quick question....

do you guys have a habit of buying stuff and not using them...??

this is how one of my closet is looking right now...everything you see here except for the stuff on the shelf belong to him (the sag).

we both have two closets each (one for clothes, one for everything else....small items etc)

both his closets are full so he was like "lemme put some of my shit in yours" and i said sure....not really knowing he was gonna take over like 75 percent of my closet...lol

he buys stuff and forgets about 'em. most of these he bought 6-7 months ago.

the caps still have like those crumpled papers in 'em so i know he probably hasn't worn them....i don't even know what's in the white paper bag...

anyhow this is what my closet look like right now....and i guess i wanna know is this common behavior for sagittarius ?

i'm not selling his shit lol 😂 that's a crime lol 😂

he just needs to start being more selective when he shops 'cause it just keeps piling up like crazy and not to mention it's wasteful to buy something and not use it.

@Capriquarius

yeah i think the sag also had a couple of gifts that he got that he stuffed somewhere in his closet too lol those things will probably never see daylight again 😂

@CuddleBug1288

a triple sag! nice 😎lol the short attention span thing might have something to do with his buying/forgetting habit lol he's a scorpio moon and he's usually on the ball and at the top of his game with everything but once in a while he goes and does the clumsiest shit and will have you rolling on the floor lol 😂

@PuzzlePieces

i think i might be that dude you're talking about that hangs his t-shirts 😂😂

i stay within my space tho...lol i hang them up 'cause i don't want them to get wrinkled 'cause then i gotta iron them and shit lol😂😂 i'm sorry your ex took over the rooms and closets lol i can definitely see an aries doing that too lol

@Hypnotoad

😂😂

@Capriquarius

his family wasn't rich when he was a kid as far as i know but he was already in the process of building his business when i met him 9 years ago so i don't think he was that deprived (?) after he turned 20 but he occasionally was doing the buying & forgetting thing back then too 😂

@DMV

my bad 😂i thought lick meant hitting a lick like when you come up on easy money by robbing someone 😂 i see what you mean now.

he probably won't get robbed 'cause he's not wearing any of it lol 😂

@Gobbie

his moon is scorpio and mars is sagittarius.

his buying & forgetting habit is occasional. for example, he'll buy something in january and not buy anything until july. he just tends to not use the things that he buys so it piles up lol it's extremely wasteful. i've only seen him use one-third of the items he's bought.

@Gobbie

i was reading some articles on Mars in sagittarius males and it all sorta made sense.

apparently they can be impractical, impulsive, spontaneous, reason and logic aren’t really their strongest suits, they might want something one day and not want it the next, doesn’t learn from past mistakes...lol

i asked him what he wants to do with the unopened purchases in the closet and he said he'll send them to his cousins back home 'cause he doesn't want them...

i'm actually not surprised 'cause he literally showed no interest in that stuff for 6-7 months so i'm super happy that they will now go to someone who will appreciate it...! 😆😆😆

i also told him to wait a week before he buys anything and if after thinking about it for a week, he still wants it, then he can buy it. i was searching online and apparently this method of waiting and reflecting is effective for impulsive shoppers.

@Capriquarius

😢

yeah i heard it's common for people who were deprived as kids to try and make up for that period in their lives as adults. i'm not sure if that's what's happening with the sag... from the looks of it, it doesn't seem like it...? but i dunno) his behavior is still kinda worrying...

is your dad still doing the collecting/hoarding thing or has he recovered from that...?

yeah they seem to have a difficult time throwing things out too...

you're an amazing friend for cleaning out her microwave 😂

i don't like having too much stuff in my surroundings either....i work from home most of the time so i can't have any distractions around me

@LadyNeptune

that's cool that she came to her senses and made drastic changes to improve her life style ! i'm definitely seeing a lot of people turning to that zen, minimalist life lol

My Saggie bestie has the most clothes I ever seen lol but it’s all pretty much second hand. She’s actually great at budgeting!!! Much better than I am. She sets her goals and reaches them.

Now my Cancer friend who’s married to my Gemini bestie….. she’s pretty bad at spending. However I think it has a lot to do with how people are brought up. Some people grew up with nothing so they feel this need to almost hoard. She’s a kleptomaniac too.

we're in a relationship so that's why we live under the same roof lol have been for many years lol sorry for the confusion... lol

it's not just designer he buys and forgets. he has bought t-shirts from H&M that he doesn't wear and many other stuff lol they're in his closet. he's an entrepreneur so he's doing pretty good financially. i was in gucci with him when he bought them...lol i don't know about the bally one tho...😬

@AbbyNormal

i hear second hand shops have pretty decent stuff...!

you're right, people who grew up feeling deprived as children tend to try and make up for that as adults.

