We don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl until tomorrow (lord willing the baby wants to show us).

The Virgo actually has much more expensive taste than I do. The guy was literally picking out wallpaper for one small feature wall that cost $ 1300....because it’s hand painted. I’m all for style but I like layers of things and he likes big statement pieces that are just expensive for no reason.

I’m all about spoiling a child with experiences and memories but for now I think it’s important we focus on having a healthy baby and leave back all those superficial things like boogie decor.

Sooooo I enlist y’all to help me decide because I’m currently on the brink....with too many choices.

I’m trying to order things ahead of time because things seem to be taking absolute ages to get here due to this pandemic.

Love ya 💕

What are you looking for specifically?

I did a post with links but for some reason the links went weird.

My list:

Bassinet: I need a bassinet for newborn to six months. We’re going to be doing sleep training as early as 2-3 months if the baby is ready. (Neutral)

Rocking chair: preferably an armchair rocking chair (neutral).

Change table: I’d like one even though I feel they’re unnecessary.

Shelves: small or skinny shelves to hold baby heirloom figurines and stuffies handed down from his side of the family and mine. These are kind of just display only.

Organizers: organizers for drawers and closets for little baby things.

Some kind of easy toy storage/stuffy storage:

I don’t know what kids need regarding storage for toys?! Lol bins? A box? Do toys even end up in those things or on the floor?

Central ceiling light: I’m replacing the ceiling light and I want something fun for either boy or girl but....I really want it to be unique and interesting for the baby to look at.

So for what I have is:

1- A tall boy dresser with brass knobs

2- A credenza that’s vintage with brass knobs to hold excess things the baby doesn’t need like gifts, toys, clothes she isn’t big enough for and to hold things we’re collecting to give away when the baby grows it of them.

3- crib

4- mattress

5- changing pad

6- Ruggable carpet that can be washed

7- lots of art from family and friends

8- I just made custom curtains and ordered blackout blinds

Do you have a theme?

So far the wall colours are a neutral warm gray with crisp white borders and baseboards. The feature wallpaper is a cream background with tons of gold stars and moons ⭐️ 🌙

The floors are dark stained bamboo.

The dresser is white and the crib is vintage and being stained antique walnut. The credenza is antique walnut.

There’s going to be lots of brass knobs etc.

No theme but I generally want to keep it neutral and soft and not full of a lot of things.

decorate for a child not a baby, babies dont appreciate any of that shit.

I’m trying to keep that in mind once the baby is 1.5 to 2....the rocking chair and credenza will be moved out to make more room for toys.

I’m trying to keep it neutral and tamed back for now so that we can keep adding to his or her things to make it unique for them and what they like.

I am thinking about what my sim babies require... a crib, changing table, rocking chair, bathing thing (no idea how people bathe newborns). Yeah I don’t have much human baby knowledge. I hear washable cloth diapers are trendy.

My sister swears by her ikea baby bathtub 🛁 so we bought one. She told me to keep it simple for small baby bath things because the amount of time the baby is in the bath is so small.

Makes sense. The tub is so cute tho 😂

And if your going to spend that kind of money get one of those bassinet that recreate the womb experience. That's going to be where you want ur money 6 weeks in.

I was for the cosleeping, so I really liked Owlet oxygen monitor.

Link!! I’m willing to pay good money for this.

some of these things you have to find your own way with, because so many mom have different opinions, how u want to do things and how you get it done. We used the baby bath for whole year, I had to have the one with the thermostat on it, because I have trust issues and it beeps if the water gets to hot.

Something like this?

Or is this too simple

Yes this is lovely 😊 and kind of what I’m going for except slightly more bold or warm colours.

This style is perfect though and close to what I feel like I’m trying to achieve?! Lol 😂

My brain is just not working anymore for things like this. I’ve lost my touch 😭

If you're ok with expanding the budget

RH baby and child have that modest and clean look

Theres also a pottery barn for kids too

I use to be really into RH but we found that a lot of our things were just not up to the quality we like after a short time.

We spent a small fortune on redecorating a while ago and ended up not keeping a lot of our RH pieces because of quality.

