The good guys job is to figure out who are the bad guys and who are the good guys (without cheating)
Every day everyone votes to exile someone from the game. The person with the most votes in exiled.

A basic Mafia game consists of two teams: The Mafia and The Townies. It's played in 2 shifts Night and Day
The Mafia know each other, the Townies don't. The Mafia's advantage is that they know each other and they get to kill a Townie during the Night. They pose as Townies during the Day to further confuse the Townies and get the Townies to vote out one of their own during the Day as well.
The Townies advantage is that they outnumber the Mafia 3 to 1. If the Townies identify a Mafia member, they can easily vote them out during the Day. The Townies also have "Special Townies" with abilities that help them identify each other and the Mafia. These Special Townies use their abilities during the Night to get clues.
Examples:
The Cop: investigates a player each Night; finds out if they are Guilty or Innocent
