I told my husband at the beginning that him cheating means he is out! He was married previously 3 times and I wasn't.

I think is very personal. For someone people if your partner has any feelings for someone else would consider it emotional cheating.

Is emotional cheating even real?
Not trying to be dismissive of your feelings.
It's just we see people here who start dating someone, then post about it and ask questions about them without the other persons knowledge. And no one minds that.
It sounds like something that was invented out of greed to protect self interest.

In one scenario, I was in an LTR in my mid 20's that had become very routine for me. I felt like it was not really going anywhere but stayed in it bc it was stable and I felt too bad to make waves. I wound up changing desks at work and my new neighbor was a very attractive woman that I'd always exchanged glances with in the office but had never spoken to. I knew it would be trouble. We were smalltalking after a few days, then joking alot. Soon we started using messenger to crack jokes about our coworkers covertly and then began talking about everything imaginable, for literally half or more of the work day. Very personal stuff, not sexual or flirtatious beyond just humor, but a lot about our past, worldview, relationships, passions, etc. This went on for about 6 mos. until she switched roles.
During that time I felt closer to her than my partner, felt heavier emotions, enjoyed her company more, looked forward to seeing her every day, did things to impress her, thought about her when w/my SO quite often, even sneaking off to FB message her once in a while. It felt like a kind of courtship. I honestly didnt feel much lust for her but I was really trying to control that aspect; it felt more like a crush but w/really strong platonic love and I did eventually start having sexual dreams. She knew I was with someone and eventually did hint that she'd be willing to get physical which scared me and I changed the subject. I only went out with her briefly once to grab coffee and she was extremely touchy with me, like pressed against me the entire time, putting her hand on my thigh a lot. I was surprised she was that forward physically, and it felt pretty intense.
I definitely could've had better boundaries, tried harder to adjust what was off with my SO etc. but I chose to suppliment that with another person, who then took my SO's place emotionally and I am sure that all factored into our end. Perhaps we couldve resparked our own connection. I have done that several times.
You dont see this as disloyal/unfaithful? Is this just having a 'work wife? I realize you cant get everything from your SO but shouldnt they be the primary in a lot of these areas?
Yes I feel guilty. Cheating is gross. I would never do it again.
I've cheated twice. Once physically and once emotionally, on the same person. I don't really remember the physical cheating, in my mind its kind of a blur, almost as if it didn't happen, we were in a long distance relationship at the time so I probably did it out of boredom and opportunity.
Now cheating "emotionally" I remember very well. We lived together but he seemed to be so emotionally distant and it drove me crazy. The harder I tried to be lovingly and caring and open, the more he pushed me away. So I made the mistake of revealing all of this to an ex, and he began to give me all the emotional love and care I was longing for (long distance).
I didn't get caught physically, but when it came to emotionally I actually revealed it to him because I had planned on breaking up with him and I wanted to be truthful about the reasons why. The outcome was him saying if I stopped he would forgive me and try to work it out, but I didn't want to. I told him I was done.

First of all, I would never cheat on my partner (Unless my partner cheats on me first and shows no guilt). I think the guilt would haunt me for the rest of my life.
My ex girlfriend Scorpio cheated on me. The outcome was my broken heart, a painful breakup, and cut contact. Other consequences are me having trust issues, fear of abandonment, depression, fear of attachment and fear of loving again.
