I was discussing this with my roommate earlier today in the morning and we are quite happy with this

Sad

Why is it sad that I feel like I am on par with non law abiding citizens in my own safety of my life, home, and family

So much for your rights all of them have boundaries

You can’t go around yelling I’m going to kill you and claim free speech

So I feel these same boundaries should exist with these weapons that do mass killing

Apples and oranges.

Abolishing slavery meant very little for personal safety, taking guns away on the other hand has a direct effect on a person's ability to defend themselves, family, property.

So while with slavery we can talk of a positive effect that almost everyone can get on board with, with gun laws there will always be people who (fairly rightfully) opine that taking away guns only benefits the criminals.

Don’t go to China. They’ll detain you for months just because you are American. Especially me, they hate Chinese Americans with a fiery passion

Why?

China currently despises America because of Trump. My brother had a tough time when he had a layover there

Was this recently? As in last few months?

If so, Canada detained a Huawei executive, high ranking which means connected to the CCP based on US warrant.

Chinese see this as meddling and have engaged in a tit for tat thing themselves.

You don’t need the magazines that kill 50 in one second to defend yourself

A regular old gun will do

No it won’t. Have you ever actually been shot at. It’s not pleasant and an old gun would be less reliable and probably obsolete in performance

Before I reached 22, I have been,

1) Shot at twice

2) Home has been broken into twice as well

3) held at gunpoint 3 times, of which, 1 was in an execution position

4) Watched my uncle get gun downed by mistaken identity from gangs at 7 yrs old

5) Watched another uncle get pulled into our house with a gunshot wound to his left abdomen because he was mugged when I was 11 yrs old

If only they were able to protect themselves. All of this was done by people with no regards to following the law clearly

That's a fairly simplistic view of it.

Brazil also has very strict gun laws.. an the highest murder rates in the world. They actually reversed some of the gun policies and are seeing improvements.

I dont think its a simplistic view, if anything its condensed into an easy to process thought that allows passing info without walls of text. Additionally that is the number one reason for the discrepancy of murder rates between Mexico and the US while accounting for the ease of access to weapons or lack there of.

Brazil also doesnt have full control over its territory, except over there its not so much the out of sight wilderness but the problem is in the favelas (slums) into which cops enter in APC convoys only. But again, when they leave....

But since were on the guns, Mexico and problems to get it there issue.....The ATF from good ole USA is a supplier. When Eric Holder was the administrator....

I have a lot of immigrant Mexican friends and they tell me Mexico is extremely corrupted with the law enforcement. Bribery is easy and for some American dollars, you can get away with A LOT of stuff that would put you in prison for life. Also is it true that cops pull you over to just steal your stuff??

Idk....dont have Mexican friends.

What i wrote is a consequence of following events vaguely for years.

Also, i watched Narcos Mexico, that alone makes me the expert! 😎😂

btw.... China does have equivalents to FB, Youtube, look up weibo (that might be google equivalent am not sure anymore) or we-chat.

But they do have it for sure because the CCP wants to keep their people up to date with trends so they dont have reasons to leave. Grass os greeer on the other side and all that.

The added benefit of a home grown app service like Fb for example is also that the CCP has full control and oversight over it and it functions as a sensor and propaganda tool.

Then again FB is notorious for peddling one and the same view and deleting and banning those who disagree. Not so different than in China.

Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws, yet 5 times the murder rate of the US..

Someone needs to tell those people they're breaking the law, they probably just arent aware.

Mexico is also a place in which the government has no control over vast swathes of the country, well at least until they send in the army. But the army leaves and its back to business as usual.

!!!! Thank you for your voice of objectivity

Yup they use weibo, youku (I think that’s the name), and a few others I forgot what was called but they are monitored by CCP. They crack down heavily on social rights activists. I’ve seen some videos of men and women trying to spread awareness outside to the US but it gets pulled off fast. I wish I remembered what video I watched so I could tag it here.

What country are you from? I thought you lived in Mexico lol

It's pretty simplistic. 97% of the US is rural. Like Mexico and Brazil you cannot get all the guns away from people when there are places to hide. Cant and wont happen. No law will change that, especially now with 3D printing and the resurrection of homemade guns. You can see the same on the micro level with states and cities; states and cities with strict gun laws usually have a high number of gun crimes. Because a criminal is a mindset, not an object. What sets a criminal apart from a good guy? They both have guns. Is it that one carries a Glock and the other a Smith & Wesson? No, it's their mindset!

Yes, fast and furious was a debacle. What was labeled as a dye test for drug cartels, didnt pan out. However, there is only 1 gun store in all of Mexico, and the Fast and Furious campaign was only around 2000 guns (there are more than 2000 guns in Chicago alone. A gun free city) the vast majority of guns are smuggled in from the US via immigrants.

We can leave out the corruption of government and how the gun laws foster corruption in government.

I really love when people who are pro-ban say "pro-gun people just want it to be like the wild west" when in fact gun bans have been common since the early 1800s and some of the most notorious killings happened in those times.

Gun violence is a symptom of a larger issue.

You are comparing the lawlessness of Latin America with actual fear of cops in the US through an argument that everything is mostly rural and so things are the same.

It just doesnt work like that. To the best of my knowledge in no city in the US police has to enter burroughs, hoods in a convoy of APC's.

SWAT teams do use them but its usually a single vehicle per operation.

Tldr; i think you could find a better example of how strict gun laws dont bring about an eradication of gun related crime.

No, I'm saying you cannot have law-lessnes without enacting a Law for people to violate.. if there is no law against something it's just "lessness".. and "lessness" isnt a crime.

And I'm saying, just like every other ban that has occurred in the history of bans - it will just move underground.

1st paragraph: i feel youre getting too much into semantics, i could easily replace "lawlessness" with idk "favela chaos" or "anarchy".

It would still mean the same to me and probably to others that have had some aquaintance with the subject of crime in Latin America but you couldn't make the same point out of it. Am actually curious how your reply would look then.

I agree with the second paragraph.

Anyhow, the tldr segment in my last post is what i wanted to tell to you.

The rest of this debate smells of epeening and i dont like dicks. 😀
