beautifuldiaster, loose leaf tea may sound intimating and a lot of work but let me tell you that is not the case. It takes the same amount of time to make tea with loose leaf as compared to a tea bag. In addition to so, you get more tea for value with loose leaf, as opposed to tea bags for they often weigh much less.

What exactly would you like to know about loose leaf tea? 🙂

Just good old turkish coffee and that's more or less it as far as my coffee goes.

As for tea.. I'm really starting to fancy cool ginger tea. And not just for health benefits, I actually love the taste. So fresh. Like breathing in cool winter air. I'm gonna try and mix it up with lotus roots today. Help my lungs out a bit.

Also, I really wanna try pine needles tea. Can't figure out how to post pics yet but it looks lovely.

beautifuldiaster,

To begin, there are White, Green, Black, Oolong, Pu-erh, Flavoured, Herbal and De-caffeinated Teas.

- Are you looking for something with caffeine or without caffeine?

- Do you tend to like your drinks with an intense flavour or something lighter?

- Any particular types of flavours you tend to favour - such as fruity, herbal, malty, grassy?

- Are you looking for a hot tea or an iced tea?

- Would you like to get any particular health benefits from your tea?

Once we figure out the tea for you, then we could go unto the ways in which you brew it. 🙂

In regards to the temperature, the general rule goes as so.

Black Tea: aprox. 95 degrees C / 205 degrees F for 3 - 5 minutes.

Oolong / White Tea: aprox. 85 degrees C / 185 degrees F for 3 - 4 minutes.

Green / Yellow Tea: aprox. 80 degrees C / 176 degrees F for 2 - 3 minutes.

Herbal / Tisanes Tea: aprox. 100 degrees C / 212 degrees F for 5 - 15 minutes.

There are many ways in which you could sweeten tea, I personally tend to use various types of cane sugars or honey though I do not often use it. The following three honeys are most versatile in matching most teas without altering the flavour profile; Acacia Honey, Clover Honey, or Orange Blossom Honey. However, it could get more complex, think of it as how one matches foods to wines. Another important point, if you choose to use honey, it would be best advised to let your cup of tea cool down slightly before sweeten. By doing so we do not destroy all the nutrient goodness naturally found in the honey itself. If you have any questions in regards to that, I would try my best to answer them.

Theatrum, a Ginger Lemongrass Tea is quite delicious as well or another suggested combination would be a Lemon and Ginger Infusion.

The links don't work. If interested, head over to the sites and just search for the product(s) with the search box they provide.
seraph, do you drink Yin Zhen tea? If you do, have you tried anything of note which you would recommend.
Yeah, you can get a decent silver needle anywhere. Teavana, for example (US chain, but we have them up here as well) stocks it regularly. You can always order from overseas, if you like. Teaspring.com usually has quality stuff.

In terms of white tea in general, Bai Mu Dan is perfect for summer. It's light and flavourful, easy to make, and even takes well to higher temperatures and longer brewing times.

Hmm, personally I have not had Bai Mu Dan in quite some time. I shall have a look into it. Thank you seraph.
