Because in theory you shoudn't care...he texted you first right?
So let's say you mention it and act needy...he will know you care, wish makes his insecure self feel good.
If he acts like this often...i would say with 99% certitude it's intentional.
Now if you say something that doesnt require an answer, it's ok. Make sure to ask a question next time you text...and see if he responds
