Everyone has a different standard I feel. If you deem someone as "high maintenance", you're not meant to be together. What seems high maintenance to you, will seem normal to someone else and to the person in question. They could also be in a transformative process of having to realise what their true priorities in life are right now too, maybe they don't have awareness of this yet but it could hit them at any time.
What they could prioritise now, might not be the same later. I can definitely say that for myself since working on myself since mid 2020 everyday.
It also depends on what your definition of high maintenance is too. Like I said, everyone has different standards. If someone doesn't want a lover who doesn't have ambition for anything or have any goals, that's valid. They are allowed to hold that as their value and again, that could change as they mature as a person. Any standard can change for anybody. And to someone else, having no ambition is no problem for them because maybe they're just looking for a fling with this person and they might see the person who doesn't like having no ambition as "having too high of a standard". No one's standard is invalid. But positive standards that help you be your best version of yourself are definitely the recommended if you want the best life for yourself and with someone you love as you can help each other be your best versions. But again, it all depends on what you value during your current state of life.
A busy career person could be seen as high maintenance and not chill, but they could just really love their career and in the long run, they're probably trying to build a stable legacy for themselves and future families. It's all about perspective ya know 🙂 I know this is not really answering your question, but I wanted to offer a different perspective aha

If you can't accept each other for who you fully are (not the reluctant tolerating kind, but the healthy loving kind) then you're not meant to be together. Because if you did accept them, you wouldn't think about them being high, low or whatever maintenance. You love them for who they are and see them as valid, flaws and all. If you see their flaw as a problem, a red flag, a deal breaker to your interaction and bond with them, that's already a sign to let each other go. Especially whenever you think about them, you just immediately think about their flaws and start festering negative emotions in yourself and projecting onto them, then let each other go. Healthy loving relationships collaborate and work with each other and understand each other's limits and flaws without belittling them whilst helping them be the best version of themselves and yourself and keep transforming and improving.
Another example is I'm a huge fashionista. I love fashion a lot, so it means I don't want to leave home without knowing I did my best to dress up, feel good and confident about myself. This is one of the main ways I show up for myself. But to my Capricorn classmate, he thinks I put way too much effort into how I look just to turn up to Uni. Back then, I actually took that to heart and got a bit insecure and started comparing what I wear vs others in Uni because I know Uni wear is generally chill whatever vibes. But that's just not me. I've always just stood out anyway. My Libra placements, especially Venus and Mercury just won't allow me to feel like I didn't put any effort into how I look. And now that I have built a stronger confidence and love for myself, I went "f*ck it, I don't dress for anyone but me, I love the way I put effort into how I dress because I love fashion so much. I notice a ton of single Leo men including myself who live alone and rather do crazy shit. Stuff like ride a bike across the country just for the experience. Or go way out into the woods just to make a fire and cook some venison, or beef, or whatever the fuck have you just to do it, and most importantly, to post it on social media. I can only imagine the amount of drive a mate would need to possess for that kind of personality.

my leo guy friend is very low maintenance
virgo moons seem very low maintenance
Pisces and Virgo have been the most high maintenance I’ve experienced so far, hands down too. I sort of respect it in a way, but all the same can’t deal with it lol. I just don’t have the energy for it, very draining types for me to be around. And I just don’t need or want all that lol.

So I guess I consider high maintenance to be people who need me to be communicating with them 24/7 and giving emotional affirmation constantly. Scorpios are too much, but having a conversation with a cancer man was entertaining. So he randomly asked me what my birthday was and he didn't bring up astro so he must be a beginner, too shy to let people know he's into that shit. But the more he kept talking to me, the more intense it got. In so many round about ways he asked me about my entire life story and I just met the dude. Asking me if I was single in round about ways. It was just one after the other and I had to think so fast to answer cryptically in order to give nothing away. It made me remember back to when you said he gave you a whole therapy session when you met. They speak very calmly. Soothing energy. yeah they're super chill. i get easily anxious at times so i can't stand being with someone bossy, loud and guys who have a self-proclaimed 'sense of humor.' guys like that talk too much. all they've got is jokes. maybe that's why i prefer bunnies as pets. they're quiet but just as curious as cats and as playful as dogs.

should my father pass away, i feel that nothing will hold me back from breaking family ties. it's too much work to try to please my aunts and an uncle i hate. but most selfish and greedy in my family's always been a capricorn. i blame this person for my dad's health. i'll never say so directly but if this person didn't meddle so much, he wouldn't have been so depressed and ill.
