That's fucked.

Move it off the road and onto grass so it doesn't get repeatedly run over. See if it has a collar. Check if it's breathing cuz might be just hit.

I work at a wildlife rehab and a lot of times the hit just shocks animals and stubs them.

You must have stopped or slowed down once hit.
Feck no, Im not touching that thing!
Ewww!! I get creeped out around the dead.

It was dead as dead could be, believe me.

I saw a dog get killed on the highway before, i was about 7 yo. It was on the back of some guys truck and it jumped out.or got thrown out. Got hit and thrown around by several cars. It was horrific. Scarred me for life.

I really don't get why you didn't pull over and take the cat and put it away from the road.

Other cars will run over it until it's a meat paste. And maybe someone who drives that direction sees it and swerves into the opposing lane.

I mean I get it just jumped into the street but to not stop afterwards is irresponsible driver behavior and zero compassion for its corpse.

I did stop, to see if.it was dead.or alive. I couldn't touch it though. Dead bodies creep me out.
Just checked on it a lil bit ago, it was still there as I last saw it, it should be gone by now.

it's too bad you weren't there at the time, with all your answers.

OP, don't let it get to you. It was an accident, and it's quite common. Cats and cars don't mix well. I know a guy who had 3 outdoor cats, and all of them were killed by cars (at different times). I wouldn't have cats outdoors because they can't really be trained like dogs can. So it's not your fault

I didn't say it was her fault for hitting the cat. Maybe reading comprehension is not your strong suit.

I've been in cars with people and they did hit animals without meaning to. They stopped and took them off the road. Probably would've done the same without my presence and my answers.

Some people just don't have that in them ok and have a phobia about touching things that are dead, if I didnt, I would have moved it. It couldve had a disease too, i dont know where that cat has been. If I didn't give a shit at all, I would've just.gone home without giving it another thought. The cat got picked up.

I understood what you said.

Was just replying to gengbenghiskhan, who seemed to think I was blaming you for hitting a cat that jumped at you.

I'm sorry, OP, it's a sucky feeling.

Maybe this will make you laugh. It's the first time I ever ran over an animal. I was new to driving and getting some practice in, my boyfriend let me drive, and it was night. We were in a rural area on a straight stretch of road. Everyone, my bf, my parents, etc, had always grilled it into me that if an animal runs out in front of your car you don't swerve to miss it because people have run off the road and flipped, hit electric poles, and basically crashed because they over react and lose control. So, this fluffy skunk starts to waddle across the road from the passenger side. My mind is panicking about what to do about this, and all I could think was "don't swerve don't swerve, DONT SWERVE!!"......so I didn't. I kept driving straight aaaaaannnnnnndddddd I hit the skunk. 😢 😱

The stench was awful, and the bf was having a fit. "Why did you hit the skunk??!!" Me "You said to never swerve." Him "But you had plenty of room to avoid it!" ~hangs head in shame~

maybe it's not yours. I told her it wasn't her fault in the context of the fact that cats risk being run over if they're let outside, not in response to you. 2 posts in 1. all I was trying to say to you was that judging is futile. sometimes people panic, or have difficulty touching the gory aftermath. I wouldn't be able to handle dragging a corpse off the road either. I'd prob have called Animal Control or something.

I agree on judging is futile but the OP made a topic about it.

I would not have stopped on the street to jump on her car to explain my views on how this should have been managed, but I am doing it here in a topic about it, in case it happens again or other people see it and think more about their actions, disgust or not. Animal Control would have worked if she was grossed out. That is a good suggestion, no one would have come here to manage it so we rely on one another to not let dead animals in the street be stomped into the ground til they are part of the road.

Greentea.....didn't you swerve to miss that cat? Were you perhaps chemically impaired or sleep deprived that your reactions were not up to par?
Get an Acura - they handle like I dream. I swerve to miss squirrels and rabbits all the time. One day while driving up north (northern WI), out of the corner of my eye I saw a deer running at full speed across a field directly at a 90 degree angle to the highway I was on, coming towards me. I saw it at the last moment, slowed a bit, he made it in front of my car, but got nailed straight on by a van coming the other way. He kind of got clipped a bit - that damn thing went straight up in the air about 15 feet, went over my car and landed in back of me. Blood drops on the windshield. I thought for sure it was dead on the spot, but after struggling to it's feet, it got up and ran back into the field the way it came. I'm pretty sure it was dead on it's feet, because deer will run for a couple hundred yards even when they are shot.
No wasn't impaired, had a glass of wine hours before making sweet love to my Scorpio. I have a BMW, they handle pretty well. I would've tried to swerve hitting it, but I literally had half a second to react, that's how close it was. It was like, the cat timed it just right.

I felt terrible about it, because I really could have avoided hitting it if my brain had been working, and the bf's car reeked for weeks, but in retrospect it was pretty funny.....except for the dead skunk.

Sucks that it was someones pet. I'd blame myself if my dog got hit by a car though unless the driver swerved to hit him.
I'm not sure if it belongs to anyone, I just see it around my neighborhood a lot, I see some kids holding and playing with it too, it didn't have a collar either so I can't notify anyone. I don't want to be known as a cat killer by the kids either. Damn... 😢

Poor Kitty. Went up to Kitty heaven. I would just go up to the door and talk to the adults in the house and confess what had happened. It may not be easy to do. But once you do, you may feel just a little better. Hope that helps?
I probably would if it had a tag on it, but.don't knkw if it belonged to anyone. I only see neighborhood kids play with it. I don't knkw if I'd have the heart going up to the kids and telling them what I did. They might cry. I was thinking of getting a new one with the same colors (I think they'll notice though) if they start asking about it, but so far no inquiries.
