What's with all the height topics?

This one is a year old - and the most successful thread I ever started, lol. I didn't think it would be resurrected.

Ikr??! I was surprised when I saw the age of the thread. I like your description of yourself though on page 1 lol it sounds so cute. I still want to pick you up and carry you over my head, your my warm up weight πŸ™‚

haha. πŸ™‚

One person I dated used to bench press me. It was a good workout for me too because it takes strength to hold one's body in a locked straight position, and that was made even more challenging because it was hard not to laugh during (for him too).
Yea your basically planking and it engages your core just to do that, especially since he's wiggling you lol
I can hold plank ...but I have never been able to do push-ups!! Why do you think that is?
Because your arms are skinny and I could probably wrap my hand around your arm lol . Pushups use your chest and triceps. One is emphasized more depending how wide or close your hands are. Planking is easy on the arms, but rough for your belly and lower back. How many push ups can you do?

I can't do any ..at all!! Now I'm able to do!! Lol!! Miracles happen!! I tried what Tiz suggested just now??

Exactly. If I ever do it again, I might try a stomach vacuum at the same time.

Shoulders? Though I suppose it depends how wide your hands are apart, if you can't do them wide them do them with your hands centred and you'll know if you feel any different pushing up from a different muscle group

Omfg!! Wow Tiz. I tried the hands centered thing right away!! I'm able to do it!!Why didn't I think of this before??! You're awesome. I'm confused. How am I able to do thisβ€” Am I even doing it right?? Is it not the same like doing it with hands wide apart?? HOWβ€” Lol!! Sorry I'm so excited ??

Haha well I'm very glad to hear it. When you're pushing up with your hands closed together, you're mainly pushing up from your chest muscles.

The wider your grip gets, the more you're using your shoulders... And I think using triceps more too.

Very different. There are about 16 different grips for push-ups. I used to have a diagram of all of them but I'm sure I've lost it now.

Okay! 3 is all I'm able to do at once n my arms already kinda started feeling weak ...but still. I never was able to do even 1. I always fall flat on my face(nose actually) . I never had problem doing plank. I can comfortably hold it for 1:45. I thought it's the same muscles n didn't know why I wasn't able to do push-ups. Thanks Tiz!!! I'll practice more n then maybe I can get on to keeping hands apart?

No worries, I'm glad πŸ™‚

You can try spacing your hands gradually further apart. Some of it might just be mental and when you get used to it, it gets easier.

This set pattern always works for me, I did it in exactly the order listed (your column in week 1 would be the left-hand column) and if you stick with it week by week you'll laugh at how easy it becomes:

http://hundredpushups.com/week1.html

It might be mental yeah. But for one thing, I realized I've not been challenging myself. I got comfortable with what I'm doing I guess. It has been long since I felt so tired (in a good way) after a workout.

N thanks for the link.It seems interesting. Bookmarked it. Gonna follow it. I wish I can say it's very easy soon πŸ˜„

It's definitely one of the uglier exercises when performed, lol, but the results can be very good.

Trust me, if you do it without missing a week, by the end of week 3 you'll be laughing at week 1 numbers.

Right now I am back a week 1 status. I haven't done a push-up in months. If I did 5 right now I'd probably break down and cry myself to sleep in the fetal position.

I'm glad you feel better about it all.

Lol!! That's exactly how I'm feeling right now. Goddamn. I still didn't get up n my hands are shaking even while typing. I might just fall asleep again. But it feels so good weirdly. It's something I have been wanting to do it since ages. But I didn't try as much as I wanted to do it tbh. I just gave up. Yayyy! So I've company πŸ˜„

Because your arms are skinny and I could probably wrap my hand around your arm lol . Pushups use your chest and triceps. One is emphasized more depending how wide or close your hands are. Planking is easy on the arms, but rough for your belly and lower back. How many push ups can you do?

Your welcome! I can't wait to hear about your 30 pushup accomplishment in the near future!!
30?? Seems like a task... I'll try sure πŸ˜„
Ohh and one more thing, I don't want you to hurt yourself from bad form so....

