Sometimes when I've heard people describe themselves as an empath, using that specific word, there's a tone of arrogance that puts me off. It's been a popular focus in the New Age community of late, it seems, and now it's over used as a descriptor, IMO. I'm not referencing anyone on DXP with this, btw (I haven't participated in lots of threads on the subject to know who is arrogant about it vs not here).
It's interesting when the above has happened because the person doesn't seem to pick up on my negative feelings about them after they make their declaration. Instead, they continue to talk about their special ability in a way that makes me think less and less of them, lol. Sheesh.

@tiziani Definitely. I was quite young when that was going on, and I wasn't aware of it at the time. My mother got into New Age philosophies when I was a teenager and she was aware of it. She was more critical of what she was learning than most so that helped her a lot. One of her friends got involved with a cult that my mother spotted as a problem fairly early on thankfully so she didn't get sucked in.

Whereas around here empaths and conscious people are portrayed as helpless and yet noble. It leads me to believe that self-portrayed empaths don't care about the truth at all, but merely comforting themselves in a lie. And that's an ok choice to, it's their life. There's beauty in all the way people mix and match. Not necessarily always strength.
IF people don't like what they see when they look at you, just tell them to put a bag over their heads.
