you can ban guns all you'd like. they will just use knives. ban knives, they'll use hammers. ban hammers, they'll use rocks. etc. guns are not the problem. psychopaths are. a murderer will always find ways to murder.

True but a knife won’t kill 16 people in seconds

a bomb will. even more carnage and covers more ground.

making a bomb requires skill, something those dumbdumbs don't have

even the dumbest person who follows instructions can make a bomb.

So I guess I need to reconsider wanting to be president someday because I might get assassinated for being a good president too huh..

And how come I can retaliate back and talk to all you sassy females on here without swearing?

Am I really getting to all y'all like that?

Guns are both good and bad, depending on who is holding it.

You put it like a true American. Not that different than... "Murder is both good and bad, depending on who you're killing." It's ok the kill even innocent women and children - to bomb them into million of pieces "just to send a message..." That would only be bad (outrageous even) - if the tables would turn (if you'd get a taste if your own medicine).

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/06/04/american-cult-bombing-and-endless-war

"From Syria to Yemen in the Middle East, Libya to Somalia in Africa, Afghanistan to Pakistan in South Asia, an American aerial curtain has descended across a huge swath of the planet. Its stated purpose: combatting terrorism. Its primary method: constant surveillance and bombing -- and yet more bombing. Its political benefit: minimizing the number of U.S. “boots on the ground” and so American casualties in the never-ending war on terror, as well as any public outcry about Washington’s many conflicts. Its economic benefit: plenty of high-profit business for weapons makers for whom the president can now declare a national security emergency whenever he likes and so sell their warplanes and munitions to preferred dictatorships in the Middle East (no congressional approval required). Its reality for various foreign peoples: a steady diet of “Made in USA” bombs and missiles bursting here, there, and everywhere.

Think of all this as a cult of bombing on a global scale. America’s wars are increasingly waged from the air, not on the ground, a reality that makes the prospect of ending them ever more daunting. The question is: What’s driving this process?

For many of America’s decision-makers, air power has clearly become something of an abstraction. After all, except for the 9/11 attacks by those four hijacked commercial airliners, Americans haven’t been the target of such strikes since World War II. On Washington’s battlefields across the Greater Middle East and northern Africa, air power is always almost literally a one-way affair. There are no enemy air forces or significant air defenses. The skies are the exclusive property of the U.S. Air Force (and allied air forces), which means that we’re no longer talking about “war” in the normal sense. No wonder Washington policymakers and military officials see it as our strong suit, our asymmetrical advantage, our way of settling scores with evildoers, real and imagined.

Bombs away!

In a bizarre fashion, you might even say that, in the twenty-first century, the bomb and missile count replaced the Vietnam-era body count as a metric of (false) progress. Using data supplied by the U.S. military, the Council on Foreign Relations estimated that the U.S. dropped at least 26,172 bombs in seven countries in 2016, the bulk of them in Iraq and Syria. Against Raqqa alone, ISIS’s “capital,” the U.S. and its allies dropped more than 20,000 bombs in 2017, reducing that provincial Syrian city to literal rubble. Combined with artillery fire, the bombing of Raqqa killed more than 1,600 civilians, according to Amnesty International."

Horrible analogy

Well... it's not that uncommon for unscrupulous people to justify any kind of malice - if that works in their favor (as the saying goes "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"). At least for the time being (i keep hearing of people who changed their mind - after a family member end-up among the victims of a shooting).

How many innocent people died - for every civilian that used his weapon in self defense? 1000 to 1? 10.000 to 1? 100.000 to 1? 1.000.000 to 1? if you're to be honest... do you even care (or more like... fuck them)?! Even if millions die - as longs as you get to keep your precious toy - you seem to be more than ok with that (same goes for every weapon supporter). As mentioned in above parentheses... maybe if one day - you'll get a call from the police about your son being involved in a shooting (maybe just playing with a friend like they do it in the movies - after all "weapons are cool" ) - you might reconsider. Since then - this issue would hit close to home (unless they're affect directly - some people will never learn any better... or care).

Lol @ you.

I’ve had 3 really good friends die from gun related injuries. I saw countless people shot in Afghanistan.

Never once did I blame the gun.

I would however like to see arrests made having to do with anything ARMED get an automatic death penalty. That should make people think twice before pulling a trigger

The only guy i know - whom went as a soldier in Afghanistan... came back with PTSD after witnessing those type of horrors... I guess murder is not for everyone (while for others is like a walk in the park). It is with what it is, after all... even psychopaths have a place in this world - as long as their functional members of a given society. Tho, to bad for Americans - that most of them love guns and are whiling to risk, accept and justify any amount of deaths - as long as they get to keep them.

I get that guns don't work on their own - but they're the easiest and most comfortable option to hurt others (even feeling "cool" about it - a common attitude among most of this shooters). And this guys would do it - even if there was a death penalty (since many of those - actually had that in mind... to kill themselves after committing the deed). Same goes for children "that play with guns (since they were just playing pretend - it's not like they intended to shot their best friend)".

I’m glad that you feel comfortable enough to judge those who lay their lives on the line while sitting on your privileged ass eating Cheetos

You talk like you did that for me or for a just cause. Maybe you had that in mind when you joined (thinking you're doing it for the country ) - but let's faces it... you did it simply becasue a higher up gave you and order. If a higher up - gives you the order to slaughter civilians all you can do is obey or risk court martial. As pointed out in the first response to this topic - many Americans did just that (but this time from distance - just bombing those places without risking anything). You may look in the mirror and see a hero - but objectively speaking - if you were also involved in murdering civilians that makes you a murderer. What can i say - it's both a gift and curse... being able to judge (think). You may be luckier for having a simple mind - that's mainly capable of obeying orders. Right or wrong, immoral or not - that's for someone else to judge... you just did what you were told with a clear conscience (does seem to be missing).