1. Keep your body straight as a board

2. Your shoulder blades should be tight, so pinch them together

3. Flex your abs!

4. Hands are placed shoulder width apart and at the same level as your nipples.

5. Drop down to 90Β° at the elbows or deeper if you wish.

That is a standard pushup! If you keep your hands higher than your nipples, they focus shoulder muscles. If your shoulder blades are not pinched, you risk damage to your ligaments around your shoulder (rotator cuff damage or your coraco-clavicular ligament) and it's something YOU DO NOT WANT THAT. I know you won't do pushups like crazy but I don't want you to hurt yourself if you do end up doing it often!

Thanks for that. I'll remember all that.N yes don't want be hurt. This is more like a sense of achievement more than anything. So I'm not gonna go crazy.Right now I didn't drop much deeper. I'll get there eventually I guess. N I didn't understand this part.."If you keep your hands higher than your nipples" higher or wider? Or am I totally off?

One person I dated used to bench press me. It was a good workout for me too because it takes strength to hold one's body in a locked straight position, and that was made even more challenging because it was hard not to laugh during (for him too).
Yea your basically planking and it engages your core just to do that, especially since he's wiggling you lol
I can hold plank ...but I have never been able to do push-ups!! Why do you think that is?

arm, shoulder and back muscle strength. when i first strated trainign i couldn't do them either. did a ton of lat pulls and varies things to strengthen and got to being able to do 3 to 4 sets of 20 to 25 push ups.

I'll get there soon... Hopefully ?

you will. i need to get my fat ass to the gym . wonder how long i can hold a plank now... 30 seconds most likely 😒 LOL

Haha. After every plank it feels like I'm fighting to live. It's awesome. My favourite till now. But rn I think push-ups have taken that place. I should see πŸ˜„

What's with all the height topics?

This one is a year old - and the most successful thread I ever started, lol. I didn't think it would be resurrected.

Congrats! Your first pushup!!! I love doing pushups and variations like double claps, triple claps, and one handeds. I do 200 normal pushups a day to keep the doctor away and it always feels good.
Wow!!! I can only dream of that I guess. I don't think I can ever get to claps . 200β€”β€” I might just die before I do 200 .. I'm not even kidding!!

It's all in your mind! You can do it! You can do it all night long! LOL sorry I was thinking of the movie "Waterboy"
β€”

Not tonight for sure. I already am shaking n feel like I've done some very intense workout. But I feel so happy lol. Thanks you guys!!

Higher than your nips vs lower than nips. For example place your hands shoulder width apart. Now take note of where your hands are placed. Is the center of your palm horizontal with your shoulders, nipples, or below your chest. A neutral position would be an inch below your nipples.

Ohhh Gotcha!!!! Lol.. Excuse my ignorance. You're damn good at explaining I say. Thanks for the patience πŸ™‚

Absolutely no problem. I enjoy sharing what I know with people, and I'd feel pretty bad if you turned 30 and said, "Dammit, Dreamyboy told me to do 200 pushups, but now my shoulder hurts when it's snowing outside!"

??

"I should have known dreamyboy was just dreamy"

On a serious note tho, I think I really will die if I do 200? N now that I know I can get answers, be prepared for crazy questions if at all. Don't blow me off plz. Workouts has always been mine n @Copperdove's fav topic to talk about πŸ˜„

I'm petite (just under 5'1 and slender), and for the most part don't mind even though there can be drawbacks at times.

Curious what others think of their height.
I'm the same height as you, it's normal asian but i'm way far from being petite lol

I'm overweight πŸ˜†

I dont mind the height, surely when most of the malls' stores (not that I go there often) they sell most of intl brands (which occur too many times it sucks) sell mostly for euro/us size. This is exactly why, asian countries should not have imported goods (especially clothing, food and cosmetics) marketed here because they don't work the best. Smh.

When it comes to drawbacks of my body, it isn't much about the height but more to big upper arms and long torso/short legs, plus small tits too that can make shopping for clothes a hustle.

Sigh
