I have to disagree with you all. A better idea would be to learn how to control your emotions. The person saying 'go kill yourself' has control over you because you let them. Low emotional intelligence is probably the biggest weakness you can have in a civilized world from an evolution stand point.
I'm not against emotions. I'm just saying that if you're really on the verge of killing yourself because of what someone said over the internet, then you're the one with a problem, and you need to seek help. And I also think people should be able to say whatever they want.

that is not the whole point though. there are people on here who are mentally unstable, who are already in deep depression or for whatever other reasons have hit rock bottom and they don't need much to tilt them off. telling somebody you have no clue about to go "kill yourself" can make the already existing problems bigger.
now, i know dxp is not a place to seek help from in regards of depression or other mental problems; it's clearly not a therapy session - but it does not have to be a place to make you feel shittier about yourself either.
i??ve seen four people use this frequently
clueless cancer
carlos (mainly in response to CC)
scorchedearth
and purrrhisss (mainly in response to attacks from scorchedearth)
those are the ones i know about, because twice i was told to go and kill myself by two different individuals from that list (CC and scorchedearth) - i am sure there are others express that phrase on here too.
i will report such behaviour from now on.

I think it's kind of hilarious how some people expect people to be very considerate to them and that they should be gentle and sweet and polite, when they trample over other people at the same time and don't care beyond anything except their own frustration or anger.

I see it all the time. People continuously behave in the same manner that they criticize. It only bothers them when they are the target.

For the most part, I have no problem with most behavior on this forum, except for people telling someone to kill themselves. It hasn't been said to me.
I wasn't sure if you meant that as a statement in general or to the creater of the thread.

On Reddit, though, you can get a lot of karma just by posting nudes. *laughs*

I am offended by this behavior. I read people posting this to other users a lot lately and not only is it unecessary, but it is also crass and rude, making the one who posts it look like an illiterate, boorish ass who doesn't know how to communicate their thoughts in a presentable, logical way.
Yall need to think before you post something like that. What if the person you said it to was depressed and that just pushed them over the edge and they actually did it? How would you feel then?
Yes, this is the internet, and you may or may not be serious when you write this statement. You may be making a ill conceived "joke", however you have NO IDEA the mental state of the person you are talking to.
So, please refrain from saying this statement.
Thank you for your consideration.

I don't see that here at all...but don't mind me I'm lost in space today lol.
The whole reason it escalated was because people couldn't handle being the recipient of something they were doing themselves.click to expand

Let Duncan decide what breaks the Terms & Conditions.
PM him the thread or PM that needs his/her attention. Duncan decides.
The best thing to protect yourself is to not engage with people who will not do you good. For your own sanity, don't get involved with people who you can't tolerate. It stops the cycle and there's no back and forth.

FFS!! This thread is turning out to be one of the infamous seraph "sacred trust liberal b.s. antics. How many posts of whines later and I'm suppose to worry about what particular behaviors YOU have a problem with? I've seen you chant on some pretty nasty behavior... The only serious cyber bullying I've seen on this site is directed at CluelessCancer, and she takes it on the chin like a champ. The rest of you need to walk it off.

I don't think anyone expects that; I don't.
I think people object to posters suggesting that one should kill himself, as the title says.

Yeah but at the same time, wouldn't we want the anti-thought police to be universal? Is by doing nothing about it and not addressing it just allowing it to be ok?
This is how she feels. And it looks like other people feel the same way.

Great post.
I couldn't imagine why someone *wouldn't* respond to this with resounding agreement. Well, actually
I could, but I'm hoping that the usual DXP clientele is more sophisticated and in possession of enough discernment and good taste to *just know*.
Some things just need to be said, and you've posted a good reminder. It's unfortunate that not everyone can or is willing to draw the line somewhere, because "it's just the internet." This excuse - to use the internet as a thoughtless form of escapism where all is permitted without regard to consequences, might have been acceptable in 1998 or whatnot, but today it's as real and meaningful as any other means of daily communication, and *living space* that we share with others.click to expand

Suit yourself.
It isn't against the rules for you to be wrong. 🙂
And hypocrisy *does* abound--
But the ones who expect to be treated better than they treat others are typically the same ones that suggest others kill themselves.
Well, that was kind of my original point.click to expand

That aside, websites like this just don't work that way.
If they did, they wouldn't get the traffic needed to stay around.
That's not how this works....When people post threads and comments, it takes up bandwidth. I think every website created gets a certain amount of free bandwidth, but when more people start visiting, more bandwidth is being used. When that happens, the site creator has to pay for more bandwidth. That's why he put ads up. It's so people on here click on them so the ad companies will pay him, and he can then put that money into the bandwidth charge. He's keeping this site alive for you guys not the other way around.click to expand

Example :: If you want a bully to stop bullying, do you address the whole school or do you address the bully?
Raising awareness goes only so far imo.

I'm a little preoccupied at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to read through the thread. So I just wanted to interject my thoughts into the discussion. While I am against censoring free speech, many of these comments from different posters can serve their interests of derailing a thread, because the thread will be deleted instead of dealing with the individual who said the comments in the first place. So instead of the individual who made the remarks being held accountable. The creator of the thread is punished, as well as all the posters on the thread. So a open and honest discussion can go for naught, because of the actions of one individual.

lol okay
But I don't think this thread or its participants are hypocrites-- you're making it sound like they (we) are.
This issue is not black & white.
For example: You can tell me to get fucked, you can tell me I'm wrong, you can call me anything you like--
I really, really like to argue.
(And if you get to that point, you've already lost, anyway.)
But I draw the line at people telling other people to kill themselves--
Or that you hope they are stabbed to death-- or that they are going to kill you themselves, if you continue to respond.

I'm useless as the quote function so I'm just gonna say in reference to the two links....wow.
As far as I'm concerned it's incredibly poor taste and speaks volumes about the person uttering it.
The way she said it isn't threatening in the least. That gemini girl was definitely instigating it as was desperado and canceronthecusp.click to expand

People can say what they want. Yes, they have free speech. But with free speech comes responsibility.
What if you tell someone to kill themselves and then they actually do it? Because what you said was the final straw for that person and their self esteem is so low, even though they've already been getting help, they are in just the right mental state at that moment in time, they are at their lowest and your words pushed them over the edge. You wouldn't care?
You think we don't have a moral obligation in our words?
