Posted by EllygantI don't know, sites r telling me different things. For me dating someone is when you are still new, going on a few dates, here and there n at the start getting to know each other.... seeing someone is when you continue to see them regularly after you have been dating them for a while.... seeing is more.... a continuous efforts where dating sounds more like fun and game to me. I don't know lol
I would think less. I see saying 'seeing someone' as the most ambiguous non label you can use lol.
Dating has a bit more of a traditional and structured connotation to it.

Posted by EllygantThough I get ur point !! Would love to hear more comments on this lol bloody dating world!!! Why so complicated hehe

Posted by MissDiamondOk thank you. it's strange how I c it on a totally different angle...!! What makes dating exclusive though if u havnt had the talk?
As far as I'm concerned, seeing someone means that you are involved with someone but "unofficially" (without the bf/gf label) and also you might see other people at the same time too. Dating is more serious and it also means that you two are exclusive.

Posted by EllygantHah interesting !! But do u see that person continuously?Posted by saweetz1988Lol! No wonder I'm so confusing then. I say seeing someone when I don't want to claim them yet as being s valid conversation fixture.Posted by EllygantI don't know, sites r telling me different things. If I'm seeing someone regularly then I say I'm dating them. Dating is closer to a relationship imo, and this intimidate me so I rarely like to say I'm dating lol.
But I have a tendency to be a revisionist too. There are some people where if I tell a story about them I'll reference them as someone I dated, even if at the time I would never have said I was dating them lol. That's only after I'm certain I never want to date or see them again lol.click to expand

Posted by Algol-RisingSo dating is less serious to u then
It's so weird to me. I feel like a dinosaur when people talk about this shit. I can literally count on one hand the number of times I have been on a "date" that was planned out before-hand with someone I was not yet "seeing." There was F in high school, who had a huge crush on me. I wasn't interested AT ALL, but my friends talked me into going on a double date with him. Hated it. There was B in high school, another double date, but I was a freshman with no boobs, and he was a hot senior, and he was the one whose friends talked him into that. LOL There was GuyWhoseNameIForgot in college. We met in a class and went on one date. He was hot, but he was a hippy, and he had BO, so I wouldn't make out with him. There was P in college. He asked me to accompany him to a costume party, and then we saw each other for a couple weeks. There was AnotherGuyWhoseNameIForgot who asked me out on a date in grad school and talked about how much his mom hated him for two hours. And then there was the first date with my husband. We went to a movie, and I had BO because I was so nervous, but thankfully, he didn't hold it against me.
Posted by EllygantAlthough I find them both to be the same thing and that's how I use it, I do agree with you that people use it the way you explain it.

Based on that site * dating - I'm still dating other people too... seeing - we are exclusive .... * omg so confusing

Posted by MissLadyIceQueenIt is the same thing, it is just that modern day dating has become vacuous and flaky
Means the same thing to me.

Posted by EllygantPosted by saweetz1988Yeah... I don't really go on dates lol. I agree about dating seeming superficial. I tend to talk to people a lot and hang out with them and their friends. Which transitions to hanging out alone. Which is seeing someone for me.Posted by EllygantPosted by saweetz1988No. Not really.Posted by EllygantHah interesting !! Interesting !! Have u read that site?i find dating superficials , seeing is more serious. People bring the best of them on dates which is the beginning of knowing someone ... now seeing, u see the real them on an on going basis... this is just me though lol
I only like to start going on actual dates once I've been seeing someone a few months. It's rare someone captures my interest longer than a month so I don't like to invest time and labels in dating till they pass that point. Then I love dating because I can make personally tailored plans to the person.click to expand

Posted by MyStarsShineMan so true!!! Now u can dating anyone u meet on the Internet ... it's just.. meh to me..to me * date, ing * is simply that. Going on superficial dates stage... lol I don't know ... .Posted by MissLadyIceQueenIt is the same thing, it is just that modern day dating has become vacuous and flaky

Posted by Algol-RisingHahahaha too funny
My mom used to "court." Or rather, she got courted. It was the 60s, I guess. She was dating three different men. No sex, of course. It was the old days, and my mom was one of the "good girls." One day all three showed up at her aunt's house where she was staying at the same time. My aunt put one in the parlor, one in the front hall, and one in the kitchen (the one she liked best went in the kitchen) and told my mom it was time to decide, because they were getting restless. So my mom chose the dude who was in the kitchen eating pie, my dad.

Posted by TaurusBull1977Interesting thank u for ur inlit
I view "seeing" someone as unrequited love...or complicated...or in limbo. Non-Action.
I view "dating" as preliminary stages to solidifying a relationship. Action.

It's odd, it depends on the person, but both terms are used interchangeably. So let's look at the verbage itself.
"I'm going on a date with.." This means that you have the intent to date more, but are probably feeling the other person out still.
"I'm dating someone" You're now dating someone with some type of intent. There have been multiple dates that are designed to get closer to the other person.
"I'm seeing someone" This means that you may be dating, you may be exclusive, you may be in some type of relationship, but regardless you aren't available. It doesn't necessarily mean the relationship is serious though, but the person is still unavailable at that time.

Posted by SofiaV87How about I'm seeing someone exclusively .. how's that different from being in a relationship hehe
Seeing & dating mean the same thing to me... when it's official it's exclusive
