I agree that we use them more online. Same as emojis and exclamation points. They stand in for body language. I would prefer to err on the side of looking like a doofus than making someone feel slighted, so sometimes I overdo it on purpose.

I assume you mean in person, in real life situations.
This may be because these ‘people’ are using these ‘meaningful words’ a lot more loosely than you choose too. Which could come from lack of experience, knowledge, or moral value. OR they can just be one of those people that follow the suit with the masses that use such words in more of like a slang type of way😕
It takes a slight mastery to get to the point in your life when you’ll learn to ignore irrelevant statements; and be able to read what they’re really trying to say....if they even know.

Why would "wow" seem fake? People use it as a source of surprise or like they can't believe something- Especially if you have a smart mouth or are slick with words, I can see someone saying that word a lot.
And you said you don't like them, they sound phony and annoying, so it comes down to you not liking someone saying these words directed towards you, then right?
