A lot of these celebs married because it gave them a wholesome image, and their higher ups made bank on that image. Twas the times- people as a whole probably could not handle scandals as much. if a woman survives, survives rape and torture, abuse, and she's doing well in life, people don't believe that she went through that cause she looks so strong...

Movie executives used opportunities to control and manipulate them. The casting couch and sleeping your way to the top were real things. This line was said about Marilyn Monroe from one Exec in the business at the time. 'She was so dumb that she didn't know that she didnt have to sleep with the screenwriter.' Being workaholics who often had very little time outside of Hollywood, Execs often married or had serious relationships with these former call girls. So they seem to be doomed to failure when you factor in money, access, and options.
