Him and his father are both libertarian.

Pretty much believe the government should have no say in the private lives of citizens. Wanna smoke pot? Go for it, Wanna get an abortion go for it, Wanna spend all your hard earned money on guns & hookers?

Fine by me, none of my business as mine is none of yours.

Do what you want as long as it doesn't directly effect me and don't ask for my involvement.

They both believe the troops would be better off at home as opposed to scattered all over the globe fighting in pointless proxy wars that are draining the economy, ridding the system of lobbyist and special interest groups, cutting back spending on foreign aid, repealing laws that fine companies for not hiring certain races/genders etc etc.

Pretty much on par with the founding principals of the country..
I feel this is a selfish pov. What about needy families who can't afford being left to their own demise/being forgotten. What about the issue with guns we have in this country. There's so much wrong with that comment...it's the typical "you leave me alone and i'll leave you alone" but what about those who cannot afford being left alone and those issues which need some sort of resolution for the good of the people? I'm not going to go into detail bc ya know bedtime and it's pointless debating about something like this... So I'll end it with this, there are issues which are left ignored by other candidates, and I think Bernie Sanders will do a good job with his ideas at coming closer to solving those issues.

I'd say logic is the appeal.

Of all the viable candidates you have Hillary. Probably the most inconsistent of them all. She will say anything to appeal to certain people at any given moment. Most things she says now totally goes against past statements and votes and hell even reading her stances and watches debates I really dont know what her plan is at all.Its like she just wants to get elected no matter what and if she is just gonna be a place holder for everything Obama.

Then we have the corporate champion The Rick Rubio whose tax plan is to mostly help the corporations. Yes the corporations and the 1% will have the biggest tax cut of all. Ahhh smell the logic!

Donald Trump actually has some decent ideas if you can shovel through the shit he says. He certainly a moderate and not a republican which can actually be good when facing congress and yet he decides to be a circus show and go to extremes on immigration while spouting racism. Its just not smart.

Ted Cruz seems to get pushed aside by some republicans and I do not understand why. Sometimes I wonder if people actually try and learn about candidates because he is republican through and through. His downfall is his extremes. Sanders gets hit for his supposed extremes while Mr Cruz thinks in his long term plan he can eliminate the IRS altogether. rofl good luck with that!

While some of Sanders ideas would be impossible to pull off but the fact is some things continue to get more and more expensive and the middle class growth has stopped. The cost of Health care and college is ridiculous. People be paying off loans their whole life. Im a registered independent and sometimes swing right or libertarian, but where conservatives always lose me is in the lack of logic in the anti abortion + pro guns + no to universal health care. Sorry but those 3 things together do not logically correlate. The picking and choosing of issues that dont go together is always a facepalm.

I think the biggest thing tho, like Dazed said is that he isnt a liar. His record is by far the most consistent and hes been around quite awhile. Who couldnt logically get behind someone you can actually believe has your best interest.

I don't think the people should have to pay for college students' degrees. These kids don't deserve that, and there are too many degrees that don't need all these people majoring in them. I just think the cost of $ 11,300 per year at a state university is too high especially when minimum wage is shit. People with student loans should have them refinanced at lower interest rates, and people should no longer to be able to take out federal loans for university so that these boards lower the tuition rate to $ 50 a credit. The dream.
I suspect you are about 19, 20 tops? You have a lot to learn, as illustrated by that post. I suggest finishing high school first, then college where for sure you need a few semesters of Econ.
First of all, I ended it with "the dream" ya twit. Second, universities are starting to lower rates on gen ed class credits to $ 50 to compete with community colleges. Economics is a social science, and I know more about it than you I'm willing to bet. Do you have any higher degrees in economics? It doesn't sound like it. These economists out here are fucking radical as hell when it comes to predictions. They're no statisticians.

Why are all of these old guys trying to talk down to me?
They're flirting.
Oh crap. We just had three contentious threads and that subject and now we can expect more..
But so far no hallucinogenics and butt rape in this thread.

So there's only two systems of beliefs when it comes to politics? And even if there were just two, a well rounded person would pick and choose from both in the end, not just go blindly with one or the other.

Bernie seems to me like the approachable, kind, loveable grand pa. He seems real.
He’s too soft for the white house. They’ll eat him alive. I want a strong scorpion that can make executive decisions when needed. One that can ice out all the of the worthless politicians, one that cannot be fooled, and one that will keep everyone on their toes.….hehe, seriously!

He's been in politics a long time. I think he can probably hold his own.

