What is relevant, however, is that people who are actually qualified to speak on matters of politicians or public policy are largely ignored, but as soon as Meryl Streep recites a speech written for her by a speech writer or publicist, the country has a collective brain fart.

Based on FB posts in my feed, half the country is ready to elect Streep to be President, even though she's probably less qualified than Trump (if that's possible).

Exactly. That's all this post is. In fact, many celebrities use the money they earn to aid causes that are very much IN TOUCH with real world problems.

He pushed race conflicts... and other left democrats are now pushing to destabilize the US. The funny thing is if there was a riot... and the US was destabilized right now... Even more so with where all the money is at in stocks democrats would be the people hurt most. I think personally this is the goal of guys like George Soros... funding demonstration...

It is very interesting to see people think that raising min wage and other things will work for the whole country and don't look into area... The problem that everyone has is a basically California and New York... oh and Chicago some of the most corrupt cities out there... with more drugs and violence... then anywhere think we should do everything thing like them... California people aka Hollywood are not seeing people loose there jobs with the defunding of the coal industry, the auto industry going over seas, any type of manufacturing... These are actually Union type of jobs...

You know what California people even more so the Tech people thing... oh everyone should have tech only business. In fact tech is so great that we have now made systems for self driving semi trucks. Who cares about the 80,000 to 150,000 dollar jobs... I mean really how many truckers can there be... So lets do things our way and fire all these people to have self driving tucks so companies can make more money.

All this tech and stuff is aimed at not creating but making employees go away because of the current laws... it is not affordable to have employees. The governments answer to this is we are not going to even tax big corporations even more so all the ones that give money to us... If you look at who gave Hillary money it was nothing but big banks... she is a failure and embarrassment to not only America but to the Democratic party which has set them back to a place they have not been for over 30 years... Instead of taking responsibility for there actions... like doing a poor job with national security, corruption, and only favoring people that gave them money... It is simple the Clintons, Obama's, Bush, and any other political family becomes rich when they are in office due to the abuse of power...

Hillary was the biggest whore on the block and although I think Obama had good intentions he empowered her by making her secretary of state. People want to talk about how Trump treats woman what about Anthony W. who was married to Hillary's top aid. This is why his home state has so many murders. The left lost touch with 75% of America... which is why again all the polling was so off.

Go read... go actually read numbers of jobs and maybe you will understand if you quite counting unemployed as people that stopped looking after 4 weeks as not looking then of course unemployment when down... Obama reclassified this like a someone in law would do... to make America look good... when we are like at a 20% unemployment rate... not only that the jobs out there suck... work fast food... labor unskilled... The power of the people does not end at the election if the president. We, the people, need to remember the responsibility we hold over our media and ourselves. In my opinion, it's never "tired" to remind people of the truth, no matter how frequently sone act against it. "What's the point?" has infrequently been my attitude.

If there is one thing I'm taking away from this is this: I hope to hold myself to the same standard we seem to hold celebrities. After all, if we can ask Streep "where have you been?" I believe we should, and are obligated, to all ask ourselves the same question.

I completely agree LillyPetal. I too very much enjoyed Meryl Streep's speech particularly that last part when she quoted Carrie Fisher and said she once told her "take your broken heart, make it into art"…What a lovely quote.

Her being a celebrity does not negate the fact that before anything she's a human being, one who casts her vote like every other American and therefore she is as entitled as any of us to voice her opinions and political views, to think otherwise is completely hypocritical. Her using her platform as an actress of her stature is nothing but commendable in my opinion. It's so disappointing to witness celebrities and other public figures stay silent in the midst of injustice when they know the magnitude of their influence yet choose not to utilize it to make positive changes, it's shameful really. Good for Meryl for not just wanting to be remembered as a pretty face on a screen but as the whole person she is complete with opinions and ideas like everyone else.

My favorite thing is to have my presumptions dashed. It's amazing how often I realize that my opinions of others aren't even my own. Like, I see someone and I have thoughts about them without realizing they aren't my thoughts, but the thoughts placed there by the images, songs, news, and other type of media bias that we are bombarded with daily. It's my favorite thing to learn, hey, this camouflage laden man with the "weird" southern accent and American flag baseball cap doesn't hate me and I don't hate him.

Holding onto our humanity will not be easy. But the fight will be worth it.
