Keto and IF here.

Apart from apples, bananas or the occasional chocolate bar when I've been fasting long and worked out a lot, I don't really do snacks.

I've been on r/ketorecipes. Lots of good ideas there, but for the most part, I just meal prep veggie, protein and fats meals for the week and take some regular carbs on the weekend cheat day (suuuuuuushi or a good poutine).

Thinking of trying a fathead pizza recipe soon, as well as keto cheesecake.

Ain't got time for macros. I just do net carbs

Pretty much same, except instead of fruit I occasionally have pork rinds.

Fathead dough is amazing, and I am on tjat subreddit as well.

I’ve made keto everything bagels with fathead dough before, and they turned out great!

just out of interest, why keto?

In short:

apologies, i'm not so much interested in the belief behind keto but more, why do you do it?

I wasn't much of a believer myself and I've pretty much tried every diet there is (because I like experimenting 0.o) and Keto was hands down the only one that kept me full for exceptionally long periods of time, bounds of energy, no brain fog... just a few pros atop of my head. One of my biggest concerns was potentially increased LDL levels. Not that I ever had issues with it but I didn't wanna start now either. Suffice it to say, I did a comprehensive blood test 9 moths into (intermittent) keto protocol, and apparently it was improved over previous year's one.

Granted, that's just me though.

and you're doing it for weight loss? will you continue it when you reach your target weight?

Actually my main objective was ridding myself of “brain fog”. While it wasn’t frequent experience, when it did happen, it was extremely irritating. All my research pointed to consumption of carbs being the main culprit and I loooove carbs, so I looked for alternatives. I’m not big on meat so Keto was ideal solution.

That said, weight loss was an added bonus however not the fastest. It would seem I shred weight fastest on Paleo but I’m kinda ehhhh about it.

Will I continue with Keto...intermittently for sure. I also forgot to add... my pms became negligible on Keto as well.

Was there some kind of transit that hit late August last year? That's when I started like ~changing my life in-terms of health and bod. Like I quit alcohol (I've only drank like 2-3 times since last August which is huge for me) and got other health issues in check.

And now I'm like 4-8 weeks away from having my Grade 11 bod back

I'm so happy I'm even going to do a results thread this Gemini season

Yeah, we had that insane eclipse season and one or two transits that happen as rarely as 50-200 yrs each time or something.

My only issue is that my digestion is not optimal for the past couple days. That's a nice way to say cramps and diarrhea.

I guess it's a keto flu and should pass soon but still......

I guess shitting all day will help speed weight loss.

That doesn't sound good......i found this, which may be useful to read

Thank you. That was a good read. I don't have a gallbladder so that may be an issue.

" you find yourself running to the bathroom more often while on a ketogenic diet, a quick internet search will show you that you’re not alone. (Yes, people are tweeting about keto diarrhea.) This may be due to the gallbladder—the organ that produces bile to help break down fat in the diet—feeling “overwhelmed,” says Axe."

I had mine taken out back in 2012, all good. I’ll type out a more detailed reply on keto w/o a gallbladder once I’m not work swamped.

I did atkins years ago and it works if you do it and now I'm looking at this keto thing - I found I get into ketosis very quickly - like it takes one day to kick start my system. I don't know if the keto diet your body goes into ketosis but it is called keto lol I'm looking at that video now.

I have a carb addiction so I can pack on weight very quickly if I'm not focused. Getting my brain wrapped around doing this helps so much because the carb cravings go away quickly when you see immediate results happening.

Yes, it's something you can continue once you reach your target weight. I found that even with a few cheats (like once or twice a month) I went right back and was still successful. You are never hungry and always satisfied. I noticed that on cheat time if I would eat crap my stomach would be messed up. Now that was incentive to not do that again too soon.

My friend does Keto and has had a lot of success on it...lost probably close to 100 lbs

Though I watched her eat the biggest fuckin steak one night with almost an entire stick of butter 😩 like cut a slice of butter for every slice of steak she ate

I am a little worried about her arteries personally, but hey I’m not a doctor 🤷🏼‍♀️

You just eat a lot of cruciferous veggies to avoid clogged arteries and fatty liver.

Ok, some weeks later I found a time to reply lol. Sorry for the holdup.

I had some issues with my digestion when jist starting keto with no gallbladder and all you really need to do is watch your fat intake. Try to kickstart yourself with keto shakes and MCT oil, instead of eating greasy meals.

You’ll work up a tolerance this way and will have less digestion issues and bathroom trips throughout the day.

I practically quit all liquid dairy, aside from heavy whipping cream by now (kefir and most yogurts on the market are not keto friendly), but it can be tough to get a lot of cream and fat in foe beginners. Use half&half instead, or a coconut milk substitute if you’re non-dairy.

Many keto meal replacement shake companies are now also providing vegan options for people, which is great. I’m not vegan and can tolerate gluten just fine, but I like that this life style (let’s face it, this is not a diet) is literally for anybody.

If I, too, may offer some unsolicited advice....

1) unless you are already armed with digestive enzymes supplements (not pre/probiotics), I suggest you acquire some pronto. There are different brands out there and it took me a while to find a one that works well for me.

2) increase the intake of fermented foods such as sour kraut, kimchi and alike. Even rice or apple cider vinegar in your salads will be beneficial.

3) do not skimp on iodinezed salt!

4) make sure you drink plenty of water/herbal teas.

5) multivitamins are a must however I found the only ones that my body seems to absorb properly are the gummy ones. But you’ll figure which ones are best suited for you for yourself. 🙂

6) consumption of bone broth is optional but it highly recommend it.

That’s about all I can think of atm. Hope it helps!