@Capriquarius

oh, i see....😢

that could be a problem. maybe you could try getting someone from the outside to come in and help your parents (like a social worker or somebody) is that possible...? 'cause they might listen to a professional from outside of the family...

Yes! Hoarding stuff he doesn't need after succumbing to an urge to steal is another possibility!!

It reminds me of a character from the lovely BBC murder mystery "The pact". She was a respectable, but kleptomaniac woman, hoarding all the stolen goods at home, unpacked. She was ashamed and never used the goods, but couldn't stop. Her bad habit proved eventually useful when her friends in (other type of) crime found out and arranged to bulk sell the stuff to some crook, to raise money for a ransom.

Oh, I see....Well, you need to get a bigger place, then! So he could transform a whole bedroom into a storage room. No need for a cupboard there, or for you to ever enter and see the horror 😄

I'm a daughter of hoarders.....My dad loved shopping for clothes more than a female influencer, lol. And my mum collects clothes and never throws anything away. Over the decades, their apartment was transformed into a warehouse with little room left for living. I get claustrophobia each time I visit.

we definitely need a bigger place. in fact, he needs to buy a whole damn island🌴🌴 to store all of his crap lol

...or he could just get his shit together and stop buying things he doesn't use lol probably easier lol

i'm actually surprised to learn that there are many people dealing with this...(even on this thread alone, there are two people, including you who have a family member with this tendency). i didn't know it was this common...

i totally understand the claustrophobia thing...i feel like they could benefit from an intervention from a social worker type of person that could possibly come in and help sort out their life.

Based on his unpacked items, I don't think he is a hoarder, more likely a shopping addict. Hoarders get attached to their possessions, need to see them to feel good, and could never part with them without considerable pain.

Shopping addicts on the other hand, are not attached to their possessions. For them, it the act of searching, selecting, imagining wearing them in an wonderful scenario and finally, buying them that makes them feel good. When they end up with too many items they don't even wear, they feel ashamed and even hate those items. However, the more expensive the item, the more difficult to give it away for free it will be.

None of these are easy. Hoarding, as a mental disorder, is probably more difficult to stop. The only way to stop the shopping addiction, is for him to stop entering physical or online shops for weeks or months at a time. Otherwise he will eventually succumb to temptation to buy. replace shopping with a new hobby that is not addictive. This could be something for you two to discuss. Like any addict, he KNOWS he's got a problem, but will refuse to admit it until you spell it out to him, clearly and firmly.

If he can afford to buy these things, it’s hard to bring the matter up. Now invading your space is another thing. I’m guilty of saying yes to my boo over things like this, but I think it’s more important to lay down your boundaries and support them in finding a solution to their problem. In his case, he needs to either rent out a storage space or y’all should get a bigger house.

@Capriquarius

ohh you guys are trying to sell the house? in that case, maybe hire a professional housecleaning service to come in or have a real estate agent come in and talk to your parents about how they're kinda putting themselves at a disadvantage by not having the house in tip-top shape for all the buyers out there...they might listen to a real estate agent.

also is your house in a good location? (like, in a nice neighborhood with grocery stores, schools, shops, restaurants, banks etc in close proximity?) that will certainly help too.

@Undine

you're right. he's not attached to his purchases at all. he barely even looks at some of the stuff. never seen him organizing his things in the closet.

i wrote on the previous page too but he has agreed to send his unopened purchases to his cousins back home so i feel good about that. and like i mentioned, he's not constantly buying things every other week thankfully. for example, he'll buy something in january and not buy anything until july. but it still piles up 'cause he buys like 3-4 items at once and doesn't use them . (he uses only one-third of his purchases)

i told him to wait and ponder for a week before he buys anything, that way, there will be less impulsive purchases.

he doesn't shop online thankfully lol he's the type of dude that needs to actually SEE and TOUCH before he buys

not sure if he feels ashamed of his habit but he probably does secretly have thoughts like "why did i even buy this"

he just won't say it out loud lol

@AbbyNormal

yeah exactly, i can't be all up in his face about this 'cause it's his money at the end of the day and he's gonna do whatever he wants with it. i can't control him. but he has agreed to send the stuff in my closet to his cousins back home, since he won't be using any of them. so that's at least a step in the right direction...lol 😁
