I remember my Aquarian friend repeating over and over that I was not a typical Scorpio and that she thought I was more like a Libra. Which is funny because I have Libra Ascendant and I didn't know about birth charts in those days.
Now I think I give off three vibes depending on the situation. And I am Scorpio, Leo and Libra dominant.

The Sun is the core of our being - while the ASC reflects the outer layer. Unless the Sun is tied to the ASC (the conjunction - in particular), the people we encounter - might need some time in our company - till they'll be able to perceive the nature of our Sun. Or, until we let them in. The house where the Sun falls - is also important, cause that's where the Sun shines the brightest - where it's more revealing. The Sun, is what one would call - the inner child (our inner Ego). It's what grows... what lights our path through life (when it's shining). It's our source of love... our source of creativity and happiness (in what way... that's what's defined by our Sun). While the ASC - is our outer-shell, our persona - our alter Ego. It can take the role of a Friend (even an Enemy - at times when we fight with our selves), of an Adviser (that voice in our head - that talks from a first hand experience/understanding... thus, most thoughts which involve the "I/Me" - "I want... I this... I that..." or "whatever we might think of those - who had/have an impact on us" - involve the ASC) or a Guardian (a defensive mechanism - that's shaped by its interactions with the exterior / it's where our fears and doubts reside). It can act in our place - at times, since... it's more or less primal in nature, it acts based on what it knows from actual experience. Doesn't matter if it's true or not - the main motto of the ASC is ''what you see - it's what you get". After all... the ASC has a beginning and an End (though, one could die - many times in a life time).
A simpler way to look at it...
Let's say - the chart is representative for an actual House. Thus, the ASC would be representative - for the exterior of the house. Which is obviously - interconnected with the interior - while the IC is the structure/foundation. The Sun on the other hand - is the rightful owner of the house - the one who lives there. I find this a lot with strong egos, lol especially leo and scorpio.