"How about we treat every young man who wants to buy a gun like every woman who wants to get an abortion...

mandatory 48 hour waiting period

Lets close down all but one gun shop in every state and make him travel hundreds of miles, take time off from work, and stay overnight in a strange town to get a gun. Make him walk through a gauntlet of people who were shot to death, people who call him a murderer and beg him not to buy a gun."

I've seen a few men walking around during the big gun shows here in Texas. Even if you could implement ALL of those things, that's not going to stop them....

Some of those guys, the way they walk around with their disarmed firearm looking for accessories and cheap ammunition, they scare the hell out of me and I've been playing with guns since the age of seven. 😳

Her point completely went over your head 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

She's not suggesting we actually do this. She's highlighting the hypocrisy in how our society treats men vs woman as well as our collective societal "outrage" when it comes to a fetus vs. a human outside of the womb.

A country built on violence. A country that strong arms the world with violence. A country that deals arms to the world and incites wars. A country who stands by and justifies the violent colonization of the world; is a country who pays the price.

If you think these shootings have anything to do with mental health or gun laws, I'm going to disagree.

This is something that is ingrained in our culture. These shooting are products of the society that we have all contributed to. Most of the young people in this country have never been alive when we werent at war with someone. When we werent allowing the media to brainwash our mentality into believing how we operate is okay.

This land is soaked in blood. The amount of blood on our hands is atrocious.

It is way beyond surface level. It is beyond lawmakers. It is beyond what can be articulated.

It will not stop either. It is who we are. We are all guilty.

These shootings are very American. It is us.

I have observed that many of the mass shootings are being conducted by white boys < 25 years of age.

I understand that "mental" health is always one of the symptoms mentioned for these shootings, which is kind of ridiculous because many people have mental health problems in America, actually probably the majority, but 99% aren't going around mass shooting people.

I notice though "rejection" seems to always be a symptom.

Maybe America should put tax dollars into helping these young white boys get "sex" and "comfort" from prostitutes like they do in Japan

i think more sex and affection (even if bought) would lessen this

Make prostitution legal in the US.

This is the solution.

As an outsider I can say I genuinely have reached the point where I don't care. 🤷🏾‍♂️

You wanna end the shootings? Ban guns. Its real simple.

If you're protesting about keeping the gun then you really are fine living in that situation.

It's no question that it's the guns. Mental health issues are a poor excuse because it presupposes that it's considerably higher in the U.S. than other countries which isn't remotely true.

Lets close down all but one gun shop in every state and make him travel hundreds of miles, take time off from work, and stay overnight in a strange town to get a gun. Make him walk through a gauntlet of people who were shot to death, people who call him a murderer and beg him not to buy a gun."

-Gloria Steinem

Purchasing a gun hardly equates to murdering a fetus. This is pretty extreme IMO.

It also has nothing to do with gender discrimination. Women all over the planet (and here in the US) own firearms.

I do however really hope they do something to keep the mentally ill from being able to buy guns. I would agree to a psychologist exam before being able to buy a gun.

Again, all you're really saying is l:

"tough shit that they died, don't take my guns away because I didn't do anything wrong"

I wish this much passion was put into outlawing cars because of drunk drivers

They should and would have, if there were better transportation options, but there aren't

cause car makers need money!

everything is based on GREED in AMERICA

there definitely should be a way to ban people from owning vehicles if they ever had a DUI

I've had a DWI. I no longer drink and drive. People make mistakes.

Sorry..

But I'm NOT in favor of banning guns. Ever.

I'm not against common sense though. There should be restrictions and laws in place, just like with owning and operating a motor vehicle.

Common sense would be not to sell weapons capable of killing 100 people in under a minute.

Amen to this 🙏🏼

And that's all it takes......common sense, not rocket science...

And?

and if it's within our power to demand change of something, we should demand it.

nobody needs a gun

but people use Cars to get to jobs.

I've lived in some rough places.

If someone is breaking into my home, do you think the police are going to get there in time to stop them from possibly hurting/killing me?

Nope. But a shotgun will when they come through my door.

The people asking/demanding to have the guns removed from the population of the United States currently are 150 years too late and will need to wait at least another 150 years or more to get the ones in the system out.

Go after all the ammunition and you can cut that time probably 90% .

But what do I know? I've only been shooting guns since the age of seven. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

pretty sure the problem started during the cold war, I mean, is not like I'd that scared of someone carrying a musket or anything like that lmao.

You've never shot a musket then. They may not have the range but they do have the accuracy and they go in messy and come out even messier. I'd rather get shot by the .223 caliber.

Anything launched via powder charge is a deadly weapon. Anything.

indeed I haven't, but is not only about the range or accuracy, but the reload time, if he miss the first shot, I have a good chance to just leave, can't do mass murder with those things.... unless you're the Brits, but lets ignore history for a while there 😅

anyway, for that, I think the biggest problem for the US gun laws came during the cold war.

Well I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with one of the most arch enemies of dxpnet history dazed. If my life is in jeapordy you can bet your ass ima pull out my rifle and shoot that mutha fucker. I will kill your asses if paths are crossed.

Guns should not be in the wrong hands of people that's out to kill for no known reason.

And I for one are against banning guns. Guns can also protect you and your loved ones.

As much as I'm anti Trump I can actually agree with him on one thing. Automatic death penalty for terrorists.

Now that's my intake on this.

I blame all this on our fucked up in the head president Donald Trump.

See, I told y'all geminis makes bad presidents.

there was hope with JFK

though i agree Robert would have been wayyyy better

You know I have heard on multiple occasions that JFK was a good president but he was before my time. So in my book he doesn't count. All other Gemini presidents proceeding him were all bad presidents.
