What if you were the captain of a gated community neighborhood watch where the community had constant crime. You go out one night for milk and you find someone who you don't recognize as being apart of the community there. You call law enforcement while you're following the individual in your car, but you stop following after being requested to. After you get out of your car, what would you do? I would think i would start off by saying something along the lines of what are you doing here? because trayvon might know someone in the community. Then how does that go from a simple inquiry go to a gun shot. It is suspected Trayvon didn't know Zimmerman had a gun because it was legally concealed. Would trayvon or anyone react the way he did with a gun holstered in plain sight or even drawn? Was Trayvon attacked or attacking?

There is no evidence that he was playing Batman.

Emotions and Speculations are NOT facts in the eyes of the Law.
There is a lot of evidence that supports Zimmerman's story. IF you're objectively basing your opinion on
what evidence the Prosecution has presented to the Jury, then I think the Prosecution has failed to prove it's case.
On the other hand, IF the Jury decides that emotions and speculations are factual evidence, then, it would be lawful to go around killing everyone because emotion, and not rationale, is the law of the land.

The only thing that can be proven is that when someone is screaming for you to stop they are conceding defeat. If you continue you are no longer standing your ground. Luckily this isn't in debate as Trayvon only had damage to his knuckle...indicating that he had done all the punching.

we don't know what,if any, words were said, but we do know zimmerman was following him(as did trayvon) & jumped out of his car to approach trayvon..and that course of conduct alone could easily annoy, threaten, intimidate, alarm, or put a person in fear of their safety

it's proven that he called the police because he felt trayvon was "suspicious",its proven that he was told not to follow him and let the real police deal with the situation, its proven that zimmerman wasn't in any immediate danger during the phone call either..so in other words,he provoked & harrassed the victim..

Ok, so...Martinez shot Trayvon because an altercation occurred and he was getting beat up.

My issue is still *why* there was a fight at all. Why didn't Martinez let the cops handle the situation? Why did someone need to die?

People are looking at this like it's a "stand your ground" issue, and it's not. I'm sorry.
No one approached Martinez's home or vehicle. He left his vehicle and pursued/approached the victim.

People get in fights all the time...but you can't just go around shooting people. :/
If people wanna bitch and cry about having gun rights, then don't be careless fucking apes with them!

If people don't see the fine line this issue is balancing on, then shits about to get a lot worse for everyone. If Zimmerman was right to shoot Trayvon...then that basically means that any licensed gun owner can approach someone on the street, start an altercation, and then shoot them, claiming "self defense."

I was there when the riots broke out in LA.
I drove (18 wheeler) tractor-trailer trucks, hauling freight, cross country, all over the US.
We had a load out of Secaucus, New Jersey for LA when the riots broke out. The terminal manager told
us to "be careful". Our dispatcher reminded us to be extra vigilant and would re-direct if necessary.
In those days, we didn't have cell-phones. We couldn't just pick up the phone like people do, today.
My co-driver was scared. He lived in the area. He was black.

I am just trying to sort through the maze of all the media spin and gossip and BS.
Unfortunately, the media is the source for most all the news - a double edged sword.

Nevertheless, my intent is to find the truth of the matter based on evidence.
It is tragic what happened to Trayvon Martin.
As for Zimmerman, was he acting in self-defense or was he as the Prosecutors case described?
According to the evidence and witnesses, I've seen, thus far, Zimmerman has a pretty solid stack of
evidence, eyewitness testimony, expert testimony, that supports his side of the story.

It is pretty hard to argue with concrete.

The above exchange of ideas and opinions is an illustrious example of what happens when people are thinking in emotional terms, rather than rational terms.
Briana, it's NOT "Martinez" it's "Zimmerman"
Care enough about the FACTS before you expose yourself as being complacent enough to not even
bother getting the Defendant's name right. Mind you, this incident occurred over a year ago.

Again, it does NOT matter if Zimmerman was armed: He was exercising his Constitutional Right. A right all Americans have (unless those who have committed a crime that takes away that right)
It does NOT matter if he followed Martin. There is no law against it. So that argument is a dead horse.

Trayvon should have just gone home, but he chose not to.
That evens out the "Zimmerman should have stayed in his car, but he chose not to" argument.
So.... that argument is moot and pointless.