*Shudders at the thought of a Hillary presidency*

She may not be fooled, but she sure fools everyone else. I LOVE how Bernie calls her out blatantly on her lies and inconsistencies.

@sensitiveblues find me a scholarship for being a healthy white woman that isn't part of my degree and where the odds of winning are in my favor. I can't find any. I don't do sports.
Seriously. This was one of the most frustrating things when scholarship hunting when I was getting out of high school. Scholarships are handed out like candy for everyone who isn't of the "privileged" race, and gender, well, you have to be a minority as well.

Not that there's anything wrong with scholarships existing for those, but it's gotten to the point where scholarships are thrown at the groups that help bump a school's diversity. If you don't fall into one of those groups, applying for scholarships is almost pointless.

I made my way through school by keeping myself broke enough to qualify for grants up the ass and ended up basically debt free.

Something some people seem to forget is that you fall under your parent's finances until you're 24. If you can't qualify for grants and other various aid because of this, you're on your own and have to consider loans to pay for school. It's kind of twisted considering 18-24 is a prime college age to begin with.

Because the established right and left are exactly the same. They will say what they think voters want to hear to get elected and then do their own thing.

Anything of quality is expensive.
Two of the best universities in the world, Oxford and Cambridge are £9,000 a year. 5 years ago it was £3,000 a year but the government allowed the tuition fee cap to increase.

Please don't speak so freely with your ignorance. Americans get shafted in tuition fees. I mean you honestly get bent over and raped.

She's kind of showing her age and obliviousness when it comes to these things. I agree, there are ways to work around this crap, but at the same time, you can't sit there and shrug off and justify all the garbage going on in the college system in regard to finances and cost.

She shrugs it off and makes it sound like it's so easy to do, but it's not always the case for everyone.

Waving off high cost as "quality" is the most ignorant thing you can do in life. It does apply in some circumstances, but not most.

And whoever else shrugged off community college as the wrong way to go- total dipshit mentality right there. "OH YOU HAVE TO GO STRAIGHT TO UNIVERSITY AND BLOW ALL THIS MONEY BECAUSE OF IMAGE!!"

Fuck that stupid shit right there. That's why you have so many of these moron kids in debt up their ass. All slapping designer labels on their college education. SMART people knock out lower div requirements at a CC for a fraction of the cost. Counselors and professors will back this up and encourage you to do so. I had professors at my CC who also taught at Universities who were teaching the SAME material. We just weren't paying as much as those at the Universities. All that added cost is is lining the pockets of the admin who get paid way too generously to sit in an office and schmooze all day.

It cracks me up when people downplay community colleges. When I transferred, I was so much better prepared than some of these other people who went straight from high school into University. There was another chick in one of my classes who came from the same CC and we both had noticed this and were like wow, I am so glad I went there first haha.

There are tons of scholarships/grants if your GPA sits at ~3.5 and above. I have one. But it does not cover even close to the costs needed to pay for everything, it's mostly just my books, which have costed upwards of $ 650/semester for me. It also depends on your major. STEM fields desperately need females, so there are many scholarships for women studying in those fields.

Learn to work the textbook system and you're set.

I was so fed up with paying for these expensive books that ultimately weren't used all that much due to online resources that the professors ended up using more of. The last straw was my anatomy class. Expensive ass book that we never really used because we had so many other resources that were used instead of the book.

Half.com and the school's library. At my university, there were copies available, that weren't on reserve, to check out regularly. You could renew 3 times and it pretty much covered the entire quarter, so yay haha. Turns out there were copies requested by professors in the department for the intent of reserves, but then they either forgot about them or didn't feel the need to reserve them anymore, so they were available to check out regularly like that.

Another nice thing about having fellow students in a major was borrowing books from them. I had a few who wanted to keep their major related books and had no issue letting someone else borrow (who they trusted to return them and take care of the books) their books as well.

I'd get my books on half.com from local sellers so I'd have them quickly. If that edition was still being used, I'd turn right around and sell it to a student for about the same I paid for it, so I came out even on textbook spending.

Some schools are getting shady as fuck about it though now with their "school name edition" books. They're essentially the main textbooks, but specific bits left in/taken out by the department. Some people would even fudge those and find out what edition the book was from and buy that edition and figure the rest out.

I had some awesome professors that said eff the system and made their own spiral bound "textbooks" from a local printer and they cost like 20 bucks. They weren't about that bs haha.

You bytches are fuking crazy! The entitlement is disgusting!

