why is there no sealed lid - someone can just take the lid off and go a lickin' ... and then put the lid back on again - what in tarnation happened to manners - get yourself a bowl and a spoon FFS - if yer gonna have a go at it I'd make it substantial

Blue bell freezing their ice cream to the top of the lid. It is hard to remove the lid when you first open it. Once open, it isn't. Tillamook ice cream does the same.

day'm - the kind I get has a plastic seal around the lid so if you bust the seal you'd have to buy it I guess - I don't buy anything these days that isn't sealed somehow - too many ratchets out there

But your asking the wrong question here. This is happening in Walmarts right. I'd put my money on them being 24hr walmarts. Always have the creme of the crop at those.

A lot of ice cream tubs aren't tightly sealed. There are exceptions where the seal needs to be broken before you open it, but most ice cream containers don't have that.
E.g. Ben & Jerry's ice cream tubs over here are wrapped in stiff plastic so its hard to pry the lids open.
For us over here, the more expensive the brand, the more likely it will have a seal that needs to be broken.

Wouldn't it be funny if it was all a ploy by a competitor to ruin their business. I find it too convenient. Then the competitor ice cream manufacture could make a sales pitch on how there ice cream is safely sealed. They wouldn't even need to go deep into it, or make a fuss about people tempering with it. They could just say "With safety seal to keep it fresh and flavorful."
