What made it unacceptable in the old school?

Because it's gendered. Anyone can be an asshole. In the old school, only a woman was a bitch.

so it's singling her out for being a woman?

It's singling her out for being a woman with an opinion, most often.

Not in a joking way. Acceptable / Not Acceptable. I'm 36 and kinda old school and raised "old school," so it makes me skeeve when I hear it, but if def seems to be acceptable in some social circles.

I feel the same way. I just associate it with the lowest of low. When I hear that word, and because of the meaning, I just think of a woman on all fours acting like a wild animal- And not in a good way lol

I hate that word.

I think calling a dude a bitch is super effective. It's way worse than calling a woman an asshole. Your making disparaging remarks at his masculinity... calling him a whiny crybaby who's maybe also on their period? Which is never acceptable for a man to be. Growing up, I always assumed asshole was gendered to men.

I like the term Poosey lol I think it's the equivalent of bitch for a women lol

What made it unacceptable in the old school?

Why are you asking them if you ARE an old school?

And you forgetting that ‘old school’ as modern society also had upper and lower classes. In lower classes it was very acceptable to humiliate a woman verbally AND physically...

So...your question is kind of like a fart in public place...

Sounds like a contradiction to me.

What made it unacceptable in the old school?

Old school knows how to respect a woman 😄

I dunno, it was a serious question. I'm curious.

Well do you see any 50’s movies calling women bitches? They just didn’t do that.

That's different though, that is fantasy.

Bitch, cunt, hag, heffer, slut, whore, etc...

All words that are meant to incite a reaction from women, but none of them affect me in the least. I stopped giving words of other people, power over me and my emotions, a long long time ago.

I just think it's a matter of respect though.

Who is okay with being name called? It's a form of abuse

There are worse things in this world, than names. I have learned, personally. So words, aren't something that affect me on any level. They don't demean me. They don't have power over my self esteem. And the people that use those words to me, or women, I don't respect myself.

They want equality, they'll get equality. If you're being selective about it, might as well axe the whole movement & go back to the "pants are for men, skirts are for women" shtick.

I prefer to treat people on a personal merit basis, in the interest of fairness.

Those who are good to me will receive nothing but courtesy from me. If you wanna give me shit (especially for no reason), you forfeit your right to be treated with courtesy, and you only got yourself to blame for whatever happens next. Life is too short to mince words.

I'm an equal opportunity treater. Gender means nothing to me.

#equality

PS: why is this even up for debate? If whoever has a problem with being called a bitch, maybe she shouldn't act like one in the first place.

I respect. Maybe you can talk to my sis

Who calls her that?

I only really get mad when it's used in anger and directed at me or another woman. It I doalso triggers me more to hear it IRL than to see it typed online. I've seen "bitches be this or that" enough that it no longer gets under my skin.

I have 19 year old sister who got into an argument with her dude. He sent her an angry text with included, 'you fuckin' bitch." Shit made her upset, which in turn triggered me. She thinks its the norm and I'm just the old dude.

Well, that's clearly abusive behavior and would be if he'd used another word "you fucking dummy" "you fucking asshole" "you fucking cocksucker". I see why she was upset and you mad. As for "bitch" in particular, I'm old too. lol

Oh that makes sense. The only negative impact in my life is dxp lol I never made time for tv shows or social media. .

Yeah you are right-- it boils down to the world we live in, esp our immediate circle of influence.

Are you the eldest? I'm the youngest and I know my brother would be disappointed if i were to use a certain language!

This is the type of language that will get worse with time, not better. I judge a man by how he tallks to women, and this type of demeaning behavior only gets worse, unfortunately.

When I was with my ex, he always called me his wife, while his other friends called their wives bitches. So his friends would say Where's your wife to him, when asking about me but he would ask where's your bitch to them.

I dunno, it was a serious question. I'm curious.

Well do you see any 50’s movies calling women bitches? They just didn’t do that.

Most where in the kitchen cooking or standing with the platter serving. Or else Cleaning house with a the duster.

Right, I was curious to know where we get our morals from.

Like I can say back in the day we were slaves, but they let us wear real nice suits when the guests came over to serve them dinner though.

But kids nowadays don't wear suits, what is the world coming to.

Itt'd just be ideal if a person was motivated to respect people of their own will, more than following arbitrary rules of right and wrong.

Well usually parents teach us morals when we are young or they try to. churches, schools etc. Society has changed so that has impacted morals in my view as well as what some might feel is right or wrong, it has never really been up to own free will if you really think about it. My morals aren't going to be the same as yours.. so who is right, who is wrong.

also who sets what a moral even is, and which are good or bad.