I am from Florida...I knew of this case when it happened...this isn't "news" to me...I am simply participating in what seems to be the hottest topic on DXP as a distraction from my exciting weekend of life-consuming senior project. *shrugs*

I don't talk about this in RL because I am tired of hearing about it - which is probably why you sense a bit of emotion in my post - it's more frustration than anything else.

Ok, thank you. I apologize but please understand that I am taking this case very seriously.
From the standpoint of many perspectives. Not just one.
The reason why is because I see a problem and I had been attempting identify the problem more
clearly. Why? Well, it's because I believe that maybe some day, I can do or say something that
can help resolve a world of hurt.

This is NOT an isolated observational examination of this particular court case.
To try to illustrate a difficult thing to describe, An artist sees the big picture and it
is a VERY BIG picture. In fact, the picture is NOT a still shot, but rather, like a film.
It's dynamic.
I am looking at actual case details, trying to remain objective. At the same time, I am
looking at the American society. Observing It's behavior, recalling history, considering
psychology on a personal, local, state, and national level - all walks of life, all races,
ethnicities, etc. etc. At the same time, I am looking at it's laws and consider the human condition.

Fact of the matter is, no matter how compelling the evidence might be that George Zimmerman
is 100% Innocent of premeditated murder, racial and criminal profiling, not all people are not
going to accept it.

This is such a sticky case in that it is one that illustrates that for every argument, there is a counter-argument. (For every action, there's a reaction)
How this became an issue of race on George Zimmerman's part, doesn't make sense to me based on the
evidence, provided.
Just because someone says it was racially motivated, doesn't make it so in light of the facts.

Jose Baez didn't think this case should have gone to trial. As do a number of others.

What I think we are witnessing is a situation that falls under political pressure - This NOT the first
killing involving two people of different color. -
When Zimmerman was released it was because of they didn't have substantial evidence to conclude that
Zimmerman murdered Martin. Per Zimmerman's story and the evidence available to them, plus this "Stand Your Ground" law, they couldn't retain him. Apparently, it may have been the first time that such a scenario occurred in which the right Civil Rights attorney (Crump) was consulted and he had connections that would go all the way to the top. The White House. We then hear of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the NAACP getting involved and a special prosecutor designated to investigate the matter further.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Let's remember that when Trayvon Martin was killed, Barack Obama was campaigning for his second term. It's an election year.

It is now being discussed by Zimmerman's Attorney, Mark O'Mara. Benjamin Crump's legal partner and a few others on both sides as well as Legal experts on various panels on the major news networks and no
doubt a number radio stations and other communications venues.

The question Mark O'Mara appears to be asking, is whether or not Zimmerman's Civil Rights were violated by the state and the US Government. Maybe Crump, as well.

This is a very significant question that may contain some serious scandals all the way up to the White
House which "could" lead to Barack Obama to step down IF there is evidence that show that he, himself
had appeared partial and biased. - Very serious stuff.

As for the verdict, it has yet to be handed down as of this post.
Anybody's guess. 2nd Degree? Manslaughter? 2nd deg. may be not guilty, manslaughter
stands a better chance. Not guilty on both counts?
All female Jury it could come back as a hung jury as some had speculated.

Suspicions are mounting of something a LOT bigger going on here, than meets the eye.
Along the lines of "Civil Rights Violations" that imply the Federal Government may
have violated George Zimmerman's Civil Rights.
Though I picked up on a few soundbytes, I have now heard this concept a bit more from
Defense Counsel Mark O'Mara and Ben Crump. There IS dispute. I think it has some
very serious implications in which it is possible, that such conduct could be scandalous
and the "potential" repercussions such that "could", in turn, erupt into actions on the
part of the people that "could" escalate into Second US Civil War.
A war of classes and a war of races. "A Nation Fed Up With Itself".
(Extreme speculation? Perhaps, but before 9/11, nobody believed me when I said the
US was at war.) This is very serious.

Well, the idea, as I am understanding it is that while Sanford police did not think there was sufficient evidence to arrest Zimmerman to begin with, Civil Rights Atty Crump (an emerging civil rights law superstar) thought otherwise, whom I "think" contacted the NAACP who, in turn,
pressured the Justice Department, who directed an investigation which caused this case to come to trial. Based on the "presumption" that Zimmerman engaged in racial profiling. Also, there is
"Criminal Profiling" that may be in the mix somewhere.

