to then trying to explain that I don't have time for them. He strikes me as arrogant and dismissive. I have reached a point where I do not care anymore and either blatantly reject his offer or flatly tell him that I have been very busy and have not gotten to them yet. He even tried to force his musical program on me because he thought "it will be good memories." I responded, "maybe if I had gone to see the musical myself it would! Why don't you keep it, instead?" He told me it wasn't an original or he would have. I ended up tossing it in the recycle bin in the office.