I do like pottery barn! I’ve been browsing there for a while but I’m not connecting with anything, probably because I can’t shop in person and look at things.

I’m kind of considering buying a few larger pieces from PB and then using Etsy to find more unique decor.

My sister commented on the ad for that on Instagram or Facebook and tagged me. Then my mom got involved and told me that my OCD will skyrocket if I lean on things to monitor too heavily. This is partly true.

I think it’s a perfect investment especially for a new parent.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend though 😔

I’d rather just have it as a precaution. Just in case.

Really? Explains why they closed the one in Santa Monica then. I find pottery barn easily buildable and seems durable for the years to come when the kids personality starts to shine through. Plus when terrible two comes, that's when the test comes if the money was worth it

Both RH and PB are shit if you want quality material.

🤷‍♀️ that's what I've seen new parents buy to furnish their nurseries. But they are mass produced so material was going to suck sooner or later

I mean it’s a bit better than ikea but if you are going to spend that much you might as well go wood. Idk.

The drawer glides and hardware isn’t great either.

I would get this shit if it were real

I’m saying all this but my Virgo had a Pottery Barn crib.

Did it hold up to its price in your opinion?

I got it handed to me so I didn’t pay a dime.

My aunt is a hoarder. 😂

I get all the clothes her girls have outgrown.

These are the best kind of family members 😂

I love free things that are handed down. I’d rather have a memory attached or a story etc then have something new and kind of basic.

Too bad everyone in my family did the Marie Kondo life hack shit routinely for years because I’d be unloaded all the free shit.

Favorite bottles, they're soft, so when you accidentally drop it on your babies face... its ok, and designed for easy cleaning

This, because I can't even cut my dogs nails out of fear of hurting him

So because they've changed the recommendations on how babies are supposed to only sleep on their back, there are so many flat headed babies crawling around, and why so many babies have helmets. We actually had like 7 sessions with a pediatric chiropractor to fix this, but i wish i started with the pillows earlier. this is me 12 years in the future.. "i don't care if everyone is shaving their head on tiktok, your going to look stupid! like lopsided stupid!"

Be prepared for cradle cap the first month, nothing ruins a new baby pic faster then a flaky face.

There were a lot of dry skin issues, i bought like every lotion and oil you could think of, this hands down is the best ever. I buy 5 at a time because pinterest has told everyone this is a mosquito repellent and its sells out in the summer.

I didnt read all the thread but I did see your list. This is what I know from when my nieces and nephews were little.

Look for a baby changing station that converts into a dresser for when the baby grows out of needing a changing station. That way you're not over buying things.

Same with the crib. You want something that you can convert into a bed for when he/she grows out of it.

Bottle warmer.

Bottle disinfector

Bottles that are curved? They are easier to hold then the straight bottles.

Might want to get a light fixture that you can hook up to Google home or alexa to make it easier when you have your hands full or at least the light bulbs if the light fixture isnt already designed for it.

Same with other things like the bottle warmer and lamps...have them either plugged into a smart plug or if they already have those that can hook up. Damn I would have loved those when my nieces and nephews were babies.

I believe they have a system called "nest" that has all that stuff.

Ummm.... most of the stuff is going to end up on the floor lmao but if you can keep it organized all the power to you. I noticed with my sisters they had all that stuff for the first kid but by the time the 2nd baby came they didnt bother organizing.

A stroller that converts into a car seat and then later converts into a stroller for a bigger baby.

A good baby bag that has a changing mat with it and pockets and room to keep all your essentials while you are away from home.

A pop up play pin that you can fold easily and carry in your baby bag for on the go or when your visiting family and friends. Will be ideal for nap time on the go.

Start collecting baby wipes. Diapers of all sizes. Most ppl give you diapers for new borns but after that you are on your own. Diaper rash cream(always good to have around even after they are out of diapers)

A rocking chair is not neutral. The consistant motion is calming to the baby after a while and eventually the parent.

Even when you BOTH get older the effect will remain the same :-)

I want a neutral coloured rocking chair that isn’t gender specific.

May mistake. Thought you meant it as in necessity/desire😁