On top of it just because you're too lazy to get scholarships don't mean they're not out there!

Especially for stem majors! Especially for engineers!

Anyways I don't even feel sorry for you. You're first year you'll be making 50k. Second 60k

By your fifth sixth year 80 k

I mean this bs crying is just beyond ridiculous!

The unfortunate part about the school edition books is that they usually come with a web component, and for a long time, you couldn't get the web component without buying the book. A lot of profs don't want you spending that kind of money though and will find ways around it.
Haha, that stupid web key access shit. I remember that.

Fortunately, my professors got away from that. It was mostly used in the math department. But then the school had a brand new math/science building built, complete with a killer math lab, so the use for these web access keys went out the window.

You can't get a grant if your parents make a certain amount or above. Are you a freshman? A lot of people can get a $ 5000 presidential scholarship their first year if they did well in high school. They don't desperately need females lol. That's ridiculous.

Actually, they do, dear. Those fields have some serious under representation of females in these fields. And you CAN get grants, but they just won't be as much. I had one year that I had to report my mom's income, after that, I didn't have to and I got so much more money. You also have to keep a FT status if you want all of the aid you qualify for. Pell grant gets cut considerably if you fall to part time.

That is good advice, I do need to be more intelligent about purchasing my textbooks. It turns out many of them can be pirated online! I like having the physical copy, and last semester I received my grant late. The school "made an error in processing it", so by the time it applied to my tuition, all that was available were the NEW physical copies of the book, which I needed in order to avoided being dropped from the course (for not being prepared, lol). I am going to try to find all the books online, because it is seriously bullshit. In addition to them making "school specific versions", they are also coming out with "2nd, 3rd, 4th, editions" in which they simply move the numbers on the homework exercises around. It is absolutely fucking ridiculous and frustrating.
Omg that reminds me, I was able to get a copy of my exercise nutrition book digitally through the library. You have all sorts of crazy access to research papers and the like, including digital book sources. All I had to do was request it, waited a few days while they got all the stuff in order and then told me I could access it via my student account.

I just printed out chapters as I needed them. It was fantastic haha.

I also know about people who upload PDFs of the books and share them on file sharing services haha. These companies are asinine with their books. Biggest scam going on in college next to the outrageous tuition rates.

I dunno how your finances are, but I had mine set up where waiting on my grants wasn't an issue. They gave me more than enough, so whatever extra was left, I threw into my savings account and it was the buffer for the following term so I wouldn't have to stress over waiting on the funds for books and the like. Of course, if you have to use everything they give you before the end of the term, then that definitely poses as an issue. I knew of students who were total dicks and would spend all their financial aid on gaming systems and a new computer, etc. Someone else was contemplating buying a car with hers because of some loophole since her dad was disabled and it affected her grant money... I dunno. I just remember thinking, "wow, that is such an asshole thing to do. We've got people struggling to pay for college and here you are qualifying and blowing your money on non essentials for school. Fuck you haha.

Very false. Thats misinfornation spread by the feminazis.

Ive received two summer grants before, they were for less than $ 200, but you submit a different form for summer tuition. I've contacted someone from fafsa asking them why I didnt receive any for regular semesters, and that is what they told me that I'm ineligible. Please dont tell me I'm wrong when this is my life. Things are done electronically now. You cant receive anything before completing the fafsa.

Oh sweetcheeks you need to CALM the fuck down. Nobody is telling you your life is "wrong." For someone who went to college, your comprehension skills are lacking quite severely.

Question to all of you wanting Free College and Free Healthcare --

You do realize it's not "free", don't you? Bernie wants to, and has said, he will increase taxes.

Once you get your 'free' degree and join the workforce, you will be paying a higher tax rate, just like the rest of us who are already paying high taxes.. So, long story short, that means less money in YOUR pocket and more to the government.

Of course, I could be wrong.....BUT, I'd rather pay 20% in taxes instead of 40% . (and yes, I made up those numbers, to provide an example). If my salary is $ 1000 a week and I give 20% to the government, I only get to spend $ 800. If taxes happen to double (and that's the only way I can imagine free college and healthcare), then I only get to spend $ 600 a week. - which REALLY hurts the economy in the long run and will actually make it even harder for struggling families.

(And I believe the tax rate should be a percentage. period. no tax breaks, no deductions, just a flat percentage where the poor pay less and the rich pay more).

Back to my point - yes, free sounds really good when you have nothing and are struggling, but once you're on your feet and making a decent income, looking at it from that angle, you could be actually making LESS than you would be otherwise.

