I live in California. My car insurance just went up to $ 300 a month because some asshole hit me in June.

This is my first accident. Does anyone know how long my insurance will be this high?

I'm looking for people with experience in paying high rates after an accident.

Insurance rates just went up at the beginning of the year for all CA residents too because of some other stupid reasons.

But 300 seems excessive in terms of how much you are being asked to pay. Even with an accident. Hell, my ex husband had a DUI that killed us in terms of car insurance. But good god, 300 is like another car payment.

Call the insurance company and ask them how long it takes for the accident to fall off your record.

Usually it's 2-3 years.

I would get a quote from another company, change your coverage limits, or raise your deductibles.

That's a CRAZY amount to pay for insurance. I'd take my chances WITHOUT before I'd pay that!

My rates got jacked up for 2-3 years because I had a speeding ticket. 1 ticket. I'm in WI.

In California, your license will get suspended without car insurance. So going without isn't even an option πŸ˜”

So they know the minute you cancel....they contact license registration department? Have a hard time believing that, but in CA, I suppose anything's possible with their brand of heavy handed government.

Insurance companies are linked to the DMV here. Believe what you want. I live here so I know. I live in the silicon valley. Technology is everywhere in this city

Who do you have?

I have esurance (allstate). But I think I will have to lower my coverage and not get full coverage. πŸ˜•

I've shopped around and they all seem to be the same. 😭😭😭

I don't think you'll be able to drop your full coverage if you're making car payments.

Yeah I know, I'm just gonna lower the coverage amounts. I have to play with the quotes and see. πŸ˜•πŸ˜”

Woah why did the insurance go up if you got hit?

Who was at fault here, the other driver?

Even then $ 300 seems steep. I was in a car accident last year where the blame was 60/40...me being 60. And mine barely went up.

Might be time to look for a different carrier for coverage. They are bleeding you dry.

Not really - I embrace it. I ride snowmobiles 90 MPH at 0 degree's. In 3 weeks I'm headed to Key West.

Definitely DOESN'T suck. But it must suck to live in the land of fruits, flakes, nuts and illegal aliens galore.

I have a suped up SUV that has a diesel engine and blacked out with all the upgrades. It looks like this one but doesn't have red interior. I didn't take into consideration what my car insrance would be cause I hadnt had a new car in 12 years. I thought it would still be about $ 40 a month

Try dropping the deductible?

I pay 170ish for my car, but I am also a lot older than you.

Have you contacted state farm?

That's insane to up your insurance when it wasn't your fault. Was the other driver insured ? cause normally if it's their fault, their insurance company pays and their rates go up.

I have Allstate - they didn't change my policy a penny for an accident where it wasn't my fault. Change insurance companies. If this was your first accident in years, they will take you. Check 3 and get quotes.

I heard its 3 years. My rates went up too and trying to ride it out. (more cautiously of course). Dont know why you get penalized for a no fault accident really.

I was talking with my boss about it and she said I should call and talk to my insurance company. I will try that first.

Allstate gives those discounts for every year with no accidents, not sure if that is all accidents or just at fault ones. It might be that. But ya call some other places, that's insanely high, but you will be required to maintain certain levels of coverage and deductibles if you financed that Beauty.