With that in mind, the way that all sounds Racial and Criminal Profiling laws seems to say that
we are not to identify anyone who is killing our neighbor when we call the police. Nor can we
tell the police what the killers are doing.
It's probably not ok to call the police to talk about the weather, either.

Personal opinion:
There are sooooo many loose ends in this case as well as sooooo many loose ends

Generally, you have to tap into a variety of sources to triangulate the truth.
There ARE fringe segments in each race in US society that skirt the edge of the law of peaciblness
in their activities. Like it or not, many white people resent the NAACP. Can't change that as
long as the NAACP appears disingenuous to white issues.
In media, we don't see the same kind of coverage of similar outrages also perpetrated against white people. Trust me, there IS discrimination against whites as well as blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Native American. You hardly ever hear about the three latter. Most people don't know that Gov. has
reduced medical service facilities due to "budget cuts" and now the disabled, sick and elderly have
to drive 200 miles to see a heart doctor. Serious problems on the Rez.

That was an analogy of what they would call legal "Suspicious Person" report.

The more I look at what's going on, on the whole - In the US it, seems that the laws are
conflicting with each other in a tragic comedy way.

Imagine:
Motorist runs a red light -
cop pursues and stops motorist and begins to cite him for running a red light.
No problem with that.
Motorist tells the officer that the officer stopped him because he was black.
It was night time.

that's where the hang-up I am having with Zimmerman being called a racist and was profiling.

I don't talk about this in RL because I am tired of hearing about it - which is probably why you sense a bit of emotion in my post - it's more frustration than anything else.



Ok, thank you. I apologize but please understand that I am taking this case very seriously.
From the standpoint of many perspectives. Not just one.
The reason why is because I see a problem and I had been attempting identify the problem more
clearly. Why? Well, it's because I believe that maybe some day, I can do or say something that
can help resolve a world of hurt.

This is NOT an isolated observational examination of this particular court case.
To try to illustrate a difficult thing to describe, An artist sees the big picture and it
is a VERY BIG picture. In fact, the picture is NOT a still shot, but rather, like a film.
It's dynamic.
I am looking at actual case details, trying to remain objective. At the same time, I am
looking at the American society. Observing It's behavior, recalling history, considering
psychology on a personal, local, state, and national level - all walks of life, all races,
ethnicities, etc. etc. At the same time, I am looking at it's laws and consider the human condition.

Fact of the matter is, no matter how compelling the evidence might be that George Zimmerman
is 100% Innocent of premeditated murder, racial and criminal profiling, not all people are not
going to accept it.

Yeah I get what your saying...and I agree - they're out of their minds charging him with premeditated murder.

I never thought he was guilty of murder...only that he acted extremely carelessly with a firearm, which resulted in the loss of someone's life. That is manslaughter.

& yeah basically, if Trayvon were white, or Zimmerman black, we wouldn't be hearing about it at all.
That's as real as it gets. If you don't think so, pay attention.

The jury at George Zimmerman's murder trial were told about his rejection letter from a Virginia police department, his course work for a class that discussed self-defense laws, and his application to do a police ride-along, Judge Debra Nelson ruled Wednesday.

"The testimony is substantive," Nelson said, overruling an objection by Zimmerman's lawyer.


Assistant State Attorney Richard Mantei said the records show Zimmerman had a continuous interest in becoming a police officer, understood police techniques, and understood criminal investigations.

Nothing emotional about these facts...it's pretty obvious this guy knew EXACTLY what he was doing

at 1st,i thought he should just get charged with manslaughter,but he clearly deserves the 2nd degree murder charge..i see why zimmerman's lawyer wanted this info thrown out,lol

I look at this case as two people (not a black kid shot by a white man) as everyone else should.
That's how I come to the conclusion I have. Making it a racial issue is not even productive.

On another note...I didn't even know people still used the word "cracker" lmao
& it kind of offends me that when that girl testified and said Trayvon called Zimmerman that everyone said she only said it because she was "young and emotional"

Had it been a different scenario...like someone testifying Zimmerman had used a similar racial slur for Trayvon...there would have been a fucking riot.

I'm sorry if you took what I said as some kind of attempt at racially one upping?

I just think it's sad how this case, and others like it, ends up being justification for racist bullshit on both sides. I don't understand why it always has to go there. Why can't it just be one person shot by another, you know?

I'm white though, so as I've been told a million times probably I wouldn't understand.