And of course, this is coming out of my a $ $ and I could be wrong. Gosh! I HOPE I'm wrong!!

If you think I'm wrong, please enlighten me and educate me. I won't be offended as long as you don't call me an idiot, because this is actually the concern of a lot of people out there.

If course it's not free.

But the same principles that apply to infrastructure and emergency services and military apply to healthcare and education: spreading the cost out over all taxpayers reduces the individual costs for the mutual benefit of everyone.

Factcheck.org has already shown mathematically that Sanders health care plan would reduce costs for virtually the entire middle class. Take away your current health insurance premiums, and the tax increase is still significantly smaller.

If everyone had access to good healthcare...costs go down since you have a healthier population.

Same with education. The amount of additional taxes you'd pay would be less than your current costs. And an educated populace is going to create more economic growth and properity than a stupid one.

Hmmmm.....good point. But the tax base will still increase. I pay $ 400 a month for health insurance through my employer. So, if that stops and I'm paying $ 800 a month in more taxes, I don't see how that benefits me. (I'm making $ 400 less a month than I was). Sure, it will benefit some, but it will hurt me financially as it will for many more middle class people.

And I'm only guessing at the cost of the increase. Want to make that clear.

Health insurance policies weren't that expensive until Obamacare was passed. Then it skyrocketed with less coverage. A lot of people believe Obamacare was intended to be a ruse by the democrats so they could then push their free healthcare issues and it would pass. Distract us with inflated insurance policies, providing less coverage and we'd in turn appreciate the reduction and go for it. A lot of people believe it was a political ploy to progress their own agenda. Don't know if I explained that well, but I hope the idea came across.

It still surprises me how many Americans don't bat an eyelash when taxes are raised to build a stadium for overgrown boys to chase around a ball and roll around on the ground with each other or when send shipping pallets of cash to the middle east to rebuild their roads and bridges, but can't stand the thought of their tax money helping out a neighbor or fellow citizen.
Those increases are local and are voted on by the public. It's not forced on them.

I agree with Truecap “nothing is free”, and I like the 20% flat tax rate. My husband, and I are on the 40% bracket and idk that can afford a 50% or > tax bracket. Truecap if you ever run for president, you got my vote🙂

Our state is extremely red. And they've instituted a state sponsored optional single payer health care plan. A republican governor and congress at that.

And so far, it's working well.

Other republican states and municipalities have free community college for citizens.

And it's working. They've shown demonstrable economic benefits.

These aren't just liberal ideas like the TV and YouTube talking heads would like you to think.

I would like to note these are STATE and LOCAL programs. I think that's key. I think smaller government has a better grasp of what works for their constituents.
I agree with State's Rights. States should have more power.

Funny, this approach seems to be working fine for the several other nations who have had this concept implemented for decades.

Our county's issue is a bunch of people scared of change that benefits everyone. And self centered thinking. There are already such things in place as it is- mostly for low income individuals. So wtf is the big deal of expanding that so it applies to everyone who pitches into the system? Ooh, more taxes!!! But that extra money you're throwing in is two less things that you have to be concerned about financially. So wtf are people doing with their money that they're so scared of this extra tax hike? You wouldn't have to worry about HIGH monthly insurance rates, sudden medical bills, and if you've got college yourself or for your kids, you don't have to worry about that added expense as well. Both add up to a lot of extra cash yearly, so that's one less thing that you have to pay for. And you can bet your ass it comes out to a lot more than the extra taxes you'd be doling out each year.

People with college degrees are already flooding the job market and it's hard for them to find a job. What happens with everyone and their dog has a college degree?

Who's going to be willing to flip burgers or mop floors or work agriculture or cut hair?
This is the fucking stupidest thing I've heard in my life.

Not in all cases.

The decision to build Lucas Oil Stadium for the Colts here was decided by the state. Taxpayers were given no voice in the process.

Same with Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the Pacers. It fell under our Metropolitan Development Board. An appointed board who essentially had the power to increase local taxes autonomously.

In both cases, no fucks were given about involuntary tax increases.

But when the City County Counsel wants to raise taxes for schools and police all Hell breaks loose.
That doesn't include the financial strain put on the cities when the pro team leaves and heads to a new location.
It's all "get rich quick" shit.

We spent millions on the Superbowl when it was here. While we DID recoup the money we spent getting ready, the long term economic benefits we were promised haven't materialized.
Just like Olympic cities.
