The only type we avoid like a plague is the "too skinny" one, because there's much more behind it, they're most likely to be "sick in the head" and we don't want that. It makes us feel really uncomfortable dealing with anorexic because we start caring about their health and everything else is put on the back burner.

I mean no disrespect, but plus-sized girls are not for me. There are many that I have found very beautiful, and for quite a few, those extra lbs actually work for them. I've certainly gotten my fair share of loving from bigger gals, so it's not like I didn't give it a go despite not really being my type. But it just so happens that I get more excited and perform much better with thin/petite girls. It's just how my brain is wired, plus I'm 5'10 165lbs and pretty fit, so I'm not exactly a big guy.

Not true that a fat person and skinny person would starve at the same rate.
The body deprived of food eats it's own fat and also some of it's lean tissue, and the more fat you have (and muscle) the more fuel you have to draw from. Not a pleasant way to be fed, though. If you look up studies on fasting and related you'll find info that shows that having more body fat gives you more time before you die of starvation.
And some obese people have opted for fasting as a way to deal with excess weight and they can do that for much longer than a smaller person becuase they have the resources to feed them. Still, not a good way to be fed, because there's a lot of crap stored in body fat usually thanks to poor diet and chemical exposure, and of course muscle atrophy isn't good.
But if a more moderate approach is taken with calorie restriction, you can preserve muscle if you are getting enough protein in your diet and you do muscle building exercise at the same time you're restricting to offset the muscle loss you'd otherwise experience

For instance in Italy women are naturally skinny and averagely flat, so overlooking the breast is almost the norm here. So as much as we all like Maria Grazia Cucinotta that body type is too rare to wait for someone like her to come knock on your door.
If I lived in Colombia it'd be different, I'd be an idiot not to pretend at least a large breast.
Basically picking what you like from an ample sea (skinny and tall) is way easier then picking it from a small pond (curvy and tall). Now, considering it's tough already to obtain what you like (by default) at least I would prefer to have more margin and options.

It's simpler than that, we're almost saying the same things.
Aqua, as we all know, can be, at times, emotionally detached (I'm Pisces so I'm definitely not like that all the way), sometimes it sucks, sometimes not. This is because from detachment, or air in general, comes also the ability to see things in a clear and pretty objective way, since we don't usually get blinded or affected by external events. I don't personally feel the need to judge anyone, I don't care, but I know I can be a good judge if I want to.
For instance if I think my girlfriend is less attractive than the one of a friend of mine, she's doesn't become all of a sudden more attractive, from a physical standpoint, just because I'm in love with her, she's not.
Therefore, going back to our discussion, in time of famine some men, and I agree with you here, can be attracted to heavier women because their rooted evolutionary instinct kicks in, basically they lower their standards to an historical minimum (just to fill the hole). Some others, differently, are well aware of the fact that being "poor" makes them look less attractive to the eyes of a fit woman that will logically never choose them. They still like fit though, but they "sacrifice" for the sake of companionship, conscious of the fact they don't have a choice. Some others prefer to die alone, instead of lowering.
So what I'm saying here is that famine doesn't make certain type of women look more attractive to the eye of a man, it just makes them look like their only options, which goes beyond their reproduction instinct, it means they're desperate, which, to me, it's really depressing if I think about it.
Now the only state I'll refuse to be in, even in wartime, is depression because I'm convinced a Pisces can't be depressed by nature.
